601  Other / Meta / Re: New boards on: September 29, 2018, 10:47:25 AM
The reason for altcoin projects leaking in, in Project Development, can be this:

Project Development
Organization of Bitcoin and related projects, bounty campaigns, advertising etc.

The tag under it clearly says that bounty campaigns or advertising stuff can also be placed in here. That would definitely draw some traffic from Altcoins to this board. Maybe that tagline should be modified so that people don't post projects that are not involving Bitcoin in any way since the board is in Bitcoin sub-forum. And users can report threads for being off-board so that mods can move them to where they belong.

Bitcoin discussion is always going to get spammed with altcoin related topics because its the first board people see. I don't really have a solution for that.

It doesn't require any solution since Altcoin sub-forum has its own discussion board named Altcoin Discussion. Any topics related to altcoins posted in Bitcoin Discussion should be reported immediately and would get moved (if useful) or trashed as soon as a mod checks the report.

Technical support is kind of a niche board that could touch upon some of the more technical sides of altcoins.

That's true. Having a separate board for Altcoin technical support would help categorize the technical stuff between Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I know that theres so many altcoins to discuss but popular ones could maybe have their own boards too.

That doesn't seem to be a necessity to me. Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin should only be discussed in Altcoins sub-forum since they are all alternative cryptocurrencies, no matter how popular they are. It is not only one or two altcoins that are popular, but they are many, and providing different boards for each one of them would mean a lot more moderation and even more open space for spammers. The forum already lacks moderation in some existing boards, and adding more to them would only make it worse.
602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A big movement by a Big exchange in INDIA on: September 28, 2018, 05:12:12 PM
i would like to ask all of your opinion that what you are thinking about the cryptocurrency future in India and your own country.

A person who loves a thing and uses it in his daily life would never think negative about how it would/could be in the future, even if the situations are against his thoughts. That is exactly what happens with cryptocurrency users. Even if the market is totally red, the countries are banning/regulating cryptocurrencies, people are abusing them to be evil, but if you ask someone who had been using them, he would say, "It is just a bad time right now. The future would bring something new and all this will finish soon." That is exactly what I would say, though it is not about what we say, but it is all about what the governments think, but why be negative?

the government has to accept Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies in order to survive in the world

I don't really think that's true. Banks and governments would never need to accept cryptocurrencies in order to survive, but the cryptocurrencies would require adoption in order to survive in the long run.

Bank's cannot fulfill our needs anymore

Maybe, but that is not what every single person says in the world, and it would only make a difference if everyone has the same thought about them (The Banks).

604  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 28, 2018, 08:16:01 AM
It should have been done a long time ago, but why isn't it as easy as choosing a merit source?

I said that because I think that being a moderator is quite a bigger responsibility than being a Merit Source, since a Merit Source is only responsible to choose the posts that he thinks are of quality, but a mod has to decide if a person or a post needs to remain or to go. But of course as you said, theymos has all the stats and there are already a lot of trusted users who are ready to dedicate their time to this cause. So it should not be difficult for him to choose some hard working mods around here.
The reporters would absolutely lose hope if there is no manual patrolling going on in boards like Bitcoin Discussion or Altcoin Discussion etc. where if you report one post, meanwhile, 10 more posts are submitted.
605  Other / Meta / Re: So I've Become a Merit Source... Need Some Advice on: September 28, 2018, 05:52:54 AM
That best way to support Newbie on this forum, i think one merit is good choice, because too much merits will make more user do spam and shitpost  Grin

I see you have no Merits, but I still find you spamming and shitposting in about every single thread that provides you the opportunity to do so. So, what about no Merits for the likes of you, who are desperately looking for this 'One' Merit these days so that they can continue to do what the new changes are supposed to stop?

Its the mentality or the quality within a person that doesn't let him write useless things somewhere. The amount of appreciation he gets would make no difference in that, in any way. So it is not giving less Merits that can stop the spam, but it is giving them to the right people that would do it in the long run.
606  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: September 28, 2018, 05:39:11 AM
It is a long trip to go. Anyone know a better and quicker way?

Yep! The "LOGOUT" button at the right side of the navigation menu below announcement section.
There is no way you are going to make it to a higher rank with what you are doing right now. So, you either don't take the forum for granted, or click that button for good. It's your choice.
607  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 28, 2018, 05:29:15 AM
I hope theymos will implement some new mods soon. Bitcoin Discussion is only going to get worse the longer it doesn't have a couple of dedicated caretakers looking after the place.

He should have already done it along with the selection of Merit Sources he announced recently with the new changes. I know it is not as easy to choose a mod as it is to choose a Merit Source, but today or tomorrow, it needs to be done. The forum in current situation needs patrolling more than Merit distribution which is also for the betterment of the community. Bitcoin Discussion and Beginners & Help would definitely require more care right now or they will go even deeper in this shit.
608  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ♻️ Demoted newbie ! Don't be upset, see guidelines to get 1 merit and rank up.✔ on: September 27, 2018, 03:24:35 PM
Note: If you are a good poster and you are worried about limitation of newbie and signature campaign there is option for you;
Many of these limitations can be eliminated with a copper membership. In particular, you can set a signature at Member level if you wear a copper membership.

I highly discourage suggesting Newbies to buy Copper Membership for the sake of wearing Member signatures and participate in Signature/Bounty Campaigns. The primary purpose of Copper Membership was to enable lower rank users to post images and reduce their PM or posting time intervals, but the recent changes have changed the usage of it, and people, who can afford to buy it, are using it to wear signatures of the ranks higher than them and post crap everywhere to earn a few bucks every week. If a user is a good poster, he should simply use that power and earn a few Merits to rank up manually and then do whatever they want. They should not need to buy Copper Membership for anything like that.
609  Other / Meta / Re: Blaming merit source by newbie doesn't make sense. on: September 27, 2018, 02:12:35 PM
The ones who blame the system are the ones who know they can't surpass the restrictions put by it. You will never find a Newbie complaining about the system if they know at least something about the forum or anything that they can share with the people without any plagiarism, post-spinning or something like that.
And, I don't really understand why people think they need to search for good Newbies to Merit them. It is not like there are only a few people who have Merits to give out, and the genuine users would get none even if they make some efforts. Every single board has at least some people who have sMerits with them, and if they find a Newbie who is worth giving some, they would do it. We should simply do what we usually do; surf and read the threads that we like, and simply Merit the ones we see there who deserve it, by not only aiming to Merit Newbies. The ones who deserve to get going would eventually pop out from the crowd and won't need finding. That's what I think.

@OP, may I give you an advice? I wish you don't mind this, but you should probably practice your English a bit more. Since you are a good poster and you will need to continue that, you should probably learn the grammar which is not that difficult if you dedicate some time to it. It is not that your writing is not understandable, but I think it would look much more convincing for the readers if your sentence construction is a little bit more precise.
I hope you take this positively.

Regards.
610  Other / Meta / Re: Most annoying word of forum on: September 27, 2018, 01:44:23 PM
"Merit". Mostly when it is used by someone who doesn't even know what it is and what is the fundamental function of it, and, specially when it is used in the title of a thread which indicates there is nothing good to read inside, but I still read it, I don't know why.  Grin
Meta and Beginners & Help have most of them in the recent times.

Other than that, the word "shit" also annoys me a lot of times when non-English speakers use it more than often and in totally inappropriate manners. If someone doesn't know when to use a word, they shouldn't do it. They might have a feeling that using these words make your writing better, but that's not right. It rather makes it more frustrating if you are not using the words in the correct way.
611  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism is on the rise - be vigilant. on: September 26, 2018, 05:27:29 PM
all my post and replies not copy-and-paste jobs but i just have only one Merit  Sad i wondering how Bitcointalk determine a post is quality post  Sad
You're not the only one, there are many great quality posters with 0 merits and that is why the system is broken to a certain extent.

The guy has a complete history of utterly useless and none-required one liners which are not even worth reading, Meriting is a very big thing even to think about them. I don't see any fault of the system in that case, though there can be a lot of quality posts that are missed and are not Merited, but in that particular case, it's not the system that is serving injustice, but it is himself who is not honest enough to the forum to get the respect he asks for from it.
612  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a local thread? on: September 26, 2018, 05:10:38 PM
It's not allowed not to create a new thread in other languages section, at least I can't see.

As far as I know, a user only with a rank of Sr. member or above can start new threads in that section. I also can't see that option nor does OP, since we are still Full members and we don't have the permission to do that.

@OP,
There are only two ways to achieve this. You should either ask someone in a higher rank to create the topic for you, but in that case, you won't have the self-moderation to yourself. Or, you should just PM both theymos and Cyrus and wait for a response from any of them.
613  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I received a job offer - is this legit? on: September 26, 2018, 04:53:26 PM
There is no way the guy can scam the OP since he is putting his own money on risk and isn't asking OP to put any of his money into the business. The thing is, the other guy might be transferring the money from an illegal source and doesn't want himself to get tracked for its usage and that is the reason why he offered a guy, completely inexperienced and never known to him, the job so that he gets the business going but no harm should come to him in case something goes wrong.
614  Other / Meta / Re: So I've Become a Merit Source... Need Some Advice on: September 26, 2018, 03:19:50 PM
Ideally, you should be looking for good posts, but not only good posts from lower ranks, but if that is what you want to do, it is your choice.
Since you would surely need some time checking the qualities of the posts you are going to Merit, so that you don't Merit posts of pure plagiarism or even the spinned ones, so maybe being a little more active would make you a better source for the community.
Just avoid looking for posts in boards like Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion, Economics to save your time since even though it is possible to find some in them but it would definitely consume less time to find some in other sections.
615  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think that ICO's nowadays are becoming very superficial? on: September 26, 2018, 02:19:55 PM
Services section is only for services that either offer something to do or ask others to do something for them by paying money. It is not a place to discuss anything.
You need to move your topic to Altcoin Discussion since you are discussing ICOs and they belong to altcoins.
In future, make sure where the thread belongs before posting it.
616  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 25, 2018, 07:49:51 PM
what do you mean by self-moderated thread though? Do you mean like the other suggested, that if a user saw a post that seemed spam or of low quality, to report it right away?

No. A self-moderated thread means that the creator of that thread is himself the moderator of it, meaning he doesn't need to report anything to a forum moderator, but instead, he can delete them himself and keep the discussion clean.

this forum loses 11% visitors per months,

so be paitient, as soon as the world doesnt care about bitcoin anymore you will be rid of the spammers as well

I don't know what you are talking about, since the population of this forum as well as Bitcoin users database are increasing rapidly. A percentage subtracted does not count when a percentage added is bigger than it.
617  Other / Meta / Re: Getting merited on post made on local board on: September 25, 2018, 07:23:09 PM
The reason why Merit circulation in English boards is more is because there are more people in these boards. But I believe local boards have their Merit Sources too, who are constantly meriting posts that are worthy. And those boards with more population and much better posting qualities would probably have more Merits in circulation, i.e English boards.

No learning all languages is not possible but like facebook there is a translator app that allows post to be translated I know this is a very difficult addition but it can be achieved first by spreading the needs for great post to be understood and every one can learn

What exactly are you proposing? Are you suggesting that we all learn the languages of the world, specifically to search for more posts to merit?

Now I'm curious to know if to which board you belong, because what you did here can be a reason why your board lack Merits in circulation.
618  Other / Meta / Re: List of demoted Jr. Members who were ranked up again on: September 25, 2018, 04:41:37 PM
Unfortunately, the underline ("<u>username</u>") doesn't work within a link, while it works in BBCode. If you know how to fix this, please tell me Smiley

Are you talking about the HTML? If yes, then you can do that by simply removing underlines of all anchor elements (links) in CSS by using " * a { text-decoration: none; } " and then putting all the usernames in span tags and then assigning underline to them by using  " span { text-decoration: underline; } ".

Example:

Code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>

<head>
<title>Underline</title>

<style>
* a {
text-decoration: none;
}

span {
text-decoration: underline;
}
</style>

</head>

<body>

<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/">Bitcointalk is the best <span>forum</span> on the internet.</a><br/>
<a href="https://bitcointalk.org/">Satoshi is the <span>founder</span> of Bitcoin.</a>

</body>

</html>

Copy this code, paste it in a text editor and save it as a .html file and then run it. You will see the result.

Sorry if this was not what you were asking for.

Thanks, this works.

No worries. Glad to be able to help. Smiley
619  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Does the world have electronic money banks? on: September 25, 2018, 11:30:17 AM
You can consider wallets to be electronic banks as they are used to store digital currencies like Bitcoin which don't have any existence outside Internet. The only differences that a wallet has from a bank is that a wallet is decentralized while a bank isn't, and they don't generate profit in the name of interest for you.
620  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 24, 2018, 08:02:11 PM
~

The new changes have undoubtedly made a difference for the forum, but as you said, and many others have been saying, a requirement of more than 5 Merits to make the signatures available would have made the difference much more bigger than this. But, as they say, something is better than nothing.

you can filter and set some banned words to prevent spammers from commenting.

Filtered words won't prevent spammers from spamming, since they can always use different words if they come to know what words are being filtered. And it is not possible to stop this by filters since the words they use to spam are the words other users also use to post, so it won't just stop the spammers from posting but it would not allow others to use the same words as well. That solution won't work in this case.

Or perhaps a moderated new topic and/or comments? It will surely take a lot of work but maybe it will alleviate the spam in the discussion board.

That is what I suggested here, if you read the OP, you would have known. I asked people to create self-moderated threads in Bitcoin Discussion board to keep the spirit alive, and don't just let the spammers take over the board. A self-moderated thread can do good since the creator can easily remove useless comments and keep the discussion clean all the time.
