221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: why ETH is getting down? on: March 03, 2018, 04:14:40 PM
I don't think ethereum has significantly gone down in the past few days. It might have dropped a little bit but it is pretty fine, doesn't look that bad. Also even if there is a little bit of price drop, it would mostly be a short term thing,  so there is no reason to worry. Ethereum is a pretty stable coin and good for long term investments, these short drops should not affect, keep holding.
222  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices are rising. on: March 03, 2018, 02:31:01 AM
I don't think selling now would be a wise decision as bitcoin's price has just started to recover and it has a long way to go. If you do sell your bitcoins and wait for the price to drop again you'll be wasting a lot of time as it might rise above 20k usd. You'll still be getting profit, but you'll miss out alot of profit and then later regret it.
223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vending Machine on: March 02, 2018, 07:18:17 PM
It might not be a good idea as of now because when there is a lot of traffic it causes a lot of congestion which ultimately leads to very long confirmation times as well as very high fees. So if a person would like to use a bitcoin vending machine during such times he/she would have to pay far more than the actual price of the product.
224  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Any idea for poor people? on: March 02, 2018, 04:15:01 PM
Sure, make 'em more literate so their spam will at least make sense.  Eh, no.  Poor people have a lot more problems going on than just illiteracy, though that is still an issue.

Bitcoin wasn't meant to solve problems like poverty, nor was bitcointalk, though I constantly hear people talking as if finding a "job" on this forum is the answer to all prayers.

Poor people need to stop reproducing, that's one thing.  They need to be educated about condoms and so forth.  Bringing a child into a world of deprivation is cruel.  Can't sterilize them anymore, but you can hand out rubbers.

Then there's the rampant substance abuse problem, then there's illiteracy and everything else.  Crypto doesn't help any of that.
Exactly, bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies don't have much to do with helping the poor people. The main problem for the poor is overpopulation. I personally live in India and the poor people here have don't have a sense of family planning and their numbers just keep on multiplying. They need to be educated about this matter as it is pretty important. If they can't earn a living for themselves how are they supposed to take care of a family?..
Apart from educating them about this situation we can donate some of our money to charity, I think that is all we can do.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FAKE ICOs Bounties. What to do? on: March 02, 2018, 02:42:25 PM
Well, it has surely become hard to identify which ones of the bounty campaigns are legit and which ones are scams. You can try asking the people here on the forum about their opinions on the specific bounty campaign you're looking out for. You can try visiting the project's website and read the details, community reviews, etc. You can't be 100% accurate but you can minimize the chance of getting scammed by doing these things.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Invest or bounty? on: March 02, 2018, 02:31:31 PM
Well, it depends. If you have some free time which you would like to use constructively and you are interested in a specific ICO which looks good and also you're running a little short on funds you can try joining the bounty campaigns. If you have enough of extra money for investment, you can try investing it in an ICO.
227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In Germany, bitcoin was recognized as legal tender on: March 02, 2018, 01:47:27 PM
This is excellent news, and will probably lead to a spike in the value of bitcoin. You cannot ban legal tender, as it is now a recognized form of money.

If we can get a few more headlines like this, Bitcoin will take off again, and potentially become accepted elsewhere when other countries follow suit.
That is true. This might lead to a sharp increase in the price of bitcoins. This might be a good start as bitcoins became a legal tender in Germany, others country might follow as well. Some of the goods/services over the world have started accepting bitcoins as a method of payment and I think now their number will increase.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Joining ICO or Participating Bounties and Airdrop?? on: March 02, 2018, 08:30:42 AM
Well participating in bounties and airdrop would definitely be cheaper than investing your money in an ICO. But it might not be as profitable as investing in ICOs. If you have a good amount of extra money which you can afford to lose you can try investing in some of the good ICOs, but if you don't have enough money, it would be better to participate in bounties because you can't get much profit from little amount of money and there would be a possibility that you might even lose your money, so investing small amounts in ICOs won't be advisable.
229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons Why We Should Love Bitcoin on: March 01, 2018, 04:29:29 PM
Well there are a lot of people in this world and there would be many of them who would never agree with us, because of various reasons. Some people would be just lazy and won't feel the need to learn newer things. There might be a lot of people who won't like to invest as it might be risky. A lot of people might have actually gotten manipulated due to the negative showcase of bitcoins done by the media.
I personally think of bitcoin as a great investment option, as whenever it drops it always recovers and reaches newer heights. The only people losing their money due to bitcoins would be the panic sellers.
230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do We Need Social Media Promotion on: March 01, 2018, 06:38:57 AM
Yes, social media is a necessity for advertising anything now a days. Most of the people are very active on social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, reddit, etc. So, if social media promotion is done, bitcoin will surely gain a lot more publicity, which would result in a better growth and it would be more profitable to everyone who has invested in bitcoins.
But the problem about social media is that the number of false, fake, half-true news, rumors are increasing. Which might be due to jelousy of not being able to invest or various other reaons. Also, there are a lot of people who would blindly believe these rumors. So it has some good points as well as some bad points.
231  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India taking measures to control crypto on: February 28, 2018, 09:14:34 PM
This information is not true and it was spread by the "out of news" media, news channels in India show this kind of half-true stuff regularly and you shouldn't blindly believe it. You should've done a little bit more of reasearch. The finance minister of India said that bitcoin, along with other cryotos is not a legal tender and they would most probably be imposing taxes.
232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to explain BitCoin to someone who is not tech-savvy? on: February 28, 2018, 04:27:48 PM
Best idea would be to find a good basic explanation on youtube and send them the link.

I'm sure there should be a few good non-technical videos on Youtube
Yeah, I think there might be a lot of such non-technical explanation videos about bitcoins on youtube. You should try those out. Even if the person doesn't have much knowledge about technology but, still know some important things about finance, economy, market,  he/she would be able to understand what bitcoin basically is. So you can explain it in 'non-technical' terms. It is simply an investment method which is pretty effective if you want to increase your money. But as some other profitable investments, even this has a little risk as the market can crash.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I want a long term investment what s the best choice for now? on: February 28, 2018, 03:52:54 PM
I personally think Ethereum with it's slow and steady rate of increase in value is very suitable for long term investments. You can try out different coins which are among the top 10-20 coins as they are the ones worth investing in. Even bitcoin would be a very good long term investment as it's price is on the lower side now, so you can try investing in it as well.
First I must commend you for seeking out long investment. Many people fail to see the great potential in holding and keeping your coin watching them becoming very valuable in the course of time. This strategy has worked for several people in cryptocurrency and it will work for anyone who dare to toll that path. I will recommend you invest in ethereum..
Yes that is true, so just keep holding your coins and don't bother the price drops as it would eventually go up again.
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: For how long will bitcoin exist on: February 28, 2018, 02:59:10 PM
This question indeed is pretty unpredictable. Bitcoin is still becoming more and more popular day by day and if this continues, the number of people using cryptos will keep increasing. It might be used as a common payment method soon, as some already started using it in such a way. So, I think bitcoin might never cease to exist unless it gets illegal/banned in alot of countries.
235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hold out or sell Bitcoin? on: February 28, 2018, 10:12:19 AM
With the price starting to creep up again do you think it's a good time to start selling some of my investments or do you think it's worth holding on for a while longer?

We all know how temperamental the market can be but do you think this is just a short term spike?
No, I don't think 'short-term spike' would be a good word to describe the state of bitcoin's value currently.  If you see the bitcoin's price graphs of over the past few years, you will see that whenever it's price has gone down, after some time it always has recovered and crossed the previous milestone.
So, I think hodling will be the best option.
236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Philippines is starting to accept bitcoin. on: February 28, 2018, 10:04:49 AM
Our country just recently held a seminar introducing bitcoin in our country. The said seminar were facilitated
by bitcoin experts and government officials in pursuit of using bitcoin as another form of payment and regulation of it as well.

http://www.wheninmanila.com/5-things-i-learned-about-bitcoin-and-cryptocurrency/
Well, I think that is a pretty good news and it is a good sign which shows that bitcoin will be used more in time. I think this might encourage other countries to accept bitcoins as payment for services, goods which would be very helpful for the people who are interested in cryptocurrencies. More number of countries need to legalize cryptocurrencies and as  Philippines gave it a good start, this might keep increasing.
I can imagine a situation where people are using cruptocurrencies (mainly bitcoins) frequently as a payment method in future.

238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: do you day trade or prefer a long term hold? on: February 23, 2018, 03:17:56 PM
I think holding would be a better idea if you are busy with your job, etc. and don't have much time for doing cryptocurrency trading. Long term investments in good coins such as bitcoins/ethereum can be profitable as well as less time consuming. If you want to do day trading, make sure you are:-
1. Having enough time for checking the crypto market regularly for looking at the prices, etc.
2. Have enough knowledge about cryptocurrencies as it is essential for doing crypticurrency trading.
3.  Having some extra money which you can afford to lose as trading might have a little bit of risk as the market might crash.
Personally I would prefer long term investments as I don't always have a alot of free time, I don't like to take any risks and I am a bit lazy as well. Tongue
239  Economy / Speculation / Re: Experts: Investing in Bitcoin now? on: February 23, 2018, 10:58:05 AM
Would it be a smart move? i know no one "knows" but what do you think? I'm thinking long term, 5 years.

Appreciate all the advice.
I think you should go for it. Bitcoin never ceases to amaze us as it always gets back after a price drop. You can also check out it's price graph from around 4-5 years ago till now. Also you can see that it has already started to go up, it reached 10,000 USD a few days ago and then it dropped a little bit, but I don't think it would be much of a problem as it started to increase again.
So, I would suggest you to invest it for a long term. What most of the good investors do is invest while the market is red, i.e. when the price is alot lower than what it usually is.
240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Effect Of BitCoin Fees Dropping Significantly on: February 23, 2018, 04:10:33 AM
Not sure how many people noticed but the cost of sending BitCoin has dropped significantly of late. One of the biggest complaints about BitCoin vs altcoins is the speed in the cost. Lightning is supposed to solve the speed issue and it appears that the cost issue isn't so much of a problem these days.

The average cost was about $26 but now it's down to about $3.

My question is what effect do you think this will have on altcoins? In my view, this makes BitCoin more attractive. And secondly, does anyone believe this is a long-term change (the drop in price) or is this merely temporary?
Yeah, the fees has surely dropped alot, which might make bitcoin more attractive and invite more number of investors. But, the fees might go high again in the times of high traffic. I saw the fees went down a few days ago when bitcoin's price had become a bit more stable and had stopped dropping down further, but as soon as it dropped a little bit more the fees were high again. So, I think this might be a temporary thing as there is not much of a traffic.
And secondly, does anyone believe this is a long-term change (the drop in price) or is this merely temporary?
It's temporary. It may last for long, even several months but it's always temporary. If we see another bull. Run to $20k the transactions will increase along with that, and mempool will become congested again. Right now there are very few transactions compared to what it was 1-2 months ago. This is the primary reason for the drop in fees, while yes segwit helped a lot but still segwit adoption is way too less.
Exactly, if bitcoins go as high as 20k USD again, definitely alot of transactions would be made and it would cause congestion, which would result in higher fees again.
