I have had some very good experiences with EVGA cards/warranties. EVGA use to sell lifetime warranties. I returned a card for repair that had a lifetime warranty and the replacement is still going strong. I tend to hold on to video cards for a long time. I have three GTX 970's. Two I bought from craigslist. One had major issues and could not mine at all. Turns out, it was still under warranty and I got a replacement from EVGA in 3 days! I have bought extended warranties on all my EVGA video cards and have used those warranties three times with great results. I highly recommend EVGA.
How much did you purchase lifetime warranties for? I imagine many would sink some cash into a 1080 TI lifetime warranty lol

There now may be a delay on the larger FPGA The BCU-1525 I do not know how it affects the Acorn 215+ or another gear made by squirrels. Note: I read the issue was a specialty cap on the discord channel. For tinfoil hat people I think Xilink has a major contract/relationship with you guessed it bitmain {not sure} I guess if bitmain squeezed the supply chain here it means they thought this was good gear and are attacking them but thats a tinfoil hat theory. Does not matter why the gear is held up only that it is held up. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ BCU-1525 delayed. I am wondering what would happen to Acorn release schedule
BCU-1525 delayed. I am wondering what would happen to Acorn release schedule
The BCU was delayed by Xilinx who makes both the FPGAs and the board that is the BCU1525. Xilinx is delayed due to unavailability of other components used to make the BCU, not the actual FPGA itself. SQRL is facilitating the BCU orders, if I understand correctly, not making the boards. Any project could be delayed if they needed the same components that Xilinx is waiting for, Acorn included. Supply chain stuff is complicated, and most companies try to have multiple suppliers for most components to prevent this from happening. Sometimes there is only one supplier for a critical component, and that supplier has a problem, well, you are SOL. It's also not usually easy to get a new supplier online in a short period of time, especially if high volumes of components are needed. Not to mention those suppliers also have existing customers with contracts... BCU-1525 delayed. I am wondering what would happen to Acorn release schedule
My guess is that it will get delayed too. A common delay cause is chip fabrication, which is shared amongst various manufacturers. Once again, what really bothers me is that (regardless of what GPUHoarder suggested), I am not getting any responses to my questions from SQRL support. It is one thing to have some very smart people designing new system and the other (often neglected in Crypto world) providing a support structure of a company that deals with customers efficiently.
Hey Phil I understand your frustration as most (myself included) are frustrated when pre-order products are delayed, and I definitely understand your concern on only partial stats released w/ the acorns so far However they are trying to bring a unique product, and per what they've said it is ultimately out of their control. What would you suggest they do? Also have you read this yet? A link to their official press release for reference http://squirrelsresearch.com/press-bcu-1525-delivery-delayed

Oh... and philipma1957...
Let me state my position on ASICs definitively...
ASICs are not the enemy of centralization. They are just a more efficient tool. Pools are the enemy of centralization.
If you want a truly decentralized ecosystem, you have to make it anti-pool... not anti-ASIC.
I 2nd this comment. Countless coins have had their profitability destroyed by pools like zpool. Zpool , mining-pool hub, nice-hash drive all towards Btc. If banned and rendered non existent you need an exchange to turn coin to btc. If you want to be private most exchanges prevent this. I can mine ETH on nicehash with a core wallet direct to btc and stay anonymous for years. Same on Zpool. Take the exchange pools out I have to hold the coin I mine . Many don’t want that risk. Many won’t hold 1000 BTG. But they will hold 5 BTC. Asics builders kill coins because they can build more gear then any coin can support. Gpu builders don’t kill coins because gpus are mixed use. Anyone that fails to see dumping every bicycle in the world because motorbikes are faster fails to see the full picture. But. What do I know not much as I see but a piece of the puzzle.
I am for some asics I am for some FPGAs I am for some Gpus I am for some CPUs
To mine various coins and algos
Just as I am for
Bicycles Motorbikes Cars Trucks BusesTo take care of various transportation needs That's an interesting comparison, it is too bad Bitmain is trying to build their buses for every coin/algo currently lol

Been out of the ASIC loop for a while.
A buddy wants to get a quiet (non-loud) ASIC to play around with Cryptos. He will be sleeping in the same room as the ASIC and wants it to make heat and noise but not too much heat and noise.
Only one I Could think of was that Antminer S7-LN that he can hack and add some case fans.
Any other quiet ASICs out there? Similiar to an Antminer S3 in noise?
e3 is the best bet of any recent releases, I actually show its volume / DB on a recent video if you want to send it to him https://youtu.be/nz2vgNnlSJY

GPU mining is totally dead imo. the guys happy with 1$ a day for 1080ti have massive farms or cheap power tech evolution + big money has come in since 2017-2018 everyday users are building million dollar farms, FPGAs+ASIC are everywhere (if you still think ANY algos aren't on FPGAs, they are just being kept quiet AKA profitable)
Evolve, band together, diversify, or die. if you dont have 50+ cards+diversification in trading/asic+FPGAs, your a hobby miner, mining is for the big boys now : /
PoS is the future, we all got too greedy for PoW to work anymore and ETH hasent even finished mining! wait till THAT happens :O GPU miners are toast
Great to see you cjmapope, also thanks for the merit several times recently I think ETH PoW -> PoS transition is the elephant in the room no one wants to really think about / talk about . . I was hoping for the community to come together tighter in this period, however (to me at least) it sort of seems the opposite. Everyone wants and is looking for a savior, but will there be one? The void ETH will leave will be an incredibly massive one to fill . . How would you save mining?

Its not dying, its just very unprofitable due to the competition.
Basically its like a double edged sword.
If Bitcoin and other crypos weren't popular then the price would be lower. However since they are popular alot of people discover this "free money" thing called mining and they end up increasing everyones difficulty.
the free money chasers imo are a drop in the bucket compared to the recent build outs of mining farms (fueled by greed) & ASIC producers To make this clear I don't hate "ASIC MINING" . . simply put all of the current producers are trash -- just analyze Bitmains price gouging tactics, and then they become "good guy bitmain" after their coupon airdrop to just buy more of their junk. . . Bad players can do bad things with a multitude of mining devices, ASICs and (partially) FPGAs are the weapons of choice -- even GPUs to some extent w/ ops. like Genesis Mining

Its not people, there is so much room in crypto for ‘people ‘
its the corporations like bitmain etc that are killing profitablity so harshly, they are also the worst dumpers of crypto tooAgreed Bitmain, and yet some people still cheer for them. Last year I was a bit naive to this part of crypto / mining --- however it was made painfully clear with the D3 and time+time again with their subsequent releases. Is it not odd these manufacturers/miners/resellers (because theyre all of those) release similar miners in a similar time frame -- bitmain/innosilicon/asicminerco all dropping equihash ASICs within 2 months of eachother AT LARGE PRODUCTION SCALE I use the wolf and sheep terminology a lot because I swear so many people are so blind to what is really happening.

If mining is dying than pow coins are dying also. right?
So no, mining is not dead, not at all.
mining is in fact at its current trajectory dying for the "average miner" Dying does not equal dead Mining can "die" and coins still survive, whether it is with low electric farms running on very low earnings (while majority others run at a loss) This video is just my farm update and I share my input on the current state of mining and a story to help illustrate my stance on GPU vs ASIC

Vosk, you need to familiarize yourself with Bettenridge's Law of Headlines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge%27s_law_of_headlines"If the headline asks a question, try answering 'no'. Is This the True Face of Britain's Young? (Sensible reader: No.) Have We Found the Cure for AIDS? (No; or you wouldn't have put the question mark in.) Does This Map Provide the Key for Peace? (Probably not.) A headline with a question mark at the end means, in the vast majority of cases, that the story is tendentious or over-sold. It is often a scare story, or an attempt to elevate some run-of-the-mill piece of reporting into a national controversy and, preferably, a national panic. What is an alternative title you would have chosen for distribution on the YouTube platform?

Is cryptocurrency mining dying? While cryptocurrency remains in a bear market, the profitability of crypto mining continues to decrease. Bitmain has sold over ten ASIC miners in 2018 and only a few models currently create a profit above one dollar a day factoring the average US electric rate of 12c / kWh. Today VoskCoin reviews his mining farm and how it has changed dramatically over the course of the last year, just last year with 30,000 sols the VoskCoin mining farm was earning 1 Zcash every 2 days in comparison to today that would take more than 10 days AND ZCASH IS WORTH LESS NOW?! https://youtu.be/7f8Dx2UaIvYNvidia GTX 1080 TI remains a top mining GPU - http://geni.us/jVL9YAMD Rx570 continue to be a top mining GPU - http://geni.us/f3Sz8VoskCoin August 2017 30,000 Sol ZEC Mining Farm Update https://youtu.be/wUoSfvNPQiECoinbase is planning to add Ethereum Classic - http://bit.ly/2OB6ZOwBitmain Antminer L3+ worthless* on eBay - https://ebay.to/2vaM6S1Bitmain Antminer Official Online Shop - http://bit.ly/2OdEzK8What To Mine ASIC Mining Profit Calculator - http://bit.ly/2v91yyfVoskCoin Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/VoskCoin VoskCoin Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/VoskCoin/ VoskCoin Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/voskcoin/ VoskCoin Discord Server Invite - https://discord.gg/FGGmS2z VoskCoin Twitter - https://twitter.com/VoskCoin VoskCoin Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/voskcoin/

wil your gpu earnings for ethermine.org be with the ascis earnings under dashboard on there website as i type in the ethereum address to find my miners on there site as i can only find my 4 active workers from the gpu's?
thx Steve
If you use the same address for the E3 as you use for your GPU's yes, ethermine's dashboard reports the overall earnings for anything mining to that address and doesn't break it down per worker. It does break down your hashrate by worker but that's the only thing that gets broken down (hashing statistics, not earnings) yeah precisely ^ if you'd like to monitor you E3 closer than that your best bet is to use a different ethereum address

Sapphire is the worst to deal with in my opinion.
I bought a few GPUs second hand, the GPUs blew up a bunch of MOSFETs and I tried to get RMA. They basically need the original receipt and it needs to be you. If the address and names don't match up, they assume it was bought second hand and refuse to RMA.
Gigabyte, Asus and MSI they don't care whether you are the first owner or the 10th owner. The warranty stays with the card kind of like Apple Warranties or Car warranties.
Appreciate your voicing this, a couple others in the comments said some similar stuff. It is pretty surprising with such a widely used and popular --- often deemed the best card for mining . . to have such more RMA service makes you realize why some people loaded their farms with MSI instead!
|
|
|
Unless you registered the card, this worry is null and void. They have no way of knowing who purchased it originally and they dont ask for proof of purchase while a product is in warranty.
Straight from the Asus RMA form:
Instant RMA will be provided for ASUS products that are In-Warranty and are manufactured in the North America region (United States and Canada only). If your product is outside the manufacturer warranty term, you may still complete the web form, but you must upload a copy of your proof of purchase for warranty validation and you will receive a Case#.
ONLY if you product is OUTSIDE of the mfg warranty you have to provide proof....
many people in the comment section of the video would disagree with you, I can't say as I have never dealt personally w/ ASUS and their RMA
