So can somebody explain to me, how come that the bets kept on flowing even with the domain down (that's a fact, right?)? DNS caching? Are there alternative routes to using this service besides satoshidice.com?

When you bet on satoshi dice, you simply send your bet to a selection of fixed btc addresses (depending on the odds you want). If the domain goes down, it doesn't affect the btc addresses or the site itself. I'd assume seasoned gamblers have the addresses stored in their client address book. Blockchain.info is another way to use the service.

What is there to understand? don't you send a bet to a Bitcoin address? the betting system relies on Bitcoin network only. The satoshidice.com frontend website serves only to see some stats and to copy down the betting address, which is also available elsewhere like blockchain.info

Without the CEO watching over it is possible that one day someone figures out how to beat the game and bankrupt the company. I think we are not heading the right way with the domain being in a questionable state, gentlemen...

Hopefully most of the company bankroll is offline and so if the 'hot wallet' ran out of funds some kind of manual intervention would be required to refill it.  That doesn't guarantee that anyone would notice that something bad was going on, but it should give them pause for thought.

What is there to understand? don't you send a bet to a Bitcoin address? the betting system relies on Bitcoin network only. The satoshidice.com frontend website serves only to see some stats and to copy down the betting address, which is also available elsewhere like blockchain.info

Right, so your explanation is that people typically write down their favorite Bitcoin addresses and monitor the blockchain for the outcome. I would have expected S.DICE was a more mainstream thing for impulse gamblers,
as in find satoshidice.com, buy bitcoins, bet them, repeat.

But you won't get any new users and with the influx of new accounts being opened at all exchanges (mtgox, bitstamp etc) it would be great if the website was up and running !

And Voorhees coming here to explain what is happening wouldn't be too much to ask. He created this thread to get investors, so please keep them updated through this same thread....

But what we are saying is that once you find satoshidice.com and bet, the address is saved in your client and you can keep doing the repeat part without going back to the website.

The website isn't really anything but an advertisement for the game.  The game itself isn't on the web, it's on the bitcoin network.

I'm still unable to access the website ( I don't however gamble on it) ..But I'm becoming increasingly infuriated with the total mis managment of it, once again having a seriously negative effect on the shareprice.

Still no word from the owner/s. Still no obvious developments with the site (despite there being  some allegedly very hard, undercover work that for some undisclosed reason needs to be kept low in profile...So much bullshit)

And to add further insult the flat 100btc maintance fee/month... That's the most absurd payment scheme heard of! We all know Bitcoin is in its infancy right now and while it has a definite ground of $0/btc we have no idea of the roof...If this really is a contract signed for that amount this make S.Dice essentially worthless. It allows no grow space for the btc ecconomy for SD to keep up with...As a member posted earlier..If the price does go up enough $100 btc could be the sites total monthly income (It could seen as a month of the highest 'spending power' gain ever. If each bitcoin is worth a billion dollars there obviously isn't going to be the same raw bitcoin returns)

I'm appauled at how these last 2 months have been going. Step up your game. Or if you're finished with the game..Let sombody else take the reigns or wrap it up with a fair buyback. But what is being done now...Is far far from an acceptable course of action.

I certainly don't mean to.  It's pretty poor to allow the domain to expire.  Especially when you're paying someone 100 BTC per month to look after the tech side of things.

I was merely trying to explain how bets continued to be placed without the website.

The current ask price on bitfunder is ฿0.0029690 (and bid .0022)...I'd say It usually hangs from .0030-.0038..Just not in the past month.

And honestly dooglus, I really appreciate your presence on this board, Not sure if you are affiliated or employed in some way by SD but i think if any one is deserving of an income from it, that person would be you for your outstanding contributions to the forum in matters of both non emotionally attached reasoning and mediation of ruffled feathers that appear every so often here and the useful service of the in-depth statistical analysis you provide seemingly with no personal agenda in its running. So hats of to you sir.

I just wanted to add that i can connect to the site now, however with no details of betting addresses or any sort of recent, big wins, losses etc...just the pages frame-layout..Is this a issue purely for me or is it more far reaching?

In the beginning I really liked the idea of being on the side of the casino rather than the gambler..but shit, at least a gambler gets to make their own moves..and the consequences or rewards associated with it...All we get as shareholders is the opinion that we should stop trying to fly the plane into the ground..While the pilot has earplugs in.

when a domain is renewal after expiration, it could take up to a week for the entire world to be able to access it, thanks to dns cache. If you can see the site, but bet addresses and counters don't show up, try, http://www.satoshidice.com/Bets.php to test if the mysql on backend still responds. I think, sometimes the site is so slow that the javascript that serially loads all these widgets break in the middle of the way resulting in the no show addresses widget because it's the last in the line.

Not sure if you are affiliated or employed in some way by SD

Long ago I received a modest tip from Erik for some statistical analysis I provided him with.  That's the extent of my affiliation with SD though (other than having spent about 40 BTC on shares which are now worth 28 BTC).  The tip from Erik just about cancels out my loss on the shares (it was back when BTC was cheap).

Hi guys,

I've just submitted a bet that S.DICE will not survive until the next New Year ( http://betsofbitco.in/item?id=1535 ) , thought some of you might also be interested in betting on that.

EDIT: the bet is not available before it gets approved by the admins. I still think it is ethical to post the link right away.

This is a pretty bizarre bet... any reason for you to believe such a thing?

The problem with this is principally that it'd seem more likely for his chosen venue to not survive until the end of the year. After their recent outright scamming who exactly would bet there?

I was looking at the blockchain.info, bets were pouring in like nothing happened,

satoshidice.com is yet another front-end, although it's humungously fuck up, forgetting the renewal.

Government can take the domain down, the service will still live. It is DDOS resistance at no cost.

They should to keep creating front-ends over different channels, like IRC, phone apps, a few new http sites, buy out the clones if any gets traction, make their own wallet apps, basically advertise those 1dice addresses all over, not just satoshidice.com .

I guess the design is so that the website itself is not particularly relevant to the service. Much like the case of MPEx itself. This may emerge as the correct way to build bitcoin services yet.

Not sure if you are affiliated or employed in some way by SD

I think the biggest thing in this entire thread is that we (as a community, I mean) need to find a way to repay people taking the time and putting in the effort to do useful things such as what dooglus does (but more generally too) without it being sponsored by the company itself (which has the problem of creating an affiliation). Any ideas?

Tipping is pretty easy with bitcoins, they just have to publish an address somewhere.

Maybe we should start a thread suggesting people take the time to contemplate how much said person has helped them, and suggesting people give a tip. Sort of a tipping nomination, so it does not look like the person is tooting their own horn.
