Lets pretend we don't know it's a scam and look at the basic math.Total AUR = 7,883,372 From the Wiki: When phase one of the airdrop had completed on July 24, 2014 it was estimated that 1,126,674 AUR had been disbursed among 35,430 claimants. Phase 2 claim was increased to 318 coins. About 5024 claims totalling almost 1.6 million coins were made Phase 3 nearly 1.7 million coins being claimed by more than 2600 Icelanders. By this time the price had fallen so sharply that the payout had increased to 636 coins per recipient Total AUR = 7,883,372 Phase 1 = 1,126,674 (14.3% total supply) Phase 2 = 1,600000 (20.2% total supply) Phase 3 = 1,700000 (21.5% total supply) Foundation +- 1 000000 (12.6% total supply) Total % distributed = 56% to a total of 43054 claimants.5,344,628 was burned a no longer part of the total supply. https://chainz.cryptoid.info/aur/#!rich Wealth Distribution:Top N addresses Holdings Percentage Top 10 2,122,527 AUR 26.92 % Top 100 5,025,521 AUR 63.75 % Top 1000 6,542,710 AUR 82.99 % All 34183 7,883,397 AUR 100 % This should raise some serious eyebrows, I would suggest that 5% made it to real people in Iceland as a best case scenario. To everyone that doubts that there was an airdrop that everyone in Iceland could claime coins, this is a great summary that Skarfur gathered a while back. If you follow the links you can see that the Icelandic media confirmed that everyone could claim. On top of the media coverage +5.000 people of the +30.000 who claimed, joined Auroracoin facebook page and are still listed there waiting for news on the project..

Easy explain. With airdrop was instruction how to send coins to exchange to sell because price was high.

If you take a look at the rich list distribution for Auroracoin you can see that 17k addresses have between 10-100 coins and another 3k have more than 100 coins. These are the ones that claimed and did not sell. 2.7k have between 1-10 and 3.5k have between 0.1-1 and I'm guessing these are the people that sold or tried to sell on Mintpal and Cryptsy. NB. the two largest addresses after the AURburn.. address with ~500k Auroracoin are Cryptsy's and Mintpal's cold wallets, which I believe are lost forever. In total there are ~34K addresses and of course when the airdrop was live some people claimed for their parents, spouses or children so there are addresses that got many claims. In other cases some addresses might have tens or hundreds of claims that can be explained by high school kids collecting airdrops from other kids but usually these kids got paid upfront with cash and someone collected the airdrop with the only purpose of selling for profit. Buying and selling Auroracoin for profit is not strange if you think about it, guess we are all doing it up to a point. There was one case of fraud that Baldur himself (the creator of Auroracoin) told us about and it didn't involve him. This happened late in phase 2 of the airdrop where someone created a Facebook scam that was disguised as a lottery from a Icelandic company, N1. This person got people to give him access to their Facebook page and this person claimed airdrops with it. After this Baldur disabled Facebook to claim airdrop coins. NB, the price had fallen down to today's level after phase 1 but this scammer claimed for perhaps 100-500 people but didn't really get rich from this. https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-auroracoin-addresses.html

Out of the 2600 claims of 638 AUR only 383 addresses have that amount in them. Out of the 5024 claims of 318 AUR only 615 addresses have that amount in them.
Isn't it obvious that people claimed for parents, children or friends. Of course there are not 2600 addresses with 638 coins on them or 5025 with 318 coins on them. Take me for an example, I claimed for myself, my wife, two children to the same address. I then claimed for my parents on another address and my in laws in another address. This way I claimed for 8 people in all three phases of the airdrop but only used 3 addresses and none of them has 638 or 318 coins in them.

Bottom line here, Auroracoin was not created to be perfectly distributed. It has always been an experiment to create a real cryptocurrency economy and to see if and how that would function along with seeing what obstacles would be on the way, be they legal, social, technical or whatever else that might pop up. The only important factor of the airdrop was to reach as many people as possible. Even if you would cut the claim number for the first phase of the airdrop by half or hell let's just go with one third, you still have a higher % of Icelandic people holding Auroracoin than any other nation can say for any cryptocurrency (Bitcoin included).
I love cryptocurrencies and the disruption they can possibly bring to the current cancer of a monetary system that we are forced to live with now. I love the idea that maybe some day I can securely store the value I create for myself and my family and it will not thin out in front of my eyes. When it really dawned on me what potentials are stored in cryptos, I saw for the first time that we as individuals are presented with this amazing opportunity to take the power of decision away from corrupted bank institutes and a government that is either enabling, impotent or indifferent to this biggest threat to our financial security. I do not speak for others here but as far as I'm concerned that is the main reason I have spent more time than I have available on cryptocurrencies for the past two years.
Why I decided to work on and support Auroracoin? I do believe that Iceland is the perfect place to kick start a cryptocurrency economy. It has all the factors. Complete bank crash in 2008 making the public here extremely aware of the fatal flaws of the current monetary system and the corruption within the banks, we have been under capital controls since the crash in 2008 and it has been established by the central bank that the public will not get an exception from the capital controls to buy cryptocurrencies, Iceland has the highest Internet usage in the world and the people here are very technically inclined. So to start a cryptocurrency economy in Iceland you would need to create a cryptocurrency that is either distributed to the Icelandic public or is purchasable in large quantities for ISK. Auroracoin has already been largely distributed to the Icelandic public and more importantly it got massive attention throughout the nation. Regardless if people understood it or not it got attention and people know the name. This is why I believe that Auroracoin has still one of the best opportunities among cryptos to get actual daily use instead of just using it as a token for day trading.

Lack of knowledge about aurora coin is an obstacle to its adoption in Iceland. A bigger obstacle however is peoples lack of knowledge about money creation in generaL. It's only when people learn about how money creation creates poverty through devaluation that crYpto becomes a way out of slavery rather than an intellectual choice for becoming wealthy quickly.

How are people in southern Africa taking to AUR? Have they heard of bitcoin or AUR the first introduction to crypto you give them ? MOST people know about bitcoin here. Max keiser just posted a great interview with a guy in Johannesburg south Africa. https://youtu.be/WxHmUndip_QCatch the interview from 12 minutes Max describes south africa as one of the hottest places for crypto right now. Another stat, 80% of Africa is unbanked. Most importantly, max references people in Iceland at 8 minutes 14 seconds and sayes they will soon take over the financial underworld

We appreciate the enthusiasm of some of the followers here. It is humbling that people would be excited to adopt AUR in places outside of Iceland. However, the team is going to clearly state our goal once again: adoption of Auroracoin in Iceland. We will not endorse any effort to use or promote AUR outside of it’s intended audience. While members like Whistleblower and Adamastor would be a welcome resource here in Iceland, we will not endorse or condone any effort from them to make AUR an economic solution in Africa.

It's possible to add a hardware key like ledger to the wallet?
What do you mean? Do you have an example? Yes, the Mycelium integration of Ledger.* Ledger is a cheap hardware key working with NFC and standard USB ports. This is the NFC example of 2FA wallet integration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndr4POhQntkThese keys can be personalized with the AUR logo and a QR code... *EDIT: I have no personal interest in selling the Leger technology to the AUR DEV's. I'm just aware that mass adoption without strong wallet security is bad, really bad. Someone, someday will exploit a security breach. Hardware 2FA is mandatory.
