@devs

Nice piece of work on the work miners have to carry out once they solve a block. It's actually a rather neat idea. And its something I didn't really know.

Looking forward to the block explorer.

Thanks.

Still exploring it, you can expect an updated more in-depth whitepaper soon.

Blockexplorer is underway.

Is Mr. Spread even still around? Or did he ever end up coming back? Or has this just been a community takeover ever since he disappeared?

We've had no contact from Mr Spread at all since his disappearance.

From memory I think he logged into his BCT account once or twice since he went AWOL but I could be wrong.

There was some speculation that he sold at least some of his coins if not all of them when some addresses that were attributed to him appeared to transfer to Bittrex.  I'm not sure if this is accurate or not.

Please note that georgem's hamster is also called Mr Spread for the avoidance of confusion.

I should add that whilst Mr Spread is no longer with us, his legacy continues.  Georgem seems to be finding a surprise in his code every day at the moment.

I think georgem is planning to post an explanation of some of the things he has discovered in the last few days soon.

In the meantime I'm building a mini network of 20 or so full nodes to be used for our first tentative steps out of testnet in the future.

Maybe Mr. Spread is Satoshi Nakamoto ! The same way to disappear tell us that it is possible ! Since Spreadcoin has a potential, it could be a work of his own, or of one of his disciple Wink !

Lol, its certainly not impossible but I'll consider it unlikely until we hear otherwise Wink

It is clear that Mr Spread had a really clear vision of decentralisation and his approach is fascnating.  That said, I personally think he hit a dead end with his approach hence his stepping back.  Maybe he was hoping that the community would keep it going, maybe not.

Either way, the project is growing stronger and gaining momentum and whilst we tend to keep hype to a minimum and prefer a low profile...exciting times are ahead  Smiley

I hope that some day we'll be back to our historic high price. I remember that some time ago it was really high. My little 405 SPR were worth something more than 4 USD it is now.

It is possible, through the process of Reversed Metamorphosis

From Wikipdia:

Metamorphosis is a biological process by which an animal physically develops after birth or hatching, involving a conspicuous and relatively abrupt change in the animal's body structure through cell growth and differentiation and morph in a human being. The reversed process is called Reversed Metamorphosis and is documented in the case of Mr Spread and the hamster  Cool

Small update.

I made some major steps in the blockexplorer, will not take much longer

Teaser:

also, while exploring the code, I did have an idea...
maybe we can use this as a feature for an upcoming version.

Currently all cryptocoins use automatically generated change addresses for all their transactions.

This often confuses the shit out of people, and can have quite unforseen consequences.

I want to explore what happens when people have more freedom/control and can decide to tell the wallet that it should send the change back to the same address (or one of the inputs)...
so that no change addresses are generated.

There are some interesting remarks in the posts and comments here:

http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/736/how-does-change-work-in-a-bitcoin-transaction

http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/1629/why-does-bitcoin-send-the-change-to-a-different-address

http://bitzuma.com/posts/five-ways-to-lose-money-with-bitcoin-change-addresses/

It's scary how many people have already lost money because of those auto-change addresses...

I think sometime in the near future I'll create a patch that gives the user the power to decide:

Do I want to use automatically generated change addresses or not?

(People will be able to switch auto-generated change addresses on and off, as they see fit.)

This will also allow people to use their paperwallet for a quick payment, without having to fear where the change goes.

but that's just an idea to explore, something that would give people more control about what actually happens during the transaction.

Stay tuned, we'll create a testnet version for this soon ... (not gonna experiment with real SPR here obviously)

Nice idea. Decentralized API

http://cointelegraph.com/news/115510/worlds-first-dapi-decentralized-application-programming-interface

But.......

There should be no reason, that I can think of, why you can't introduce an API for banks to link to the SPR servicenode escrow service.

I tend to agree, there's no operational reason, per se. But that's just one element, there are other important aspects to be considered.

To get an idea of what kind of escrow services are currently provided and who might be expected to use them, see:

That's the fella, an API to cheap, commodity escrow. The concept is proven, the key issue now is whether to focus on the entire market spectrum or develop a tenable niche.

Cheers

Graham

Edit: expanded slightly

So, technically, world's second DAPI

Anyone's guess who'll be first to have one up and running.  Dash are talking about 12 to 18 months I think.  In any case, I think our plans for API are quite different.  I look forward to seeing both solutions.
