When you charge more, you will receive fewer contracts. Still, with the small number of active hosts, I think you could charge close to the max and still get a good number of contracts. Its a bit of an unknown game at the moment. I would experiment with different rates. Change the rate every few days, monitor how many new contracts you're getting and figure out the best (i..e most profitable) rate that way.
There needs to be a way to adjust the price according to the exchange rate. If you want a proper fluid, liquid market that is truely efficient and economical for both renters and hosts, you need a way for the host to automatically follow the bid/asks and tailor the charges to the market. And then one day we can get a derivative/ETF for Sia hosting...

The next Sia thread on here should have "HD FARMING" in the title, that will grab a lot of attention. Smiley

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

This should be quite simple to set-up.

Grab the exchange rate from http://siapulse.com/page/api, and update the host through the Sia API with /host[POST].

Could be implemented as a plugin, or just a shell script.

Checking Out Sia, a Blockchain-based Cloud Data Storage Service
We are continuing our recent look into blockchain-based storage services such as Storj and crypto coins that are mineable with HDD such as Burst with another similar service that is more like Storj and Burst combined into one – the Sia. This project offers users to store files in the cloud using other users’ free disk space and people with free disk space to earn something extra by providing it to the network. Sia uses SiaCoin, a crypto currency token that is used for getting contracts to store your files as well as to get paid for sharing your free disk space...
http://www.cryptocoinupdates.com/checking-out-sia-a-blockchain-based-cloud-data-storage-service/

Tnx for writing this. I left some comments :-)

Miners for the most part. In fact, its pretty cool that price is keeping up meaning there is constantly funds injected into the market. Demand is still low and people are assessing 0.5.1 and waiting for Sia to come out of beta. Development is moving ahead fast, and there should be a new version in a couple of weeks I think. Stay tuned.

You're not the only one. Sia is the best kept secret in my mind. Hoard while the coins is still very cheap.

That error looks to me like a full hard drive. How do you figure it's sabotage or Sia's fault?

THUS i cannot access my 7.7 million SIA and they may be ..... lost ?

This release is full of bugs, i only tried to upload a file, then i deleted the file and now this happens.

How am i to recover my coins ? I deleted consensus and every time it gets to 1gb and something this happens. Every time. SIAD closes and then i get this error when trying to restart.

So yeah, maybe not sabotage, just bad coding ? BETA or not, this shouldn't happen.

Backup you wallet.json. Keep a safe copy (or 2, or 3) in a different location in case you accidentally move/delete stuff. Your coins are NEVER lost as long as you keep a backup of your wallet and the seed (your passphrase).

The issue you're reporting is not something I've seen reported before. But, we need more details in order to help you. Such as:

* OS
* are you running the latest version i.e 0.5.1?

I would advice you to just do a clean install, and resync the blockchain. Copy the wallet over (COPY!!! Keep a backup, always!!) before you run Sia again.

The "Not enough storage is available" is very clear. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you have enough disk space? How much space is available on the drive where Sia is installed on your system?

If you continue having problems, seek help on the official forum at http://forum.sia.tech

I am running 0.51

I have 12gb free space

I have made a few clean installs, deleting everything and copying wallet.dat

Problem is once it syncs ALMOST completely siad quits and if i try to restart i get the afordmentioned error.

I synced blochcain a few times, this happens every time so it is a wallet problem, specifically with the consensus.db.

I think it is because i've test uploaded a file which failed to upload, closed siad then when i restarted i deleted the unfinished upload. I think something in the consensus bugged really bad.

Now i hope on 0.5x next version i will be able to get my money back.

If you got any other ideas, please tell. I mined for a long time to get that amount of SIA.

Well I'm not sure if this is the problem but... You said you're using your "wallet.dat" file...

Sia uses a wallet.json now and you have to use the Load Legacy Wallet option probably. Click the wallet tab screen. Click on the unlock wallet thing then on load legacy wallet). Do this after you install a fresh copy of SIA and make sure your block height is at whatever it says here http://explore.sia.tech/

I've been running the wallet / share for about a week now. I actually have it running at 2 different locations, however im wondering if im actually getting as many contracts as others. I think I am currently asking 90SC per gig at one location, and 80SC per gig at the other. Both sites are currently at about 1k contracts, however, neither have hit 10 gigs used / shared yet. What kinds of numbers are others seeing and using Huh
