that is such a complicated question , but i think the reason for people getting addicted to gambling is coming from their greed . it is the nature of humans to be greedy and some people have this feature more than others and so they will waste their money on gambling in hope that they would win a lot of money and be rich.
also the thrill of gambling is something else to consider too.

well in zimbabwe there are a lot of millionaires even though its a poor country, the legend tells that its more beneficial to use money instead of toilet paper though i believe that spending 10 per cent of your wage on gambling is a bit too much

Im not sure if that is the only problem but rather people thinking that they can actually get rich by gambling, if everyone knew you actually CAN'T profit in the long term im pretty sure more than 70% of the people that gamble today wouldnt gamble.
