[..] 2016, The Year of Bitcoin..? [..]
.. No. The year of bitcoin was 2009. Specifically from January 3rd to January 12th 2009. ------------------- ..The 'honorary/second-tier' year of bitcoin was 2011. Specifically around June 12th 2009. ..The 'honorary/third-tier' year of bitcoin was 2013, as we all know ;p Specifically between March 6th 2013 & April 29th 2013, as well as from Sept. 29th 2013 to ~Jan. 6th 2014. ------------------- Understandably you froth at the mouth aching for your starry-eyed 2015-2017 bubble dreams to come to save you from financial disaster ; However, merely solving the blocksize debate + great bitcoin/blockchain-based service announcement news + the block reward halving of 2016 may certainly not be sufficient to turn BTC from a brushed-off curiosity into a *must-use* vehicle for the mainstream masses worldwide (a mass adoption scenario which indeed would raise prices stratospherically) - And thus, fail to mark 2016 as solid candidate for 'The [New] Year of Bitcoin'.

Invest in the future ; Doesn't have to be Bitcoin.

I think we can expect the 'year of the bitcoin' within five years but I really cant see it happening next year without some major players getting involved. If you haven't got patience to wait 5 or maybe even ten years I think you're just setting yourself up for disappointment as bitcoin isnt going to achieve mainstream success over night.

i agree with you, what will the majority will eventually choose what fork they want to use, whether it is the original, or XT, or some third option. and the prediction about bitcoin in 2016 is The price of bitcoin can be expected to rise to $400 over the next 12 months, according to a new report by Wedbush Securities.

Well this is a nice summary, if i have a blog i would quote your post. There are ups and downs including this year on February when an exchange was hacked and 7,170 BTC were stolen.

I really hope its going to be the year for btc, but looking at the price right now and the global economy going horrible with the stocks. I highly doubt it would be the year for bitcoin. Who knows?

Right. Everyone know the volatility of bitcoin. The actual situation is calm but soon bitcoin will go high. Supported by its disruptive technology which is behind it.

A lot of things have definitely happened in 2015 in regards to Bitcoin but nothing major has really happened yet. I don't see 2016 being the year of prosperity either, other than the price possibly doubling due to halving in the summer of next year. There needs to be more public awareness of this technology. The public is just beginning to understand technology fluently and it will be quite a while before mass adaptation happens.

I think it will take some more time to rise the prices of bitcoins, the future of bitcoin is really bright and it will take few more years.

This is just speculation and wishful thinking. I think we all wish that bitcoin is widely accepted and gains more value over time. Maybe 2016 will be the beginning of the future of bitcoin, where it goes from there we´ll have to wait and see.

Nothing will change as soon as mining keeps running and the bitcoin mining time doenst ends, then maybe the demand and supply will start to work the same way as works with gold silver oil others markets.2016 will be another year of financial problems from all countries and maybe some new investors into bitcoin,if an improvement or if it gets regulated maybe it can grow.

I hope 2016 will be the year of Bitcoin, just like 2013. This block halving will be the second time in Bitcoin history, which I hope help the price increase. Market needs more customers, if we bring more people to Bitcoin scene I'm sure it'll help a lot. 250$ is boring, we need 1000$ coins again!

I agree with you, buddy! That's why I'm holding most of my BTC for the next increase in price. When it reaches $1000, I'll be a bitcoinaire!

Who can tell, nobody knows for sure, it is like declaring the year of linux desktop, which is postponed every year by a year.. It is about keeping up the hope and good faith in the technology.. but it is still a gues. It will be the year of Bitcoin if I can buy a beer in my favourite bar here in town and since no one else is trying I will have to do the efforts myself

The bear market has lasted long enough. I predict 2016 is the year where bitcoin finally breaks through, both in price and in mainstream adoption.
The fork issue is a distraction. It won't kill bitcoin. The majority will eventually choose what fork they want to use, whether it is the original, or XT, or some third option.
I see the fork issue as silly infighting which only hurts bitcoin. I want bitcoin to succeed, that's what I care about, not what version of BTC I use. I will go with the majority, whichever fork is chosen.
I think you could be right. The reason is that I think major central bank currencies could go through a major crisis over the next 2 years and people will look to preserve their wealth in other ways. They will want gold, silver, things like this, but also some will gravitate toward bitcoin. More adoption means more supply.
