Just for the info. Something positive.... My batch 1 Ordered 31-08-2015 Payed within 15 minutes with btc 8.192 inc ship Shipped 22-09-2015 Confirmed e mail. In hand 25-09-2015 DHL Amsterdam I have had it in a tube from day one to bare the sound. At auto fan it was around 60 db. At the moment it is running for 3 weeks at 30% at 50 db. I don't have a propper db meter so it was a phone app. Happy mining, Beffje I'm guessing it's not in the tube with the fiberglass insulation ....... it is in the tube with fiber glass but the tube is : 1) liner inside 2) fiber glass 3) aluminum/mylar he most likely has it in the center of the tube with a small hole for pcie's cables if I were him I would use aluminum tape on the fiberglass just to cut down 'dust-air pollution' from the fans hitting the fiberglass. I have 2 in my garage using two sets of hvac tubes I found I needed a way to get air into my garage yet keep out chipmunks and squirrels see the solution. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slotted-Square-Tubing-1-1-4X3-Ft-Perf-Sq-Tube/161656320923?mine are not the same as above mine are made from aluminum I had two piece they fit perfectly

Didn't look like there was a liner from the pic.
Last thing I'd want is the unit to sit 'bare' on the insulation like that..

Yeah that's good. That's what I was hoping.. :-) I saw the insulated one below it and was hoping you were not using that one. If I were not going to heat the garage and basement with these I was thinking of doing the same..

My 2-up 2-down terraced house in England is being kept sufficiently warm by just half of one S1 ( 0.2kW ) in addition to the cooking and things which I usually do. Initial investment in a second hand S1 on ebay and two scrap ATX power supplies was not much at all. It does not make much bitcoin, but as much as it does is byproduct of heating.

Anybody had already an experience as to how S7 behaves at 0-10C? Better, worse?
As far as heating-last winter i had 2kw in miners pretty much throughout in ~2800 sq ft house and noticed approximately 50% reduction in nat gas bill during winter. No heating so far this fall, but we were down only to 58F (14.5C) so far. So, it does help somewhat.

I have then blowing into the return duct on a central forced hot air system. About 2900 sf of house that is only 8 years old and pretty well insulated. Also have a couple s3 blowing into return in my den. https://www.dropbox.com/s/m110oabe6hry3fd/IMG_5145.JPG?dl=0https://www.dropbox.com/s/jhw4hbapd76qfmm/IMG_5146.JPG?dl=0https://www.dropbox.com/s/haa4g81jgcsz3b7/IMG_5154.JPG?dl=0

Hi Beffje,
Can you show us how you setup the tube - I am trying to reduce the sound from my S7s - the neighbors are complaining now :-(
Thanks TMT
I put a piece of foam in front of the intake. Before I did that the miner was running at approx 75 Decimals https://www.dropbox.com/s/tma3fwh1lk5bym3/20151114_181306.jpg?dl=0After It is down to 59 Decimals here is a screenshot of the temperature. The miner is sitting in a garage with 6 other miners going. https://images.baconbits.org/images/8YCpU.png

wtf is that electricity job though This was explained earlier in the thread, I believe that it is a ground which is tied into the existing system to the metal portions (wires & sheathing) of the duct for additional safety from any static or other electrical damage, a wise idea when there is an 8 BTC machine in there!

The miner is sitting in a garage with 6 other miners going. Won't this cause the miner to run even louder since you are blocking the intake temperature? This is the cheapest way I found to dampen the sound without buying expensive sound insulation foam or mufflers. http://www.homedepot.ca/product/flexible-vinyl-ducting-6-inch-x-10-foot/968350

"For sure my wife would not let me keep the S7 with that annoying loud howling sound so I had to come up with a solution."
Unless you go watercooled the S7 is not a good idea for home miners, imo. Seriously, what are you guys thinking with your homemade tubes and extensions, they are a serious fire hazard. Let alone the noise pollution.
The extreme heat these monsters are releasing have marked a red line for me. The chance something is burning or melting, as demonstrated with pictures in other threads, is warning sign enough that home mining has reached a limit. And 1200 watt PSUs, do they even last for more than a year 24/7? They are also damn expensive.
Designwise, I don't like the entire single heatsinks on the back of the S7- many have reported them to be falling off. Back in the days of gpu mining you were better off with an AMD 5870 than 5970 too. It was just too much of a hassle to get them cooled and running smoothly. The 5970s often died prematurely, no wonder.
Until something has improved, the S5s are probably as high as I will go until the (final) end of home mining in August 2016.

Totally off topic... but you have a beautiful house I wasn't leaving it up long. Only wanted to leave it there about 30 minutes or so to disprove the previous statement about home mining being over. It all depends on how far one is willing to go with managing noise. Also, don't believe the hype about PSU's lasting no more than a year.
