I honestly believe the brick and mortar merchants where I live should be aware of Bitcoins and try to accept them. Majority of them still receive funds majorly in cash rather than debit cards or credit cards, so they're barely affected by any credit card fees that they'll have to pay. But, since I'v noticed many virtual forms of mobile payment are emerging here, adding Bitcoin to their list of accepting payments would be worthy. So I believe some conference or campaigns to encourage them to accept Bitcoins would be worthwhile.
Talk to them about Bitcoin then. Nobody will if you won't.

Yeah, I think we need to do more advertising for Bitcoin. Cos I don't see many people around me that know Bitcoin I've tried to gradually introducing Bitcoin to my friends, but I'm still a little hesitant to do so. Because I'm afraid they can't accept it and instead mocking me.
Exactly, same is the scenario in my country that no one is aware about the bitcoins, and that is the problem we all are facing when it comes to bitcoins, we want that every one should be aware and start using it then only bitcoins can get into the mainstream and we need to promote bitcoins in the positive way via internet or social media.

I think bitcoin really need advertising, in my area just me know about bitcoin, they are also active on the internet but don't know about bitcoin thats why need advertising So then why not start yourself to advertise Bitcoin? The easiest is by word of mouth. Organize a meetup or do some presentations. Their is always a simple and easy possibility to support Bitcoin.

They probably will accept it if you take time to explain the benefits. So many benefits are available. ITs really not that easy to explain BTC to anyone who isn't involve in online shops. Just by the fact that BTC's value changes from time to time, thier minds will go upside down thinking if its value will fall down. They don't want their money to be stocked as they need to invest it again for store supply.

Bitcoin gets free press everyday, from the mainstream press, to the blogosphere, to the internet radio stations telling everyone the world is going to end, to Greek and Spanish politicians, Russian bankers, Chinese news agencies.
Literally everyone is involved in Bitcoin on a global level, it's getting the press it needs. Nobody knows how to sell Bitcoin better than Bitcoin!

I agree with this. We just need to give some time to Bitcoin to mature enough. Also, we need to give the world time to wrap Bitcoin around their minds and to learn to trust it and see the real benefits of using this blockchain technology! Yes this will take time. People don't like changes, especially the changes involving their finances.

I have never seen people make advertisement for any kind of money Money's value comes from people's willingness to use it to exchange other things. Most of the people today trust government issued money because they either don't understand how fiat money works or they feel secure when some large entity is "orally backing" it Some people who understand how fiat money works would select other types of currency like gold or bitcoin. But to understand how modern fiat money works is not an easy task, I don't think any average Joe would reach this level of understanding without years of research and thinking Majority of the people join bitcoin community to make a quick buck, but to get rich quick is also a promise of bitcoin (in a worldwide QE environment), so they can learn about how fiat money works when they are making quick profit

Yes, certainly. Bitcoin is spreading, but not at a very fast pace. It is used more and more in online payments and shopping and I feel as if we need to encourage this to enable bitcoin to grow further.

I'm sure that bitcoin should be advertised more, but not with traditional media. Word-of-mouth marketing, famous bloggers, youtube channels and etc. I guess that leader of opinion is the most powerful channel of communication in this case (blogs, articles and videos about how they use bitcoins and why its worth it)

I agree. Although many people know about Bitcoin by now, IMO still most of them don't. But it's not so easy to find a new ways of advertisement. Worth a try though.

Bitcoin itself should not be advertised, only bitcoin related services should, because if you are to advertise bitcoin it would just make it resemble some ponzi scheme. With the financial freedom bitcoin offers, there's no need for promotion, if people want it , they will find it themselves. Anyways - who would profit from promoting it ? On the other hand, services are something else, and are the way for bitcoin to get exposure and services get customers, so it's a win-win situation.

ok.. here is an idea..
we all know that there is a $4 spread between the different exchanges (1%).. so lets use it. as we all know, most payment processors do.
for instance. lets say: bitstamp: $335/btc bitfinex: $339/btc
now.. when a retailer is being told about bitcoin.. they are told if they usually sell an item for (make things simple) $336.. they display a QR code for 1BTC.. and that 1BTC is converted to $336.. at btc average akin to bitstamp no fee, no cost.. job done. everyone is happy
but now is the clever part.. instead of bitpay getting $4 by secretly selling on bitfinex, even though they displayed a bitcoin average more akin to bitstamp.. that $4 goes to a customer loyalty pot.. not for bitcoin users.. but for regular fiat customers with a fiat loyalty card
its given to customers who do not use bitcoin so that way regular customers get a bit of bitcoin to gather up, and spend later.. whilst slowly learning about bitcoin.
the greater thing is that this loyalty card system not only streamlines bitcoin acceptance. but also help businesses create loyalty because they are giving out free money to customers, at no cost to the merchant.

It's not a bad idea - but the problem I see is that the cost is actually taken on by the middleman (in this case Bitpay). They too are running a business and are unlikely to share the same idea that Bitcoin should be promoted given that it negatively affects their bottom line. Promoting Bitcoin is always a problem - because who is willing to fund such promotion (consumers don't want to do it, business don't want to lose profit). If only there was an actual representative body that wasn't completely incompetent and useless *cough cough*.
