Long term investment in bitcoin is very much safe, you can understand it by this;
There was a man who brought bitcoins when they worth pennies of about $15 and when the price jumped to $1150 you can imagine that how much he have gained for a mere investment of $15.

You can also imagine the guy who bought bitcoins at $1000 each two years ago, and now they're worth $300 each. Long term didn't turn out so good for him, and he probably feels like an idiot now.

Would you call 1.5-2 years long term?! lol

Some people here consider 2 months to be long term  Cheesy I personally find long term to be at least 5 years. 2 years is what I consider to be medium longterm.

Yeah. 5 years is the bare minimum. Some people think it's 10 years and I don't disagree with them.

Under construction.

5 years is not sufficient, see bitcoin it's 6 years old and barely took off, you need 10 years as minimum and 20 years for something to happen like satoshi said

Wow 5 years... in my opinion that's quite long although it's true that at least 5 years is called long term but I can't stand such long time so my definition for long term is 2-3 years Grin

For me it's not even 2-3 years as I believe in present, I don't care about future If my bitcoins are giving me good profits at regular interval then why should I wait for next 5 years or so as we are not aware we don't know where bitcoins will stand in next 5 years So it's better to follow the present and start making profits.

now the age of gold, still very young, you're right, it might take 20 years, and when you buy bitcoin in 20 years earlier
then you sell it in 20 years to come, maybe you'll get a big advantage!

You realize that you will be shaken out with every peek or valley in bitcoin's price, just for a few bucks profit? Perfectly fine of course but don't come back in a few years trolling with regret, like the guys who sold at 7 dollar because it went up from 2 dollar so sudden.

As for OP, just buy and hold one bitcoin in a paper wallet and don't look at the daily price fluctuations. I assume one bitcoin is just a small percentage of your net worth, consider it an expensive lottery tickets with considerable better changes of a good return.

- You can figure out what will happen, not when /Warren Buffett
- Pay any Bitcoin address privately with a little help of Monero.

5 years is nothing!
As Amph mentioned Bitcoin is almost 7 years old and we are still far away from mainstream, in technical respect and also acceptance.
I also see 10 year is the minimun for a long term hold. And 15-20 years might the timeframe where bitcoin gain it's bigger (6 digits) value.

You didn't got his point mate.

His saying that why he should wait for 5 or more years if today he can make profit. That is a good decision rather than waiting for long years. And besides for sure while making profit still he's acquiring more coins so no change. He can still take the advantage if bitcoin will kicks much price.

Buying just one bitcoin today and holding it would be a good investment. The real question is how long are you willing to wait to cash out ? The price could rise to $1,000, $10,000 or maybe even $100,000 per bitcoin. It is all up to an individual to wait and see how long they are willing to wait for the ride to arrive.  Grin

yeah correct, if you want to wait 5 years, maybe you will gain a lot
if you cannot wait, maybe you will lose, or it could be profitable
bitcoin is volatile

It's ok kabayan. Still profit for those you buy @ 400 is really possible. Patience really must.

First large decrease after the big rally I bought at $350 mark but then the price really go down until 310 for quite a weeks. No worries. I just sit those coins I bought $350 mark waiting for their target and while doing that I able to buy at 320 and 314 and sold it many times at 330 - 340. Now those coins I bought @ 350 can have profit now if I will sold it but decided to stay long because of some "good" basis. I cover the loss @ 350 and made some profit and will much have great profit if I sold those coins I buy at 350.

How safe is it?

Buying Bitcoin is not safe, but buying today is beter than nothing.
Buying bitcoin now is good, because the price is kinda low and if we are lucky the price later will increase so yeah.

But if you are not comfortable buying it than don't do it.

I suggest to make the Buffett(hold and accumulate)!
Of course it's risky because cryptos are still in very early stages and no one knows where we are heading.
BUT if Bitcoin will make it to mainstream, the value will be huge over the years. So having patience, speaking of 10+ years, could be absolutely worth it.

Thanks for your post! That somehow cheer me up and helped me not to lose hope getting good profit with the coins I bought on the said amount. Well I admit I am bad at trading but hopefully to get used into it as time goes by. All I need to do right now is to wait and be patient. Though I am hoping it won't take too long Cheesy

I do believe that it's a good long term investment but nobody can say that it's safe

Nobody knows exactly when and if the bitcoin will increase in value. We can only speculate and hope for the best and take some chances to win or lose some.

Today the price has been increased a bit so maybe it's the time to stop and see what will happen but probably it will not fall down again like the last time.

Such an "Investment" is never safe.. but considering the Ups and Downs of BTC.. i think as a LONG TERM investment.. definetly worth.

If your outlook is 3 months, then you should wait I think. But if you can wait (miss your money) for a year or longer, then I would give you my blessing.
