Is it possible to generate iota addresses for a paper wallet on an offline PC that never goes on the internet?

The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the

Sure of course. And I'll save you some time in the future. The phrase you are looking for here is "air gapped".

When I last tried running the wallet generating an address took about 90 sec and my CPU went into overdrive

It will get attached to the tangle when someone makes a transaction towards it. So your seed doesn't have to leave the offline machine.

I just installed 1.06 over 1.03 I logged in with my seed which used to have 1Gi
Now I cannot see anything in my balance anymore. And the wallet does not give any indication of synchronizing. Transactions to request is zero (has been from the start) and cpu at 0%
Have I lost my balance by installing over? I thought the seed was all that was needed to keep balance
Why is it not synchronizing?

Mandatory upgrade to 1.0.6 - http://forum.iotatoken.com/t/mandatory-upgrade-1-0-6/952"As mentioned, there is no more automated peer discovery. What this means is that you have to manually find peers (5 - 7+ suggested) by asking people on Slack or the forum for their IP's. If you are running the GUI, you can easily add these nodes through Edit Server Configuration. It is very important to keep in mind that the current version has mutual tethering. What this means is that you and your neighbor need to have each other added to their local node for the tethering process to work. Therefore when you ask your neighbor for their node, give them yours as well so that you can add each other to your nodes. All nodes should be added using the same schema: udp://IPADDRESS:PORT"

Version 1.06 delete the database (IRI folder). You can download an actual DB here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6g7j3hs92zjbife/IRI.zip?dl=0Automatic peerdiscovery is disabled in the new version (created problems). You need to find new nodes. Ask in slack.

Yes, you have to find peers now until a "lite" version is available.

Extremely communicative people, who are ready to contact 7 random unknown people (strangers) in some place called "slack", and start friendship with them - ask them to give you their IP address, then ask them to add your IP as a peer. I have a new motto for IOTA: " IOTA - Connecting People!". Sounds too familiar though ***** Side thought: as I do not belong to any of two categories above, I would rather wait for a light wallet though...

don't really have to be extremely communicative, just enough to make a sentence like (please let's exchange nodes...).... I guess one does not even need to be a Hero Member in order to have those basic skills

When I tried generating some addresses on an air gapped PC I was only able to generate one address per seed. When I went to 'receive' an address appeared, but when I click 'attach to tangle' the wallet just shows 'no milestone yet' for obvious reasons, and I can't see how to go onto generate a second address while the first is trying to attach to the tangle, so the user can't generate multiple addresses from a single seed on an air gapped PC. Is there a way to generate addresses using an api call maybe? I need more than one address for my balance, but would prefer using one seed.

I imagine this functionality can be added to the GUI at a later date, but I would be interested to know for sure.

Since Iota is for machines, how can we ensure that a headless Iota client is in sync. What should be logged or not logged when it's properly synced?

You check if you are synced by issuing a transaction and observing the percentage of new transactions approving yours.

I may not understood the concept of IOTA, but the need of issuing a transaction to check proper sync sounds strange
