A massive trade which popped right out of nowhere have been reportedly completed with the New York Knicks acquiring Karl-Anthony Towns from Timberwolves for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first round pick (protected) via Detroit. As reported by Shams Charania on X https://x.com/ShamsCharania/status/1839851169968984211This is my opinion is quite a disruption deal for both franchise, while I'm really curious to see how it will all play out, I'm currently convinced that it's more of win for the Wolves than for Knicks, I could be wrong, though. Agreed, KAT is very inconsistent and injury prone while Knicks player that they give up is reliable and versatile. I wonder how Knicks will utilize this trade by giving up a lot of key player that was supposed vital to build a solid team for them. If you say that KAT is injury prone then why they take that risk to get him? Same with the Wolves as well, Randle is coming off from a injury and we don't know the extend of it. If by unfortunate chance, he got injured again, it could be another season ending and obviously, they will lose the capacity of that big men. He is literally injured every year. With this big man size and the way he play makes him injury prone that’s why his game play sometimes so play safe because he doesn’t want to have a hard contact frequently or else he will be out again. Wolves allow this trade since they knew that KAT still has some premium because of his dominating game when he is on it. They already have Gobert as big man while the addition will be very good to help ANT have some space which KAT can’t provide consistently. You can check KAT injury history here: https://www.foxsports.com/nba/karl-anthony-towns-player-injuriesAs per my opinion both KAT and Randle already on their past primes, and both already have another stars who's carrying their teams, AE is now the main man of Timverwolves while New york already got Brunson, these trades will give both stars new chance to help their respective teams, I guess both franchise knew what they are doing for the business, let just wait and see if who's going to maximize the trade and will show much better perfomrmances.

Timberwolves got the better end of this trade IMO, picked up an aging star along with a 3 point threat and a 1st rounder and got rid of an aging star who when on the court is dominant but has isn't always available. Brunson probably upset that 1 of his Villanova guys is gone, btu he will get over it.

I am not sure if this was a contract thing, like when does contracts end in all these players, maybe Randle has a shorter one. Wolves tried out the big two towers thingy, where they have Gobert and KAT together, and obviously they decided that it doesn't work, and Randle would definitely fit perfectly along with Gobert, he is not short and he can defend but he can be perimeter defender too and he can play from outside on offense too, very good deal.
This all depends on Rnalde staying healthy though, if he gets injured again, then I do not think that recovery will be that easy, plus he needs to adjust to Wolves, so he can't afford to miss that many games this season, he needs to play so that he can get used to until the playoffs.
Wolves showed us this playoff run that the yare better than what people expect them to be, OKC for example finished at the top and still failed at playoffs, but Wolves ended up playing so well at the playoffs and beat most teams, so I think it is clear that this change was a hard one. You do not change something that works, and it worked for them, so changing this makes it harder for Wolves to repeat, or if it all works like intended then they may do even better.

I actually like the deal for the Knicks. Towns give them some size and also decent 3 point shooting. Dante is a solid player as well for the Wolfes and tbh I am not a fan of Julius Randle so NY did a good thing moving on from him. He gets injured all the time and his head often seems to be somewhere else. KAT though also has some issues of course, sometimes it feels like he doesn't take things too serious.
But anyway, this deal can benefit both teams, also financially. I really love those trades that totally come out of nowhere, hopefully we will see some more before the season starts, even though I somehow doubt it.
The Knicks are in need of a big because they can't rely on an injury-prone Mitchell Robinson to defend the paint and it's reported that DiVincenzo doesn't want to have a reduced role on the team hence, he got included in the trade. If I choose on who's the winner on this trade, I will say the Knicks just because they need a big more than a shooter like Randle and DiVincenzo. Speaking of shooting, we know that Randle averages around 15 shots per game when he's on NYK which is pretty high knowing that he isn't a shooting guard. Now that he's on a team where he isn't the main guy, will he make an adjustment and shoot less so that Edwards will not be affected? Or he will stay the same that will make a high number of shots every single game which might affect the team depending on how good he is on that night. Like you, I also love these out-of-nowhere trades, and who knows, we might see more in the upcoming days before the regular season starts. It's hard to see which is the winner right now, so let's just see how these 2 teams play on the regular season now that they have a big roster change. Anyway, KAT and Coach Thibs are on the same team again.

He has knee injuries too often, and this is not good for such a player. It seems to me that he will not be able to recover quickly. After all, this is a place that requires constant rest in case of injury. And when to rest if you need to be in the game and show results? Well, not the best story. If you do not pay attention to this problem in time, you can fly out of big-time sports once and for all.

KAT is 28, he is in his prime. Wouldn't call him aging at all actually. By the way, Julius Randle is actually older than KAT. About the Villanova connection, well they got a new one in Bridges and lost DD which is obviously the worse player of those to. So the "swap" Villanova wise was still ok for JB I suppose. The draft pick has a lot of value I think since it's a Detroit one, unfortunately it's top 13 protected though. I don't see Detroit getting over the hump anytime soon.

Minnesota didn’t have the money to pay out Ant and KAT over the coming years so they took an opportunity to try and get better for the short term and the long term by building some more toughness. We’ll see how it turns out. This will be one of the more interesting things to watch this year.

And no one argues that KAT is a good and effective player who is capable of changing the course of the match. It was not for nothing that he was bought, in my opinion. This is a wonderful investment of money. There will definitely be a profit from this investment. Everything has its time, as they say. If there was no faith in this player, then they would not have acquired him.

Speaking of DRose retirement and questions about him and the Bull retiring his jersey, the Toronto Raptors recently announced that they will retire Vince Carter jersey, Raptors will retire Vince Carter's No. 15 jersey in NovemberThe Toronto Raptors will retire the No. 15 jersey of eight-time All-Star Vince Carter on Nov. 2, team president Masai Ujiri announced Friday during a public function. “We do it with great pride and great honor,” Ujiri said. “So on behalf of all of us, we say congratulations Vince.” Carter was in Toronto for a ceremony at the renovated Vince Carter Court, where he was overcome with emotion as Ujiri surprised him with the news that he would become the first Raptors player to have his jersey raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena.
“I’m beyond words,” Carter said per The Canadian Press.
The Raptors hung No. 15 jerseys throughout Toronto in the days leading up to Friday’s announcement.
So maybe there could still be some hint that the Bulls might do it for DRose. Yes, he didn't win a ring for them and so is Carter, and DRose really put the Bulls on the map during his stay with them with his freak athleticism and posterizing Dragic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRAp00SxP30

Yeah, I see some highlights of Donte during his stint with the Knicks and that killer 3's. For sure they could have other players to step in for him and they are filled with shooting guards. But we can't take that away from him, on what he did in the Knicks and fans surely love him for that. As for Randle, I might have been a few who thinks that he is going to be traded as we have seen Jalen Brunson's performance. And the management thinks that he is no longer needed.
Yeah, I have an idea that Randle will be traded but I didn't expect they would add Donte to it. Maybe the Timberwolves also want to cripple them a bit and then Donte could also be a good addition to their firepower especially when Antman is trying to penetrate. They need shooters to space the floor. I think KAT was clearly the best player in this trade and I think it is the biggest deal of the offseason so far. All the analysts are saying the same thing about the motivation behind this deal. We’ll see how it turns out. This will be one of the more interesting things to watch this year.
And that also. KAT's price is high and the Timberwolves will be focusing all their money on Antman so they only need players that would help him out and not another star. Still, I think the Knicks won this trade but not that much. We still need to see how it will work out with Brunson and KAT because this will be the first time they play with each other. Anyway, I think KAT is also glad that he is out of the Timberwolves because I have a feeling that the fans are starting to hate him after that bad WCF performance.

Rose deserves recognition in the NBA. No player wants to get injured, and during his prime, D. Rose was truly remarkable. He wasn’t afraid to go up against the big guys, never played it safe to avoid injury. With all his effort and love for the team, he deserves that reward. And honestly, after the Bulls, there wasn’t any other team where D. Rose made such a significant impact.

~~~ So maybe there could still be some hint that the Bulls might do it for DRose. I mean Derrick Rose has been a big help towards their run during his prime. Most of his achievements as well is when he's on Chicago and many fans love him as well. I will not be surprised if they will announce it this year or at least this 2024-2025 NBA Regular season. He deserves that achievement - to retire his #1 jersey. I hope they will do it like what they did to Vince Carter. That posterized by Dragic is one of his most nasty plays during his prime. Until now, I'm still questioning myself "Why did Dragic did that?"  Timberwolves got the better end of this trade IMO, picked up an aging star along with a 3 point threat and a 1st rounder and got rid of an aging star who when on the court is dominant but has isn't always available. Brunson probably upset that 1 of his Villanova guys is gone, btu he will get over it.
I said that the Knicks won this trade just because they got a reliable big that could help them defend the paint and I think that's still the case until now for me. I respect the opinion though since the Wolves got an all-star player and at the same time, a reliable three-point shooter as well in DiVincenzo, but they need to do it because having 3 bigs on one team isn't good for them and they need to get rid of that huge contract that KAT got. With Randle being a free agent next year, they might just let him leave the team or resign depending on his performance this season. As for Brunson, he will just get over it like you said. I believe that he expected that there will be at some point where they will play with different teams. At the end of the day, they're still friends and I also believe that DiVincenzo will have more playing time in Minnesota than in New York.
As for Brunson, he will just get over it like you said. I believe that he expected that there will be at some point where they will play with different teams. At the end of the day, they're still friends and I also believe that DiVincenzo will have more playing time in Minnesota than in New York.
I doubt that, because if you look at this career stats, *** https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/divindo01.html).. His MP last season was 29.1, the highest in his career, and we don't even know if he'll be a starter with the Wolves.
This is I think the latest depth chart of Wolves https://www.espn.com/nba/team/depth/_/name/min DiVincenzo is listed in second unit which and they need major contributor coming off the bench. The starting five of Wolves is solid and If Randle will be questionable then I guess Naz Reid will be his replacement since they already test out how efficient this guy when they need solid player to step up for their team. Even though Wolves lose KAT they are still an exciting team since their new added player is well known contributor for their past team so with their latest movement there's no doubt that they became a title contender again.
To be fair, there is a potential that Derrick Rose could be the youngest MVP of his time and not make it to hall of fame.
I still think he should, but when you look at his career, aside from his very first years, there isn't really anything hall of fame worth, and you do not give a few years a hall of fame entry, usually it is for a career, and that dude didn't play good at all for over ten years, that's something that's hard, he has been injured beyond repair.
Brandon Roy for example knew that his time was up and just left, he won't be getting any hall of fame chances, because he left, and knew he couldn't play.
Derrick Rose couldn't stop, didn't feel like stopping, hell even Greg Oden realized his body wasn't taking it, and instead of being injured for many years and not play any games and just have few more games, he just quit.
Derrick Rose was phenomenal when he played and was healthy, but that dude definitely doesn't deserve neither a jersey retirement nor a hall of fame. I know I might be sounding a little harsh, like I hate him or something, but I don't, he was a cool player to watch and I liked him when he played good but that was just a few seasons at best, no need to glorify a few seasons this much.
Timberwolves got the better end of this trade IMO, picked up an aging star along with a 3 point threat and a 1st rounder and got rid of an aging star who when on the court is dominant but has isn't always available. Brunson probably upset that 1 of his Villanova guys is gone, btu he will get over it.
KAT is 28, he is in his prime. Wouldn't call him aging at all actually. By the way, Julius Randle is actually older than KAT. About the Villanova connection, well they got a new one in Bridges and lost DD which is obviously the worse player of those to. So the "swap" Villanova wise was still ok for JB I suppose.  The draft pick has a lot of value I think since it's a Detroit one, unfortunately it's top 13 protected though. I don't see Detroit getting over the hump anytime soon.  Yeah I wouldn't call KAT past his prime, same with randle I think both are right in the middle of it. Staying on the court will determine who got the better of the trade. Knicks upgraded theor 5 but got extremely weak at the 4 behind OG. OG has his own injury issues. I think that will be huge here too. If OG stays healthy losing randle won't be that huge. And with the Detroit pick, yeah ultimately it might just convey into 2nd round picks because of the protections attached to it.
It's just disappointing about the Villanova Boys. We really thought that lineup would come together. Now only Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart are left. But in case all four Villanova Boys end up on the same team, one of them would surely end up on the bench and that's Donte DiVincenzo. I don't see all four of them being effective together or as part of the starting five. That's why I can say that this trade between Minnesota and New York is a win-win for both teams. The Wolves don't need another center since they already have Gobert and Naz Reid, who are reliable. I think Naz Reid will be a starter this season.
This is a good question. Who won the Knicks-Wolves blockbuster? And how does it impact the NBA's title picture?https://sports.yahoo.com/who-won-the-knicks-wolves-blockbuster-and-how-does-it-impact-the-nbas-title-picture-003045406.htmlDan Titus: The Wolves. Dan Devine: … Everybody? Nobody? Ben Rohrbach: The teams just swapped issues. Neither team wanted to pay an existing star who has struggled with injuries and playoff confidence, so why not see if the grass is greener on the other side? No one could say what could happen at this point. Didn't many basketball fans and analysts also question the pair of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic? They didn't believe it would work and they ate all that they said while watching them play in the Finals. The thing about trades is that it could work out or not and I think it will depend on the team. Luka accepted Kyrie and vice versa. Kyrie stepped back for Luka because he knew he was the leader of the team and respect was created. We will see if KAT could be the same with JB, he is a star and so is JB but there should be no friction when it comes to leadership.
I also see that way, maybe the reason why they added Donte for that trade as they can't risk that small lineup hopefully it adds up and this trade will materiliaze to them, with Brunson's ledership I'm pretty sure KAT will get his use of it, they just need to jive / blend their game and create a good chemistries with each other. In terms of Reid, that's possible to become a starter since the coach is fan of a twin tower set up, now that both KAT and Anderson are no longer with the team Reid will take that position as he's very familiar with that system.
