I don't know if there are any other team trying to recruit him, we haven't heard any for a few weeks now.

From what I've heard, the Knicks held a private/unofficial 5v5 workouts yesterday and Melo took part in those. I'd rather not see him again playing for the Knicks and that prick of an owner Dolan is.

Well isn't that interesting?  Grin Now that the Knicks have basically no one, I would not want Melo to spend his last few years there either. The Nets is the better option for him.

Nets would be idiots to not sign Melo if their current SF is out like the news say. I forgot his name but he was caught with PED in his bloodstream so he was banned like 25 games or so. Which means they can get Melo for at least 25 games if not more, I can understand a team not wanting to play Melo 82 games but at least bear with him for 25 games until your guy is back, hell maybe 5 more after to adjust your guy into the starting five again.

Melo is not as bad as people make him out to be, dude may not be efficient but he is the type of guy you give the ball and say "find a way to score" and that is not very common in NBA, we all name superstars when we try to name that type of person which shows you that Melo was a superstar and he is still a great veteran for any team.

So KD and Kyrie are recruiting the still unsigned Melo to join them in Brooklyn. What do you guys think? A one year contract sounds like a good deal to me since KD won't be able to play for a long time. I hope Melo's manager don't act like a tough guy if ever the Nets management contacts him.

They are hungry for signing so it's impossible for Melo's handler to act like that.

They even involved in a scrimmage with the Nets several weeks ago but still no sign that this team is showing an interest up to this date.

But honestly, Nets should take the risks signing this veteran even for a one year contract although they are focus now on building much younger stars along with their current superstars. KD is out the whole season, as expected, so Melo will be a good replacement. However, what stopping Nets from acquiring him? Maybe they think Melo will destroy the momentum of their current young stars just like Team USA's expectation when Melo ask for permission if he want to play at their team.

Let's see if Irving and KD's push will yield a good result for Melo.

If Melo can adjust and he can remove his ego and accept his role as a bench then maybe a one year deal will be a worthy deal for him and a chance for him to redeem himself.

Carmelo Anthony is willing to do whatever it takes, including accepting a far lesser role, in order to make it back to the league.

Carmelo Anthony Says He Loves the Game Too Much To Step Away and Is Ready To Accept A Lesser Role

If Melo will be able to play along with KD and Irving and accept a lessor role, he might get compensated with a championship as whoever team Durant is playing has a chance to be an NBA champion. I believe Melo already know his current status now, he is not a star anymore, he struggle to get sign so it's already a blessing for him if he will be able to play with 2 of the greatest NBA players in the NBA, and those two players were once NBA champions.

They do have something in common, Westbrook hated them. Grin
Maybe they could form a chemistry with talking about that. But it will be next year before KD will be back.
He should now put himself into good position even if he is just being given a little minutes.
I wouldnt dare make a ruckus by being a mad man telling the whole management he want more minutes.
Just take the job and improve. Showcase everything you got.

Melo will only have a chance to play with Kevin Durant next season (2020-21) and I don't see Nets will give Melo a 2-year contract if ever they will take a shot. The absence of KD is a good chance for him if ever Melo will be signed by them to showcase what's left in him.

However, if it didn't work out the whole season, no way Nets will resign this veteran for a chance to pair with Kevin Durant. And I think, aside from that bench or secondary role, Melo's camp should accept a veteran salary. We all know that Nets already push their limits to acquired Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

I was searching for some free agents still unsigned on this site https://www.nba.com/freeagents/2019/tracker

It appears a lot of familiar vets (other than Carmelo, JR Smith, Jamal Crawford) are still looking for new teams:
Luol Deng
Shaun Livingston
Timofey Mozgov
Lance Stephenson

I don't know but I believe Livingston still has something to offer.

I think Lance Stephenson will play on China as well - https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/lance-stephenson-agrees-to-one-year-4m-deal-with-liaoning-flying-leopards-of-chinese-basketball-association-per/

While there are rumours that Shaun Livingston is going to retire, but I think he is hinting of another season before finally calling it quit.

I don't know if you guys are familiar with Luol Deng, but he has life outside of the NBA as he is a a real state mogul - https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2019/06/21/the-nbas-unlikeliest-real-estate-mogul-luol-dengs-125-million-portfolio-is-a-new-playbook-for-monetizing-fame/#53b9441c1db9

Timofey Mozgov - report says that he is going back to his former EuroLeague team - https://twitter.com/nikosvarlas/status/1149581115520237573

Same pay rate when he was with the Lakers but with more playing time. Not bad for him.

Is he now? Well, it's been a good career for him so I won't blame him if he's already satisfied with what he achieved as a player.

This is awesome. Good to see former/active NBA players building their life outside the NBA. If he's making good money in real estate then it may be better for him to retire.

I know Luol Deng when he was still playing with the Bulls along with Derrick Rose, but after his time with the Bulls, I was not able to follow him anymore.
But what you shared was really impressive for him, he is a smart guy knowing that his life is not all about NBA, he invested maybe his salary from the NBA to this real state business, I think he has a great financial adviser for him to have this kind of accomplishment.

He doesn't' need to play if he don't want to, his business is enough that can provide him for his life after NBA, hopefully he will be able to retire.

I hope every NBA players will be able to realize that their career is not forever, Deng is a good example, instead of living a lavish life, they have to save and invest. Maybe one of the reasons why NBA players are desperate to get sign even at a lower salary is because they don't have any option for their income, they were not able to manage their salary effectively, and investing is really a best choose instead of just saving it.

Exactly. How many players what we seen being bankrupt after a successful NBA career? Because they thought that the money will roll over for many years and continue with their lavish lifestyle, i.e. buying expensive cars, gambling. And then when it's over, all of their friends are gone and you have zero money in your bank account. Good for Deng or even Shaq, he also a lot of good investments after his NBA career.

That is one.
They really need to save money and that is also why they need to be signed as soon as possible.
When you are used to that kind of salary, office jobs wont work.

That is also why we see NBA players takes jobs being analyst with ESPN or Fox.
Looks like even with those millions of dollars is not enough for them. They got used to an expensive life and they dont want to lose it.

If I remember correctly David West, for example, is one of those players who have made so much money that he could have retired 10 years earlier and still would be have been super rich. I mean it is ups and downs kind of deal. Of course, no business brings in as much as playing basketball, you get to be paid 10+ million a year (as much as 40 for high end superstars) and than you get to make tons of money with endorsement deals as well, Gatorade, Nike, many other stuff as well. That is why I think players are not that poor anymore, maybe 10-20 years ago but nowadays they are getting paid insane amount of money and you could totally live with that anywhere in the world, even high end cities like London.

This is the reason, being smart about your investment is important but not spending all you have is more important, you can live with no profits on your investments and just the money you made, let it be on your bank account without gaining a single dollar interest, you would still be fine, all you have to do is not spend too much.

You can still survive if you won't spend too much and not to live like it will never be emptied, most of those wise players do have business or investment that will allow their money to grow more, it's hard not to invest once you have a luxury lifestyle, you should think wiser instead of keeping your check inside the banks, best to find good investment and make your money work for you.

Yeah and one of the good business they could make is sportswear. There is a problem though, it needs fame for that to click to the people.
Jordan's up until now is number one then Lebron's, KD's and Kobe shoes.
Jordan will never get into a stage where he will get poor anymore. Money is just coming in every day.

For those at the bench who makes just 6 digits every year will need some discipline. Everything is free to them, lodging, food and their wears. That salary wont even need to move a single penny except if they have mortgages and insurance.
It is an easy job though which you enjoy, I guess that is one part which is better than any who works at an office job.

Jordan is not making money like people think he is. Of course he is making money from the Air Jordan business and he makes a ton of profits since he spends nothing but just his name however if you check Charlotte hornets he is not really profiting as much as other teams and he has to spend more money to get even better each and every year and still fails.

Hence, owning a team is not that profitable if its not like Knicks or Lakers, even while losing almost all their games Knicks and Lakers made profits because of their names whereas just recently I have read that San Antonio Spurs lost 6 million dollars for a whole season, not because they were bad, they were one of the best teams but they are a small market team so they did lost money no matter how good they were.

The only problem is that some of the players are being offered million dollar salary and most of them are very young. I remember Shaq saying that once he received his first million, he bought a car for him and then for his father. And then when his mother see the car, he sort of complain or something and then he bought her as well on the same day. He said that he almost got broke after that day and 1 million is gone. That's why he learn his lessons in the hard way, but it's all good because he was very rich after he retire.

For some young NBA players, they are not lucky as Shaq as they are surrounded by friends and families who just asked for money. Case in point, Antoine Walker.

No matter how big your contract salary is, if those amounts or cash havent managed well then you would really end up nothing.Sometimes mistakes made us realize but most of them do stick out with that lavish lifestyle and dont mind on what are the things that lies ahead. Its true that career doesnt last forever thats why
money management is crucial. If all of them have the same mindset like Shaq and Deng then these kind of money problems wont exist even they do end up their NBA career.
