There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

honestly, is there any difference in reward between Master nodes and staking?

I am literally making the same amount listed there....and in that link, MN making the same as stakers.

when there's too many masternodes the rewards are split equally, the less you have of a group, the more they get, just like a mining pool, the more miners the more ways you need to share the same reward, read the seesaw whitepaper for understanding the details how it's calculated.

I think the masternodes will give slightly better rewards compared to staking to compensate for running the masternodes on dedicated machines with distinct IP addresses.

http://178.254.23.111/~pub/DN/DN_masternode_payments_stats.html there you can see the current reward:

Reward from last Block for Miners/Stakers: 2.25 PIV
Reward from last Block for Masternodes: 2.25 PIV

Current Number of Masternodes: 2197 ( I think the limit is around 2200~ so we're at max~ish that's why reward is same as staking)

Hi all,

Any special trick with PIVX to get it staking (apart from unlocking the wallet)?

"staking status" : "Staking Not Active"

It was actually working some time ago, got a few stakes, then I think I updated at some point and it stopped woring and I didnt bother with it too much.

Now running the latest version 2.2.1 of pivxd on ubuntu server, protocol version 70710.

And still after almost a week the wallet has been unlocked, online all the time, 125 connections AND: "staking status" : "Staking Not Active"

Edit: a bit more info:

Code:
pivx-cli getstakingstatus
{
    "validtime" : true,
    "haveconnections" : true,
    "walletunlocked" : true,
    "mintablecoins" : true,
    "enoughcoins" : true,
    "mnsync" : false
}

Code:
pivx-cli getinfo
{
    "version" : 2020100,
    "protocolversion" : 70710,
    "walletversion" : 61000,
    "balance" : xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
    "obfuscation_balance" : 0.00000000,
    "blocks" : 709319,
    "timeoffset" : 0,
    "connections" : 124,
    "proxy" : "",
    "difficulty" : 0.00390625,
    "testnet" : false,
    "keypoololdest" : 1493364062,

    "unlocked_until" : 1502186470,
    "paytxfee" : 0.00000000,

Have you tried restarting pivxd? And did you make sure your on the proper chain?

Masternoders, have you noticed a higher-than-normal rate of missing MNs lately? For the past month or two, many of mine have randomly stopped syncing every couple of weeks--like not all at once, just on average each one has a sync issue more often than before. They used to be rock solid. Not sure if it's a PIVX network thing or a VPS thing. I just reindex the remote wallet and everything is fine, but still, kind of annoying. (Everything is on 2.2.1.)

Restarted several times as well as synced from scratch with the latest version... Block hashas are the same as on the explorer...so correct chain.

You might want to head over to slack, if you haven't already. DRPD posted the link a couple posts above. I'm no good with ubuntu problems... I figured you probably tried that already, but thought I would ask just in case.... (while there maybe see if any devs might want a side project to help with, too bad PIVX does not have a good GUI/Graphics guy[last I checked] someone to help spruce up your wallet [PIVX wallet could use some sprucing up too])...

I remember I had to put Staking=1 in the configuration file. I dont know if this was made the default behaviour in the recent client release.

I was just coming on here to suggest that. I *think* I recall the devs saying it's not needed anymore, but I still have it in my conf from way back and I've never had an issue staking.

I have

Code:
addnode=blahblahblah
bantime=50
staking=1

Worth a shot, I guess, even if it's not supposed to be needed.

Yes I have staking=1 there too... This whole time. Like I mentioned above, it all worked at some point. But at some point, I did a git pull and compiled the wallet and I guess it wasnt the stable version.

But now I am using the precompiled binaries, so that shouldnt be a problem.

Yesterday I wiped the datadir, leaving only the wallet.dat. Resync. Unlock wallet. Still "staking not active".

Edit:
Is it possible that there is a bug in the getinfo output?

getstakingstatus returns
Code:
{
    "validtime" : true,
    "haveconnections" : true,
    "walletunlocked" : true,
    "mintablecoins" : true,
    "enoughcoins" : true,
    "mnsync" : true
}

So all good I guess...

Only with getinfo I get this:

Code:
"staking status" : "Staking Not Active",

It can be a VPS thing, eg if you're on an OpenVZ container with less than 1GB memory then the host can kill the process if it uses "too much" RAM.  How much RAM have you got, and do you know the VPS host platform?
