How does the Pivx team answer the issue of quantum resistance?

Quantum computing is not even a reality yet, any project that states is quantum resistant is selling you air. It's not even possible to be known at the moment.

PIVx, as you can tell, thrives on being realistic.

Don't feed the troll - Myriad Force has been longtime in Lisk Bitcointalk and suddenly changed mind and fudded all along. Expect this to happen here aswell

Most interesting part is the conversion from Piv to zPiv



edit: as mentioned by Fuzzballs - 3.0 is a Mandatory Upgrade - till 16th October is time to upgrade.

After 16th older wallets won't mint and secure the network anymore and have to update + make a full resync.

Due to security reasons always check any downloaded wallets with the checksums from the Developer. (e.g. electrum-ltc delivers MD5 and SHA256 hashes)

With PivX, the developer hosts the  SHA256SUMS.asc file. Download it and run your hashing programm to check whether the pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.zip is fully downloaded and unmodified.




on Linux:

open a terminal within the Download folder where pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.tar.gz + SHA256SUMS.asc are and type:  

    sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.asc

and the whole file checks for valid files, at the end should be written that your downloaded pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.tar.gz is OK (just ignore the missing files)


or type in terminal:

     sha256sum  pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.tar.gz

and check the output with your wallet in the SHA256SUMS.asc file manually.



on Mac

      shasum -a 256 pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.tar.gz

and check your output hash manually within the SHA256SUMS.asc file




on Windows


as I know Windows should have CertUtil preinstalled (hope this works still)


Usage description: CertUtil [Options] -hashfile InFile [HashAlgorithm]


CertUtil -hashfile C:\pivx-3.0.0.-wallet.zip SHA256

or download a checksum programme like quick-hash-gui etc...

Check your anti-virus/malware remover.

Some files are unsigned so your anti-virus might be deleting the installation.

Either add an exception in the anti-virus for PIVx or simply disable it while loading the wallet.

This sounds more like a corrupted blockchain database? 

On a mac it should be here:  /Users//Library/Application\ Support/PIVX 

Ensure you backup your wallet.dat and then you could try renaming this folder to get PIVX to start a new one and see if it's starting properly afterward.  If so, let it sync and then restore the wallet.dat to the new folder to get your coin balance back.

Check your anti-virus/malware remover.

Better is to unnistall the AV first , install the PIVX wallet , scan the system , apply an exception to the PIVX wallet and voila , it will work.

Like the post above me said , some files can be seen by the AV like a virus , malware , etc. Disabling while loading the wallet is not a good ideea because it can get block after so better just follow the first steps and it will work for you don't you worry.

No token sale?  Not sure where that came from... unless you are referring to the fact that on the 16th of October PIVX will have zPIV (which is just a fully anonomyzed PIV...that you can use/send/spend to maintain your financial transaction private).

If you don't upgrade, any staking/masternoding that you do after zPIV implementation will be on the wrong fork and therefore invalid. So if you want to continue staking/masternoding, then yes, you must upgrade now. If you don't care about staking (e.g. if you hold your PIVX offline) then you can wait if you want; you won't lose your existing coins. But to do anything with them in the future you'd need to upgrade anyway. Basically, you should upgrade now unless you a) hold your PIVX offline and b) are very lazy.

By holding on an exchange you're unable to receive rewards, but I assume you're OK with that. If you're asking whether you'll lose access to your PIVX after zPIV implementation if you leave them on the exchange, the answer is 'it depends'. Since you're on Bittrex, and Bittrex is generally on top of these things, you are 99.9% fine. If you had them on e.g. Yobit, you'd probably be screwed since they take forever to update wallets (if they do it at all). That said, even if an exchange was slow to update its wallets, you would regain access as soon as they eventually got around to updating.

I guess the broader point is that by holding your coins on an exchange, you're putting your fate in someone else's hands. Bittrex is trustworthy so it's not a big deal, but the only way you can be 100% certain is to hold them in a wallet for which you control the private key.

I hope there is someone with the same issue I am having right now.

With the pivxd update 3.0 my wallet just closes after ~30 seconds , I tried to resynch it (deleting all old files) which completed (after running pivxd 100 times).

But it just wont keep running therefor I cannot stake anymore... SAD.
