Those and other philosophers like them are the foundation of all science. You can't have proper science without a proper philosophy of science. And to have a proper philosophy of science you need to have some key advancements in epistemology in place.
Alright, to play along with you in this, guess what comes before, what takes precedence to, epistemology? It's ontology. Most of us started out from the wrong ontological starting point, hence we are epistemologically operating on a false assumption: the illusion of separation, or Maya, the idea that there is an objective reality that is separate from "self", that the experiencer and the experienced are separate entities... that you are not God. There is no outside to existence. It's easy to discover this thanks to the liberation of access to information sources enabled by the Internet, something which those authors didn't have... hence "pre-Internet" is a very useful distinction to make.
Btw, how "free" is your mind if you're afraid to read this stuff? If anyone else talked like that to you wouldn't you be worried?
Afraid to read? I'm not suggesting you don't read those authors; I'm suggesting that there exists a deliberate agenda to make you believe that those sources, and not modern/contemporary sources with access to the Internet, are what are relevant to your understanding of yourself (no, not "the world", but yourself). There are many religions that we are led to buy into, Abrahamic religion being a minor one compared to statism and scientism.

They were smart people. There are even smarter people around now, but you aren't paying attention to them because other very smart people have managed to make it seem to you that there aren't very smart people around anymore. Does this idea make sense to you?
Yeah, Icke is absolutely correct, and it takes only a little more than elementary research to figure that much out. Took me less than a year to get to that point (after an initial awakening), and at that time I was believing that Icke must be some kind of disinformation agent because of the reptilian stuff, hahaha.
