Gambling is not a sickness but a decease that ruins someone lives...
Too much gambling makes a person do bad habits by not being able to do what he have to do as a normal person...
So if you have gambling addiction you better need some help...

I think sickness is used for things that are making bad effects to ones self or to society,
and decease is used to tell that a person is sick in a medical term,

So I believed that sickness and illness is far more appropriate to use,
rather that decease,
by the way you are correct in terms of the effects of gambling in an addicted persons lives,
so every gambler should be aware f this so as to prevent further distraction into their lives,
in a way of social destruction, emotional, and more.

There are some who say that those who spend too much time on the internet or too much time on their cell phones are sick also.  It seems like everything can be considered a sickness now days....If one is too lazy one is dysfunctional....If one works too hard, one is a workaholic....too messy is a hoarder, too organized is obsessive compulsive....sad people have depression.....giddy people have anxiety....what's not a sickness?

Even if you are not an addicted gambler, it would still affect you as long as you are gambling... I think the sick part of a gambler is the part when they are like fool, betting too big thinking that they could win big, knowing the chance in there is smaller then keeps on doing the same mistake til the time your bankroll was empty, that's foolishness.

I don't think gambling should be considered a sickness....I think that it's a symptom of some other condition that just expresses itself in habitual gambling.  Like having a nagging wife.  But, I may be in denial because I love gambling!  I don't do bad because I've acquired the skills necessary to compete on the poker table....but I do spend a great deal of time on the felt....but, mostly to stay away from my grumpy wife because I really don't need the money anymore!

i know some people like you might will just deny on this statement saying gambling are just a sickness , you just gamble for the sake of fun and in the name of skills only for most regular poker player. still people like you have less number than people who think gambling are a sickness.

Then if you don't think that gambling addiction is not a sickness then you can consider that as worst than syndrome. I guess that is the most supreme type of sickness.

But there are also good types of addiction in gambling if you are making it your living then that is not sickness because it makes you to survive a day.

Just like those professional poker players they are competing in tournaments and earning millions of dollars.

looks like we just live in the different world , when he think gamble are really for the sake of fun and he even did not care about money because he really did it he play poker for years and have a real pleasure without involving money as a target.

Some gamblers have almost instant addiction to gambling. But if you do not addicted to gambling straight away, that does not mean you are not going to be. In fact, half of the addicted gambler become addicted after a prolong duration after visiting the casino. So if you are not addicted now, you may still get addicted in the future and you need to be aware of such danger/sickness.

You are right, due to gambling addiction people are having excessive gambling resulting in as a sickness to them. Due to this sickness, they are losing their responsibility about his own health and wealth and also about his family's welfare.

Well, a possibility is that maybe he saw a family or friend fall into disgrace because of gambling addiction and maybe that is why he thinks that way, I have known people that had family members suffer from alcoholism and they have very strong stances against alcohol.

Although in gambling we can still apply the sayings that life is a gamble, because life is a gamble we need to play it right in order to win, and in gambling there are also method to play it right in order for us to win, therefore we should do that.
