TDLR steward dismissed the appel from Redbull against Hamilton for the "weak" penalty for the accident caused 2 weeks ago.

Source: https://twitter.com/MercedesAMGF1/status/1420814770597466118

It didn't make me surprised. I wasn't expecting an extra penalty for the incident. Maybe Hamilton caused the incident, maybe not. But I'm sure of one thing that he really deserved to win the race with his huge effort. He came back from a huge gap and managed to win. Leclerc had nothing to do against him I'm afraid.

@ILuckyGuyI this was just a mind game tactic to intimidate Hamilton, but such a petty trick didn’t work and it’s a fair decision in my personal opinion. Also Hamilton showed that it’s foolishness to count him out a race till it’s over, hence I feel that he may keep fighting for the title till the very end.

It's good that the affair between Hamilton and Verstappen is finally over.

This weekend, motorsport finally gets back underway with the Formula 1 race in Hungary. The track in Hungary is a rather slow circuit and should suit the Red Bull, possibly also the Ferrari. But only Verstappen or Hamilton have a chance of winning?

Yes, as expected there was no new evidence, and the appeal was dismissed. Red Bull aren't stupid and must have known this would happen... in which case, why do it? Perhaps they were trying mind games on Hamilton, or just trying to support Max. It didn't seem to work on Hamilton, who remained uninvolved and seems more focused on Hungary's gender/homosexuality laws this week.

The whole response has been weird. Hamilton was judged 'predominantly' to blame by the stewards when it happened... they are very precise with their wording, and predominantly is not wholly. It was perfectly evident to anyone watching that Max simply tried to take Lewis out. There have been many other overtakes at this corner, and no other driver does this kamikaze cut in. Foolishness is an important word, too. Regardless of the extent to which Hamilton was judged at fault, the fact remains that Max could have avoided the crash, protected his championship lead, and in all probability have overtaken Lewis later on to even win the race. Instead he refused to give an inch, and decided that he would take the racing line regardless of whether or not there was already another car in his way. Even if the stewards had said Lewis was totally to blame, Max could still have chosen to avoid the crash.

It's good that the affair between Hamilton and Verstappen is finally over.

I'm not sure it is over. I don't think Max is mature enough to let this go. He's a great driver, and very fast, but this weekend will be a big test of his professionalism.

Uhm , I wouldn't not call Hungarian circuit a boring one as we had some really nice fights here in the last years so maybe we have the chance to see another good one Sunday.

I saw the FP2 and it looked like Mercedes came with something new as the car was much more balanced but I still don't see them winning the race just because in the last years RedBull with a weaker car always had some epic battles here and wins. Now , with a better car than last year, Verstappen should be on pole-position and also win the race.

Are you sure Cheesy?
I can't remember a fun Gp in Hungary ever and I watch F1 for more than 20 years now.

Anyway look at the weather Sainz said, are they expecting rain? Cool

By themselves, the recent events between Hamilton and Verstappen promise a fun Grand Prix Grin Another question is that it is impossible to speculate in advance whether this scenario will come true. There is no doubt that if both cars have similar speed characteristics, then bright events are waiting for us, because after all that has happened, neither Hamilton nor Verstappen will give way to each other even if they are wrong. But if some car will have an overwhelming advantage, then we can really see a rather boring race. Therefore, we will hope for a sharp fight between the leaders and that the second numbers of the teams will also interfere in the fight. At the very least, Bottas needs to prove his need for the team before the end of the summer.

According to the FP1 and FP2 results, Bottas seems to be very assertive in this event. We have the FP3 and the qualifying session tomorrow. And I feel like Bottas will take the pole position or end the session at the 2nd place. But I would really like to see Verstappen taking the pole. If he manages to do it, I think it's very likely that he can win the race also. And he really needs this win after the last incidents in the Britain GP.

I'm with you, the Hungarian Grand Prix has been boring the last few years, with almost no overtaking and a slow pace. Possibly a change of weather will make the Grand Prix interesting this weekend.

Yeah, of course. I just meant that whilst the official investigation is over, the fallout from the crash will no doubt continue for a while. I'm very interested to see how Max responds this weekend, and whether he takes a more measured approach the next time he comes head to head with Lewis.
Max is of course still the championship favourite, but he could become destabilised as the sport is mental as well as physical; he does seem to still be fixated on the incident, and feels aggrieved. This weekend is key. For him to maintain his championship advantage, he needs to remain cool. The fight for the world championship is not over, of course, but the disputes over the accident are now officially closed.

He is more mature now than a few years ago, but this is a crucial learning point in his first championship fight. It may get nasty, as with Hamilton/Rosberg.

I also had to think about the Hamilton vs. Rosberg battle, Rosberg once said it is very difficult to fight with Hamilton for the world championship, so not only on the track but also in the head. That's why he retired after his world championship title. Hamilton will do everything possible to get Verstappen off the track and that with all possibilities that might not be completely fair.

Yup it now really feels like 2018 all over again.  Lol.  But we’ll see what happens in the race tomorrow.  First few laps will obv be crucial for Verstappen.  He’s gonna start with the soft tire so that’s two pit stops.  Hamilton will start with the mediums, prolly just one pit stop depending on how they react to RBR.

Hamilton qualified at the first attempt in the third period of testing. In the second attempt, the condition of the track changed and Verstappen was the only one who managed to improve his time, but he was not enough to advance further.
But Verstappen will start Sunday's race using a different strategy than the Mercedes pair. Verstappen will start the race on soft tires against medium for Hamilton and Bottas.
It will be interesting to see if Red Bull goes for one stop soft to hard for the rest of the race but they say there is a chance to have rain so that can mix things up and as always Red Bull made a mistake that prevented Perez from making his second attempt by delaying to inform the Mexican driver that testing was over before he crossed the starting line. But the Austrian team was fortunate that the other drivers did not improve their times.

^  I’m not really sure why but that first attempt by Hamilton at Q3 was def a perfect lap.  Hamilton came out fastest in all sectors with those soft tires.  But he’s starting with the mediums and Verstappen the softs.  So Verstappen prolly has a chance on going up a couple of notches before going for that first pit stop.

For me it's a very surprising result, I didn't think that Mercedes is so strong in Hungary, even Bottas is ahead of Verstappen. Were there any updates at Mercedes after the break?

Now I am even more curious about the race, although the Hungarian track is rather boring and overtaking is almost impossible, without weather influence or safty car the race will end like the qualifying.

It was surprising for me as well but it was due to the temperature on the circuit that made the cars slower so those times couldn't be beat even if Max was catching a super time in that lap which did not happen for both Hamilton and Max.

Tomorrow race will be another story as there is some high chances for a storm on the racing time and Hungaroring on water would bring some chaos with those tight corners. Who do you count on guys ? Max , Ham ? Or could Bottas or Perez surprise us ?

I was also hearing about this rain forecast for the race and Sainz was also talking about it but looking among the forecast in the worst or best case (depending on the point of view) it will cloudy with a maximum of 20% rain.

Even if it rains it will be a fight between MAX and Lewis but at least it will be fun.
