You could use a copy of cgminer folder with a different name for instance.

its difficult to point one worker per stick if they are all on same hub

i guess if you are on windows you can use .//com1 or however for bfgminer, but it will change each time bfgminer is started and its impossible to tell what stick it is..


my sticks are on the R1 and there is no way to run them separate.

My vote would be to keep it as single sticks, has worked well for antrun and makes comparisons much easier.

Well you can have as many sticks as you want they do not share work, they process their own shares.

They're managed independently by the software (cg/bfg miner).

So in the end I don't think it makes any difference

That's one way to do it. On Linux, you could use aliases too.
On Windows, just start multiple command line windows of cgminer.

just gotta mod one of my 5 compacs with a stupid big heatsink and fire up a separate cgminer-gekko instance for this. its all running on a rPi B and a superbpag 70 watt hub.

my 5 just laze around at 16 ghs each with a 120mm pointed in their general direction. Ill crank one up and point it here.

Here we go:

This instructions may are only usable on a Debian system. Raspbian would work just fine. You may know some parts of what I'm describing here already. I dont want to offend you. Just pick the info you need.

I'm not using Minera or other webinterfaces, just cgminer itself. Bfgminer should work too. Maybe there are some different starting parameters... For connecting to the individual cgminer-screens, I'm using a software called 'screen'. You will find info about screen on Google. I set up all cgminer commands I want to use as aliases.


First, install screen:

sudo apt-get install screen

Second, create all aliases:

Open the file ~/.bashrc, insert your aliases and specify all the start parameters. My file looks like this:

alias cgminer-start-g1="cd /opt/cgminer-gekko && sudo screen -dmS cgminer-g1 ./cgminer --usb 1:4 --compac-freq 162.5 -o stratum+tcp://de.ckpool.org:3333 -u 1LF2fmvVCbUV3WqXagf8RMzZHmEUvyfPwH_G1 -p 1234"

These aliases will start a cgminer instance with the specified USB devices (--usb parameter) and set up a screen session. Change the BTC address to one of your own addresses!    Here you have a list in post #1 with the possible frequency rates: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173963.0

Blue:	Alias name
Brown:	Path to cgminer binary
Red:	Screen name
--usb	Device selection
Green:	Worker extension

You can print a list of all devices if you start cgminer (with no --usb parameter selected, so that every connected device is used) an press the key 'U', then 'L'.


Now insert all screen aliases to ~/.bashrc:

alias cgminer-g2="screen -x cgminer-g2"
alias cgminer-g3="screen -x cgminer-g3"
alias cgminer-g4="screen -x cgminer-g4"

As before, blue is the alias name and red the screen name.


Save the file, exit the text editor and execute the following command to reload all aliases:

source ~/.bashrc

Third, start it!  


Starting a specific cgminer instance:

cgminer-start-g1

Connecting to the screen a specific cgminer instance:

cgminer-g1

Important notes about screen:
If you are watching a process over screen, don't press CTRL + C to exit or 'screen' will pass the key combination to cgminer and it will stop to mine instead of leaving the screen session. Always detach safely from a screen session with the key cobination CTRL + A and then CTRL + D.
Also, don't connect to a started screen immediately. After you started a cgminer instance just wait 10 to 20 seconds before connecting to the screen session. Cgminer has to be startet and initialized completely, otherwise it may crash or freeze.

If your using a Pi, install screen as above and then just edit the /etc/rc.local file and add before "exit 0" line

As many times as you want, I don't know if there is a limit to where it will start messing with the pi or not?

The pi will start to mine as soon as it is booted or reboots from a power outage (as long as you don't have to cycle the power on your hub after a power outage).

Then use putty to connect to the pi and screen to see cgminer/s.

Sorry that you did loose your previous bestshare (and first place), but I'm sure you will find it even more interessting with separated devices. It's just much more going on in the standings. Secondly, every time a block is found on ckpool, the bestshare gets resetted and the race starts again

If you start cgminer with the "--api-listen" option, it will listen on a
simple TCP/IP socket for single string API requests from the same machine
running cgminer and reply with a string and then close the socket each time
If you add the "--api-network" option, it will accept API requests from any
network attached computer.

You can only access the comands that reply with data in this mode.
By default, you cannot access any privileged command that affects the miner -
you will receive an access denied status message see --api-allow below.

You can specify IP addresses/prefixes that are only allowed to access the API
with the "--api-allow" option e.g. --api-allow W:192.168.0.1,10.0.0/24
will allow 192.168.0.1 or any address matching 10.0.0.*, but nothing else
IP addresses are automatically padded with extra '.0's as needed
Without a /prefix is the same as specifying /32
0/0 means all IP addresses.
The 'W:' on the front gives that address/subnet privileged access to commands
that modify cgminer (thus all API commands)

--api-port 4001 : changes the default port 4028 to something unique
--api-listen allows this instance of cgminer to be queried
--api-allow W:192.168.1/24: allow anything on this network 192.168.1.* to send command to modify cgminer: change pool, restart, stop,... ==>> W = Write

Looks like a block was found this morning so everyone's bestshare was reset. That adds a kind of fun twist. Sort of like a nuke that starts everything over.

Of course the bestever value is still there. But since that value could span a period before the race, maybe that shouldn't count.

In my case I used a new BTC address for the race, so all of my stats are new instead of historic.

I have bolted my Compac onto a CPU cooler, board above it is a fan Controller. I am connected direct to a PC running cgminer, just too many many problems controlling it from the R1,  and have spliced a separate 5V PSU into the feed so we are not current limited.



I have been running at 375MHz for 24 Hours now without problem, but get some HW errors at 400MHz so need to change the value of the series resistor on the Core Voltage pot as I have run out of adjustment and need to go above 0.75V to carry on up in frequency. Temperature is at the set 35 Deg C and there is fan speed in hand so that should not be a limiting factor.

What I wanna say was, that the USB-Meter could be a limiter if you try to screw up the Vcore and the freq....

@Resistor/Pot: not sure, I have not checked it so far...
I guess it works in the same way like our Antrouter TPS53355 Mod?
So I think, you have only to put a extra 10k pulldown resistor from the pod to ground to increase the Vcore limit...
I´ll take a close look to it tomorrow...

yes, thats really an issue ...
The power consumption is depend on which kind of Peltier-Modul you use..
There are a couple of different sizes, Cooling/Heating power and prices on the market.

I´ve used the most available and inexpensive 40x40 Peltier with 12V and 6A max
It´s hard, ´cause  it´s finally a max. Powerconsumption of ~72 Watts, but as used in my setup and regulated via controller
my Powermeter shows me max ~ 50W for Peltier & Fan together.

But it was only a first try, there are smaller Peltier-Modules with lower consumption (and higher prices ) on the market.
Next step will be to try it with a more efficient Module...  

On the other side I have digged up an older project of me, where a miner could be completely supplied via a selfmade solarpower solution
So I´ll take an other R1 of me soon to upgrade this and give it a try for a "Green-IT nature-friendly mining solution"

My modified USB extension lead that I had patched 5V into burnt up Yesterday, so ran overnight on the 2nd Compac at 200MHz. Have just done a better job of connecting the 5V directly to the contacts on the USB socket so should be ok this time. 

Good news is that the improved 5V supply seems to be allowing operation at 400MHz without HW errors with a Core Voltage of 0.78V which is the max I can get to without changing a resistor. So will run at that for 24Hrs and see how we go?

400??  Blimey, im just managing to get mine running at 260m and being stable lol  already got it running on a usb Y-splitter, contemplating getting another one to daisy chain it so it picks up 3 ports on the hub. Reckon that will make much of a difference?

Depending on your vcore, the stick can draw a lot.

The 7 ports superbpag is 5V/12A: 60W !

As I use 6 sticks, I get 10W/port.

I max it at 300Mhs....

Well its only a 2.5 amp power supply to the hub. But last time i measured to amp draw it was 1.2 amp at 250m. All 6 ports (4 data and power, 2 charging) are rated at 500ma when its connected to a computer. Alternatively ive seen a 12v usb buck coveter down to 5v and 2A rating. I can hook that up to my breakout board on my psu and running a decent supply from there.

I soldered an Power connector for my 5V/10A supply directly on the Gekko PCB (see picture below) and insert an diode in the 5V+ Line from PC-USB cable (to prevent a backflow from PS to PC)..



Running now at 450MHz


It takes about 20 ~ 21 Watts

If you want to use a hub I would just buy the cheapest USB 2 hub you can find and cut the 5V trace & inject your own 5V. I have a couple that I randomly bought off ebay and both of them have an easily found and cuttable track in them.

Yes RichBC G1 did good in the last Round, but seems to be dragging it's heels in this one. I must get round to squeezing up a bit in frequency, but need to change a resistor value and want to fit a multiturn Pot for more control over the Core Voltage first. My 5V supply and Cooling should take a bit more, but may also then need to change the inductor?

I used my R1 as a gecko controller and it worked until I cranked up the freq. My R1 hasn't been the same since

The onboard 10k pot goes from ground in chain with a ~10k resistor to the TPS51219 voltage regulator.
alle what you have to do is to remove the 10k res and replace it with a 17k or 20k resistor .

Same things happens to me  !!
The problem seem to be, that vcore drops down for a moment after starting cgminer...
In the most cases, the vcore vary after start and than it goes to zero.
I have to plug out and in, and fiddle around with the vcore value and after a lot of unplugs an replugs
it begins to hash.

But when it runs, than it´s perfect, stable and w/o any probs!
No zombie or other issues...

Little Hint: to prevent overheating of TPS 51219, I've added an small Alu-Cooler on the backside.

Also I wonder if the ramp is designed to prevent problems of current taken from the 5V / Hub and we are seeing problems with current taken from the Buck Converter? Although I would have thought a ramp would have helped both.

Another question is that I have read that the ramp is as long as 4 Minutes and yet my Vcore without load typically sits at 0.8V and as soon as the hashing starts properly it drops to 0.77V there is no gradual change, so am not sure I am seeing the ramp?


Either way it is worthy of further investigation or perhaps a question to novak?

hmm, thats strange,
I got this similar probs with my Ant R1 @ frequencies more than 400MHz.
it stops w/o any error, i have only to restart cgminer (not the whole Antrouter R1) and it runs again..

But my Gekko runs stable @450MHz w/o any issues.
I´ve used Novak´s custom cgminer win32-Version on a Win10-System (Asus eeePC) netbook.
(The stops you can see in my stats@gekkorun are only manually )

Yes it's strange... they're headless, so I have no choice but power off/on.
I had the problem on a gibagyte brix/Ubuntu and the rpi/raspbian.

I have a lattepanda running win10, maybe I'll give that one a go.
Although there's  more logistics as I have to relocate everything.

Hmm, maybe it´s an idea to ask novak.

The TPS51219 is able to manage about 20A, so I think it´s not the bottleneck/reason...
But I discovered, the regulator runs suspiciously hot w/o a sufficient cooling..

After thinking a while (and do a little math) , I see the TPS could be the cause anyway...

The Gekko has a power consumption about ~ 21- 22Watts@450MHz
If I deduct the power loss of all "Non-ASIC"-Components there could be finally a power consumption about 18-19Watts:

19W / 0.9V = ~ 21,1A

So I suspect very strongly, the buck-converter could be the cause anyway...

The datasheet offers also a 1Volt and a 1.05Volt stable fixed mode.
Maybe to switch it in the 1V fixed mode could be an option,
with a little drop while running, maybe down to 0.95V it could works?

So I bought another gekko (bitshopper.de) to run along with my rboxs. Its a newer one (#100000566) so hoping I can play with the freqs more.

As for my first gekko (also bitshopper.de #10000031) shes now being retired to the gekko race  

Will only be running stock usb power on and off as Im not having my laptop on all the time (hence the purchase of a raspi to run to the other stuff  )

Minera will still be usable

I've mentioned this before, but it's possible use the "--balance" option in the "Manual options" section of Minera. The trick is that you also need to specify as many pool entries as you have workers. The downside is you can't specify a failover pool.

So if Morguk has two sticks (for example), then he'd specify two pool entries, both for the solo pool but with different workers (so they show up separately in the race).

It's lazy, I admit, but it does work. This is what I'm doing currently with my two sticks.

The stickminer will enumerate as an antminer U3 on cgminer (if the version of cgminer you're using supports the U3), and should run fine.  It may give warnings about "no valid hashes within 3 seconds" but this is fine, as the U3 has a higher hashrate, confusing cgminer but not noticeably affecting performance.  If your hardware errors are low you're fine.  These older version of cgminer do not allow a clock rate over 250MHz.  This is pretty good for most people as that's moderately high power but in theory the chips will run up to 500MHz. 

Luke Jr added bfgminer support in bfgminer 5.3.0, so you may use that version of bfgminer.

I (novak) have written a cgminer driver which enumerates the compacs as expected, removes the error, and ramps up the clock slowly to prevent spikes on USB power.  My custom cgminer can be found here:

EDIT: The current version supports bitshopper compacs as well, and can be (and is, in the case of windows) compiled with icarus support.

I have not yet tested it but edonkey was nice enough to upload a custom minera image with cgminer-gekko enabled as a custom miner.  You can set the frequency under manual options as: --compac-freq 150.  Link:

On the engineering sample sticks you can only use old cgminer as the newer drivers for both cgminer and bfgminer depend on a hexfile flashed to the cp2102 which the engineering samples do not have.

If you need to run cgminer on windows (either stock or mine), you'll need to install the zadig driver.  You can find it here:

Run the program and install the winusb driver for the compac(s) that you have plugged into your windows machine.  You may need to replug the compacs afterwards while cgminer is running to get them to start mining.

I think, all what you have to do is:

1. run cgminer with all gekkos
2. press "U" (for USB devices)
3. there you´ll see a list of all devices, e.g. three device like this:

1:4 Gekko xyz
1:7 Gekko xyz
1:8 Gekko xyz

4. Now stop the cgminer and attach an each Gekko the proper USB-Bus value, in this form:

--usb 1:4
--usb 1:7
--usb 1:8

Now you´re able to start all your gekkos,
every in a single run...

when it runs over its limit, than you´ll see only a empty page,
instead your stats.

I don't know why, but it seems zOU 4 is luckier than the other zOU units.  Like my earlmo 2 gets bigger numbers than earlmo 1.  Yeah, probably not as easy to notice with only two miners.  I've had my eye on zOU 4 for a while now.

I had to restart the sticks as 2 (2/6) were running at 10/12Ghs instead of 16Ghs.
Don't know why as they all run at 300Mhs, but sometimes it happens...

it didn't prevent stick #2 to claim the 3rd spot anyway, proof that Luck > Ghs :p

you can see that sticks 2 and 6 have a lower Ghs/week

Hi mates,

because I just saw, that zOU also faced the same stat issue, like me and kipper before  (-> getting an empty page, instead of stats),
so I get in touch with minibit (the the guy behind the gekkorun and antrun code )
 He is very busy, but he droped me a line with some hints to fix that prob.

Btw, the "-> More Stats" Option of antrun.de is also affected.

So I hope I can fix it soon.

that what kipper wants to say, is he got only an empty page instead his own detailed statistics...

I got this problem too a couple of weeks ago with my ants,
so I was asking minibit and ami1984.

It´s an problem with the code, there is a memory limit in the database,
when it runs over its limit, than you´ll see only a empty page,
instead your stats.

I can try to contact minibit (think he is able to fix this Prob),
but not sure if he wants (or can) take the time for it...

And I dunno how I missed the 1.15G share by JeffZwolle or when he pulled that one out, but that's one of only a handful of >1G shares I know of from these sticks, nice one!

Fun-Run doesn´t mean: without any rules!

One physical miner (GekkoScience Compac only, no U3 or others!) = one single worker

Using more than one miner at the same worker address isn´t allowed @Gekkorun as well @Antrun !

Not sure whats going wrong with your erlmo2, but it seems definately your turn (wrong config /setup).

So please check your configuration and separate your Gekkos in two single worker again (or
if your only and primary goal is to reach a best share ever on CK-solopool with multiple Gekkos @the same address , than
please leave the Fun-Run community and do it outside please.

i guess if you are on windows you can use .//com1 or however for bfgminer, but it will change each time bfgminer is started and its impossible to tell what stick it is..

I´m 50/50 about.
One side I think, it should be a pure gekko contest, with the same conditions for every runner,

in the future.

Hi Mike, just I´m in NYC for a few days but when I´m back in germany I´ll try to define
some ideas and rules for a "new" Gekkorun site.

My second idea is, to migrate also all active Antrunners to gekkorun.

(The reason therefore is, that the founder of antrun left the community last year, and I have absolutely no access
to the antrun site, that means no way to fix some bugs or something else, but I´m able to access
the gekkorun site ( because I´m the owner and it´s under my administration))

But back to your question:
I think, if we open the gekkorun for other small miners (e.g. Ant R1, 2PAC, Bitfury),
every single miner should be also named by it.

Maybe like that:

andymanone ANTR 1
andymanone G 1
andymanone 2PAC 1
andymanone BF 1


But like said, when I´m back home, I´ll try share my thoughts about it with you, guys .

Every ideas and feedbacks are very welcome of course , but keep in mind, I´m not
a programmer, I´ve only some beginner skills to administrate the site and to fix some bugs.

Btw.:
I´ve very limited contact/access to minibit (he is the programmer and the owner of the code).

Like already announce a couple of days before,
we´ll merge the antrun.de and the gekkorun.de websites
to one single site (-> gekkorun.de).


Things, that we´ve planned to do:

1. Moving all ACTIVE Antrun-Members to gekkorun.de (except all (long term) INACTIVE Antrun-Members!)

2. Rename all Active Antrunner, e.g like this:
   Before: andymanone 1 , andymanone 2, andymanone 3
   After: andymanone ANTR1 , andymanone ANTR2, andymanone ANTR3

3. Removing all (long term) INACTIVE Gekkorun-Members

4. Rename all active Gekko-Runners to get a clear distinction between all miners
   e.g. like this:
  Before: Mikestang
   After: Mikestang G1

5. open the Race finally for all new Gekkoscience 2Pac Miners and the coming soon Bitfury Miners from sidehack

This work is planned for the coming soon weekend (03/18/17 - 03/19/17).

If there is anyone with a Offline ANT R1 or a Gekko, but is interested in coming back online,
so please leave me a mesage and I will bear that in mind.

Finally some words:
It´s primary a fun race for all enthusiasts of course , but the following rules also apply soon:

The problem is, thats not my code (the software code is from the community member "minibit", but he is very busy and off now and left this project ).

Unfortunately I´ve very limited skills in php and mysql programming, so I´m only able (in a autodidactically way) to administrate the site and the users,
but to renew or reprogramming the site is a formidable challenge for me....

@ the G1, G2  etc naming:
Its easy to explain :
If a user is sending more than one racer to the challange, it will be named  "Miner+1"

See below:

1. Gekkoscience Compac:  G1, G2, G3, G4, Gx
2. Antrouter R1:  A1, A2, A3, A4, Ax
3. Gekkoscience 2PAC:  G2P1, G2P2, G2P3, G2P4, G2Px
4. Sidehack BF Miner:  SBF1, SBF2, SBF3, SBF4, SBFx

Maybe i´ll try to learn more about php / mysql soon, so I can make more improvements on the gekkorun.de site.

there is an bigger issue with the database refresh on gekkorun, but I can´t fix it themself.
So I was asking minibit (the guy who was creating the code therefore) to help me to fix it.
He will, but he is very busy at the moment.

Unfortunately, I´m depend on "minibit" to help me to fix the code issues.

It seems to me, that ck has made some changes for the solo ckpool a couple of time ago,
so the gekkorun site isn´t able, to refresh all statistics in the proper way.

thx for your feedback - yes I recognised this changes too a couple of days ago,
and changed the path in the gekkorun code, but it only works for a single instance w/o  a worker name.

So you´ll see just the moment only eight runners on gekkorun, all eight are single instances w/o a worker address (only BTC address).

But we work on it...

Any chance that you can incorporate CK's other pool in this comparison?  I have my gekkos pointed to pool.ckpool.org instead of solo.ckpool.org.

I suppose that a block found on one pool would not reset the stats for those mining on the other, so that would have to be dealt with in some manner.  Since it is mainly about comparison and friendly competition, it may not matter to most of the participants.

The answers to your questions can all be found by asking sidehack here on the forum. The problem is that the design is his and not in the public domain. sidehack is not producing any more of the original one BM1384 chip USB stick miners known as the "Compac", but occasionally you can find them for sale on eBay, amazon, and on the forsale forum on this board.

sidehack has been producing two BM1384 chip USB stick miners known as the 2Pac. Check the message:

It´s an problem with the code, there is a memory limit in the database,
when it runs over its limit, than you´ll see only a empty page,
instead your stats.

Maybe the invisible one should sneak off and earn some dust on a non-solo pool. At $8k+ a bitcoin it might be worth it.

To be honest, I think gekkorun.de has been borked* for a lot longer than that. Besides, with BTC at current levels (9706 USD/BTC), even the dust mined by the Compac has value.
