Either have the host access it or remote in and drop its speed a bit. Bet it is happy again.

I have a b1, 2x b3's, and 2x b5's. Initially the B1 and 3's ran at OEM speed but a while back I had to drop their speed by 50MHz or so because 1 board was starting to drop out from time to time. The b5's are still running full speed with zero problems after all this time...

edit: Oh, if in North America, use Bitmain Warranty in CO. Way better and easier/cheaper to ship to.

Indeed. It also doesn't seem to do _anything_ per-run - it's just validating the speeds stored in the PIC allow the card to hash sensibly.

It is possible to force it to recalibrate itsself, but apparently that's a support call to BitMain where they add your specific MAC to 'the list' and it gets to run their utility, which presumably does some sort of encrypted communication to the mothership.

Interesting that the non-autotuned boards all show a static clock speed. I have one of these in my autotuning miner and was wondering the cause - it would seem that this might just have been old stock boards.

A hardreset will also trigger the autotune re-calibration as will a change in the controller file system (can't remember the file off the top of my head).

Was selling a few s7's on eBay.
Turns out that there is a drop ship company in Newcastle DE that buyers out of the country send to.
At that point the item can be shipped all over the world.
Then the buyer will ask for a return or more items than were actually purchased.
So be careful with buyers with a Newcastle DE shipping address.
eBay knows about this scam and location.

How does this drop ship scam work?

I just sold some items in the US on Amazon to a Canadian buyer who is using drop ship in Portland, Oregon. Should I be concerned about a possible scam?
I think Amazon is different than eBay, more protections.
eBay buyer protection is invalid with dropship.
If there is a problem it is harder to resolve.

if u buy on ebay , u need to trust the person who sell u.
buy high price like miner go amazon better , will feel more secure.

So it has emerged that Antpool S9 miners (and others) have ASICBOOST functionality built in. Does anyone know a pool that already supports it, other than antpool?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/63yo27/some_circumstantial_evidence_supporting_the_claim/

Until this is patched we should all be using it to level the paying field somewhat and as a way of maximizing revenue. According to some reddit users, it seems some miners have already started using this.

Essentially to have this working a change in /config/bmminer.conf is required and a pool with the required stratum support is required.

Does anybody have further info?

Of course the easiest would be to point the miners to antpool, but that may not be the best idea  Wink

Is anybody using individual 220v surge protectors for the s7/s9s?   If so what are you using?

I am a little worried about trusting a 'whole home' surge protector because it's made more for big electronics (refridgerators/washer/dryer) than computers which may be more sensitive to spikes.

A single S9 pulls about 6 times the wattage of a refrigerator, nearly the same wattage as a washer running 24/7, and over 1/2 of the wattage of a dryer running 24 /7; S9s are "big electronics".
All mine are done with in-box protectors, individuals are cost prohibitive.

You shouldnt need any more protection than what is offered by a quality server grade PSU.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

I'm looking at ordering some S9's here soon. It seems like there hasn't been many defective equipment lately, or at least not much complaining going on. Anyone having and issues lately with new-ish batches?

Last batch of "13.5" that we have are all running at ~13.6TH/s with ~0.0001% HW error rate (and all running as the manufacturer intended them to). Now mind you, that is in a controlled environment, not a garage or bedroom. Tongue

I've looked through the forums for a bit but cant find any info on recommended runtime for the S9. Any thoughts on good on/off cycle times?
Thanks

Um, there is a good reason for no mention of cycle time: They are designed to run 24x7x365. This applies to any cryptocoin miner be it for BTC or an alt. After all -- if it isn't running, it isn't making money Wink

To be honest, as someone who designs/implements industrial power electronics as part of my work I must strongly state that frequent scheduled on-off with full cool down before restarting is damaging to ANY power electronics that generate significant heat.

Reason: mechanical stresses put on the myriad of solder joints and other connections caused by the materials heating up and expanding at different rates until temp is stable, then cooling down and shrinking again at different rates until stable. With a temp range of ambient (cold) up to around 100C when running we are talking a significant amount of stresses that will be needlessly created over and over again..

Now simple rebooting - that's another story. In short, if the miner is behaving normally - leave it alone.
That said, in the past I've often seen all bitmain miners from s1 on up sometimes get flaky after about 30 days or so. Still work, just might report wrong. Simple reboot and all is well again. I've also had miners go for months before being rebooted so your mileage may vary...

Speaking of the S9 (or any miner for that matter) experiencing varied operating conditions over time, I notice my S9 will typically hash well at 14 TH/s with variance between 13-15 TH/s at my share difficulty (got the November batch), but after several days of operating it will drop down to average 12.5 TH/s. Pretty much every time I reboot it (hard power cycle) it will restart at that 14 TH/s average for a few days before dropping back down.

Any thoughts on this?

I haven't been able to find an answer to this, but after reading about ASIC boost, it appears that when mining on Antpool, a S9 should use ~20% less power?  Has this been verified by anyone?  Or is this only for miners hashing for Bitmain themselves.

It is astounding the lack of understanding people have over this whole asicboost thing. Its not this magic power reducing unicorn. Functionally it does NOTHING because the pools dont have it activated.
