The nanos will have to drop in price or they will stop selling.  Who is going to buy a $450 nano over a $199 480 or a $379 1070?  Ive already seen brand new 390s drop to $259 on newegg now and ive been watching the prices of 390s daily since april

The nano is really in a niche market though. It is marketed towards customers that want good graphical performance for their mini-ITX setups (Think HTPC).

cheapest 1070 is $419 i doubt they will be sold for msp in 2016 maybe  in a few months $420 for
26mhs at 90 watts is basically the same as a nano the diffrnce being the nano also produces 1200 dcr
for and aditional 45 watts

Any idea of what the risk to hashing performance would be due to driver issues?

Any lessons from the past?

Availability (MAJOR shortages) on both the GTX1080 and now the GTX 1070 are putting a serious limit on how much they are affecting the market so far.
Might change in the next month or two though.

DirectX 12 also appears like it might give AMD a major shot in the arm on competative performance for a couple years, as it appears their CURRENT gen cards are competative with Pascal ALREADY.

power consumption of nvidia 10*0 cards are not that great either:

Quote
Measured Power Consumption

Mind you, the system wattage is measured at the wall socket side and there are other variables like PSU power efficiency. So this is an estimated value, albeit a very good one. Below, a chart of relative power consumption. Again, the Wattage shown is the card with the GPU(s) stressed 100%, showing only the peak GPU power draw, not the power consumption of the entire PC and not the average gaming power consumption.

that is when gaming, and that is without 60% tdp reduction

here in mining we don't need the full tdp to mine comfortably

no it's not the same as nano, nano can only do 22 at 80w, 27(not 26) at 90 is much better

22.7% more hash with only 12.5% more consumption

If ethereum relies on memory bandwidth, how the heck are you guys coming up with these hashing estimates when it only has a 256-bit bus? I don't think it's going to be anywhere near 30mh.
The 380x did 25mhs until the latest dag, now it's doing ~21mh so with the 14nm chips in the 480 should offer a jump in performance and efficiency, especially for claymore's dualminer.

Too bad the demand is going to go through the roof, with miners and tons of gamers wanting this gpu I can see what happened with the R9 200 series and prices. Expect a 100$ bump on these cards when demand is insane.

I see a lot of hype for that card and I'm not surprised. But with the demand already rising through the roof, I think many people will buy them not for mining and gaming, but just to put them on sale for 100$+ to make a profit of the miners and gamers, that will actually use the card Cheesy If the performance justify the expectations, I'm pretty sure those who get the card for 200$ will be the lucky ones - the others will, be paying more for it in the next months Wink

If the RX 480 price is higher than the R 390, by a big margin, I will buy the R9 390 instead if it has more hash.

yes and you will likely consume 50-100% more, no tnx i'll stick in waiting new gen card, also i don't want to be stuck with ancient technology that in the future no one want anymore
You are dead on 50-100%, a nano is about the same specs as and r9 290x and that's what I am expect the RX 480 to be, nano uses 175w , 480 ~ 100w. I may buy some nanos if they drop HARD HARD like $140.

youre crazy if you think nanos will drop below 400  , either way they have an unmatched form factor and the HMB memory used to make them is crazy expensive.  They will hold thier value no lower than 429 until maybe the 490x cards are released at the end of the year.

Already are used http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Radeon-R9-Nano-4gb-/231973906748?hash=item3602b8e93c:g:gJwAAOSwuhhXWBJ0

The nano will be replaced by gamers with r480x if they have HBM, they can small form factor the 480

The fan already makes the card much larger.

Longer, loud, and bad cooling efficiency.... vapor chamber is the worst option for gpu, especilly in the case o mining (24/7 hours).

In Europe, the 480 will cost around $300. So it might not be a good idea to buy it. We will see in two weeks.

I will just do a calculation to compare the 480x with the 390 and Nano, if it is better, I will buy it then.

Yes. I am thinking if I should wait another 16 days or buy some R9 390 now. I can start making money now.

Depens on if you dont have a problem with the heat and power drain of the 390s  if you have power under .10cents i would say buy as many 390 as you can as long as you can cool them

the 390s run HOT and also the 970s as well , compared to the nanos and these newer cards which can mine at full power at 70degrees easily even in a poorly ventilated area like mine.

People always worry about power use but the bigger issue is the heat, the higer the power drain of a GPU the more heat it will generate and you have to be able to counteract that somehow.

I think I will run the R9 390 at around 0.95V and 930 MHz, that would make the efficiency higher, but still less efficient than the 480.

Oh wow, you are exactly in the same boat where currently I am. Pretty same question.

The place where I live, I've to face $0.15/kWh. So I guess I should wait for the release of 480. But then, what if it doesn't go well with the mining, since no one has tested it with mining so far? Or what if it's availability lacks due to a number of hungry gamers/miners and they'd be available at a price much more than $200? Then all the waiting would go straight in waste.

Till the release of R9 480, the difficulty to mine ethereum would definitely increase as well. But that should not be the problem as long as the value of ethers increase at the rate at which it is currently increasing.
