I think you are better off running these 480s with the PCIe risers that have the 6 pin PCIe power connectors instead of just the sata or molex connectors.

I didn't know those exist, but I guess you could use a molex to 6 pin pcie cable. This raises the question as even if you use powered risers, the risers use molex/sata or 6 pin you will have to add cables and use more adapters to fit the gpus onto a single psu. To me the point of this GPU besides less power was to have a more clean setup with less issues running multiple psu to power the bastards. The molex cable on psu's are usually have multiple connections on a single length of wire run. So when 80 watts is getting pulled from each gpu the limits are hit pretty fast. But if you use a pci 6pin then you have less for gpus.

This is what I came home to today. And that's WHY you use powered risers. I know, but funny thing, I have ran 3 280x's on that system for years with non powered risers and have never had a problem. These draw less power but fried the board. Powered risers (and a new motherboard) or on the way. I'll wait to see what comes out with the 2nd gen of the 480s Why did it got burned? Is it an issue in cooling? Or did it Overheat? or Hardware Malfunction? It is burned due to Overheat i guess also RX 480 has many things which are not told to its users that makes many damages . I am not buying this card.

Amd marketing department told us that 2 x 480 is faster and cheaper than one gtx 1080. Well it is not going to be so long gaming session with crossfired 480...

Has there been any official statement from AMD about making a new revision of this card with 8 pin connectors, or anything about this 470 release?
Looking unprofessional

They made a statement that they will "fix" 480 power issues via software (w/o details).

If you do not overclock, will you still have burned PCIE slots?

This is what I came home to today. Were you using RX 480 graphic card with that motherboard? What temperature were you getting with it? Definitely curious to know that...

You have to use properly powered risers. Most of the powered risers cannot withstand 75 W of power.

Official statement in response to PCIE power draw:
"As you know, we continuously tune our GPUs in order to maximize their performance within their given power envelopes and the speed of the memory interface, which in this case is an unprecedented 8 Gbps for GDDR5. Recently, we identified select scenarios where the tuning of some RX 480 boards was not optimal. Fortunately, we can adjust the GPU's tuning via software in order to resolve this issue. We are already testing a driver that implements a fix, and we will provide an update to the community on our progress on Tuesday (July 5, 2016)."
