Yes as we know that bitcoin is the first and master crypto currency and all other coins are the copies of bitcoin then how can a copy replace its original. It is hard for any of other crypto currency to replace bitcoin and to become the first crypto currency of the world.

They are not just a copy paste of bitcoin. Most altcoins have something an actual thing to offer. For example, the new and quite hyped up coin on Liqui, the Edgeless (EDG coin). The coin can be used in the casino that doesn't have a house edge. Most gamblers say that they are losing because of the house edge so I guess that's what gave the developers that idea for a coin. Other coins have their own target market. Altcoins are better than bitcoins at some aspect but that's not enough for them to replace bitcoins.

21 billion market cap is a really huge number for a new coin to chase so replacing bitcoins wouldn't be that easy. A killer feature that will obsolete bitcoin's feature is the only reason I can think of as to how a coin will surpass bitcoins.

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

It makes no sense because Altcoins keep springing up but all of them one way or the other forks part of Bitcoin and if this scenario continues I doubt if any could replace Bitcoin but they can exist as good coins but not to take the place of the premier coin.

Some people have said that if there is a hard fork, it will weaken Bitcoin and one of the major altcoins could pass it in value. It seems that this may be the only scenario in which any altcoin could overtake Bitcoin in value.

I don't think that there can be any powerful altcoin that has potential to replace bitcoins as altcoin price will never exceed the price of bitcoin ever in future so its almost impossible to happen as bitcoin will always be the king of crypto currency.

Yes, the probability is very high but making bitcoin obsolete is very unlikely to happen. I can mention many devices, machines or tools that they are the first company to invent and produce but however they are topped by another company. This is something that will also happen to bitcoin.

Bitcoin is like the founder of cryptocoins, there are many crypto currency out there because bitcoin. Without bitcoin, all cryptocurrency will never happen. But, i think bitcoin can be replaced by another cryptocurrency IF something bad really happen into bitcoin. Other popular cryptocoins will rise and replace bitcoin like Doge, eth, dash and many else.

Just look at the value of bitcoins and compare it to those altcoins and those altcoins are not anywhere in the list to compete with bitcoins so I don't think that any altcoin can be that powerful that can replace bitcoins in near future.

For now yes, but much coin better and perfect than bitcoin, and I'm sure someday bitcoin will be replaced with a better coin.
agree with you bro, everything have limit . Even bitcoin have limitation . There' s no forever in the world thats true. Bitcoin replaced by another coin I think decade will happen but as of now bitcoin is more powerful all of the coin. I hope the next coin that replaced in bitcoin better so we can earn more money. But I hope bitcoin will livelong so can help us to earn money.
sorry but I have a different opinion to you. if there is now a coin that were significantly better than the bitcoin bitcoin prices will not rise as it is today. the amount of market cap of bitcoin very far above altcoin, so I think this is not just about technology but there are a lot of things regarding bitcoin which is better than altcoin. many people using bitcoin, even the people in the deep web using bitcoin and developed countries like Japan, USA and Russia also regulate the use of bitcoin.
I totally agree with delliaerd with his statement. To prove this Bitcoin still has dominated the market even though there are far better Altcoins in terms of Technology, right now advancement is irrelevant on becoming the #1 Cryptocurrency in the market. Bitcoin became #1 not because of its technology but because it is the most popular, most demanded, and most valued Cryptocurrency out there. A new consumer will always stick to the option where he/she can use it at most, right now the only Cryptocurrency I think that is being acceped widely is Bitcoin. Other Altcoins are only accepted in some Online Gambling sites like Ethereum and Litecoin.

Eventually, Yes. Anytime soon, No.
Because the way technology is moving right now, its not that hard to believe that something better will be created in the future, so yes it will be replaced one day for sure, as history has taught us that everything will eventually die out no matter how good.
But it is true that you don't see that happening any time soon.

The increased pricing is the one that attracts the large user base than many other digital currencies that are created by cryptocurrency enthusiasts.

The increased pricing is the one that attracts the large user base than many other digital currencies that are created by cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Could be one of the factors but none the main thing, the adoption and the presence of bitcoin in different countries will most likely make people curious about the system and when more and more business will use bitcoin, the demand will boom and the price will increase.
The price that we see which is increasing is more like the outcome of the demand so we also seek for adoption than the price alone.

ETH is pretty big to be honest, 1/6 of the marketcap of bitcoin is no joke, if another big coin like ethereum start to be used like a currency i could see bitcoin in danger to be replaced or at least not the standard the facto anymore

it's all coem to the usage and merchants accepting the new currency, which is tied to people first using it more and the marketcap, which attract interest from merchants and other business

Well, I guess it's good to back an investment that has been doing really great and that is bitcoin, however if you still believe that there is a chance it will replace, I guess it's good to consider altcoins that are popular now such as Ethereum and Monero, and I'm sure there are a lot more you can find out there.

Maybe because all of us want a very fast transaction that no confirmation needed maybe if some coin is meet our expectations maybe that coin will be surpass bitcoin but it needs a lot of upgrade in all that bitcoin have because that will catch attention of the investors and the people who will using it.

ETH and XMR are doing great at a moment and moving really strong but I don't feel that it can be that powerful in future that can take place of bitcoins and will able to replace it but anything is possible so only thing we can do is wait and watch.

There's no need to replace, and you are right with it that bitcoin needs upgrade and that is being tackled by devs already. But I believe that there would be one day that bitcoin will be replaced in terms of it's features and the original will remain. And being replace of another coin, I'm not considering it to happen at all.

Bitcoin itself won't be taken over/replaced by a different cryptocurrency unless there is some major shift with the cryptosphere or a lot of the fiat financial systems start to move into cryptos and everyone pushes for a new one.

Bitcoin can change and be modified, but there's a very small chance that Bitcoin will be replaced in the foreseeable future.

It can be possible or maybe not bitcoin was the first successful virtual currency ever created and ..,
after the success of bitcoin other created there or currency because they also wanted success that end up alt coins..,,
Maybe someday bitcoin experience a problem that can the answer that it will be replaced by other..,
The bitcoin was Introduced in 2009, Bitcoin was created by a developer or group of developers going by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. Initially the value of the currency was set by users on forums until the first exchange outlet was established. It is known as a "crypto-currency"; meaning that the money and transactions are secured and controlled through encrypted passwords. Since its introduction, Bitcoins have been gaining momentum worldwide, with over 1,000 merchants accepting the currency.

I think it is possible. at least bitcoin and few authority altcoins (Like Ethereum, Ripple) percentage of total market capitalizations will change.

They will come close to each other.

Because authority altcoins still achieving promising growths.

Does it make sense to believe that Bitcoin could one day be replaced by another cryptocurrency, that is, a cryptocurrency that really does make Bitcoin obsolete?

It's possible. but bitcoin has gained much more popularity and it has been adopted for mass use.

Bitcoin is symbol of trust in all cryptocurrencies and will keep dominating this market. Bitcoin will not be replaced by another cryptocurrency as it is to be used as basic thing to set the values of other altcoins. Bitcoin has reached the level where it can not be undone or to be influenced by any other coin.

Altcoins are better than bitcoins at some aspect but that's not enough for them to replace bitcoins

Could you explain shortly (in your own words) how this coin is different from the pack?

On the other hand, the only killing feature right now will could at least theoretically make Bitcoin obsolete (if is continues to stagnate with no new features added) are instant ping-time transactions. Many coins that followed Bitcoin lead tried to diminish confirmation times rightfully thinking that this is what people need, but none of these coins came even close to truly instant transactions made in a completely decentralized way. This and dirt-cheap transactions is what could potentially threaten Bitcoin hegemony
