Hello!

Newbie here (though getting familiar with Bitcoins & Litecoins since last couple of weeks). Already mining litecoins (BTC hashrate is not even worth mentioning :-) ). And already found out the cruel world of bitcoin scammers. But that's how we learn!

+1 to this post
Started from bitcoins 2 weeks ago. Then moved to litecoins due to new difficulty on btc (+36%). I think ltc (and other script cryptocoins) is the only way to survive for videocards miner.

May i ask what happened?

Sure!

One of the websites was selling a too-f**ing-good-to-be-true deal and I jumped in. Immediately realized that this was bad, but I had already completed my PayPal transaction. Started searching around the net and this was 100% fraud. I even tried to dig up details using my paypal transaction, his domain info, etc... repeated chats with the "customer support". All of it was seemingly like what everyone else found out - once you submit the transaction, you are gone. The site looks a bit shady if you know what to look for - the deals for sure are very appealing. Try doing a live chat and you'll get more details about this "seller" and his intentions. Paypal isn't verified, but he has a hazy image of "paypal verified" and every "secure" icon you can get.

With the BTC prices going up, and all the other means difficult, I made a fatal mistake. He constantly spams message boards and reddits with his out-of-this-world-deal. I now made a point to report that to approp board wherever I see it, as well as pester him on the chat, hoping he will atleast stop for a while and save few other newbies like me.

Still trying to get Paypal / my bank to get this reversed. I'll post more details here if anyone is interested.

Just started mining litecoins in a pool today, from ltcoin.net, used the scryptminer gui from here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=62414.60, and things are rollin' along.  I'll leave it running on the GF's pc when I go back to the bush tomorrow to my off-grid hovel.  Wink

Hello from Australia!
My name is Craig and I work for an NGO in child safety services.
I've been watching the forum for about three weeks and finally decided to join it.
I'm very interested to see the development of Bitcoins and related communities.

NGO = Government funded?  Can you Aussies not make sure your children are safe without NGO's?

If so...**moocher**  **cough **.

Just kidding, welcome aboard, start mining or hashing for the cause asap.

Hi,

My name is Matt. I've been watching bitcoin since 2010 and finally decided to join and make some contributions.

Also, I'm interested in bidding in the upcoming friedcat's auction for some usb devices.

Could I please be allowed on the main board?

Thank you

Yes NGO = Non-Government Organisation
We are funded to care for children that have been relinquished by there parents due to extreme needs.

Thanks for the welcome Smiley

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here, but I actually had some bitcoins 2 years ago that I purchased via PayPal, and via Slush's mining pool. But they were stored on my SSD which failed, and I had no backups. At the time I didn't care because the price was so low, and I couldn't be bothered to set everything up again once I had fixed my PC, so I pretty much forgot about bitcoin.

The recent runup in prices has rekindled my interest (and made that SSD failure extremely expensive...) so here I am.

Hi All,

Just got introduced to Bitcoin and Crypto Currencies through the explosion of news coverage, so delved further and have been, for the past week, absolutely enthralled by this.

Going to keep an eye on this as it will be, at the very least, fascinating!

Good luck to all!

Yet another of the five posts needed to exit limbo...

Should have registered when I first started reading, I would have five gold coins by now.

Every little BTC helps.  14P3TfbttSpQ3BxUjwrUrmNU6F4mB9aMS5
