I'm all good thanks, I bought the same deal. I never build a GPU rig, that's my first one. I bought 6 Rx470 4g.  I couldn't buy all of the same manufacturer tho. I wanted to pay BTC and i used Newegg which is limiting 1 or 2 GPU per manufacturer

I just need riser now (I need to read on that part of the rig) and I go grab some aluminium pieces for the rig. I want to find an alternative to the wood part to sit the mobo on. wood scares me for fire.

I just bought all the pieces in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfE_QidD75M.

I'm sure there are other instructions, but I found these the other day.  I used 3/4" aluminum and wood, instead of 1", to help control costs (Yes, I'm cheap like that).  I'll let everyone know how it goes, if there is interest.

I found the same video and I will probably build something like that. My only concern is about the wood part and the mobo for fire hazard.

I found an open ATX frame on aliababa but it's 20$ shipping for over a month of wait. Couldn't find one like that in any other place.

What you linked is useless I think. I put everything simply on the table and it is working perfectly. Moreover, the McGyver look is really awesome !

Phil how I envy you and your cheap USA prices ! For exemple here the Biostar Racing is priced the equivalent of 268$ !!!

I hope you get more lucky with the combo RX gpus and H81 mobo.
I have been replacing all mobos in my rigs to go completely riserless.

I have been using H81 boards in my rigs for atleast five years with alot of different gpus but with the RX ones i have only had trouble, especially after going custom roms.

 No custom roms.
Don't dual mine and don't over clock.
I have one H81 don't plan on more, but this one was a very good deal.  99 usd for board, ram, cpu, cpu cooler.
I will run 3 to five cards on it.

ALL my other builds are all mobo.

I will be up to 26 rx 470's and 480's  I think 12 rx 480s and 14 rx 470's this friday.  I would be able to go to 29 before I need a new board.

3 four card biostar z170's maxed out all mobo slots = 12 cards
1 three card asus  z170   maxed out all mobo slots = 3   cards
1 two card giga     z170  can add 1 more to max    = 2 but 3 on fri
2 two card giga   b75m   maxed out all mobo slots  = 4 cards
1 two card asrock h77    maxed out all mobo slots = 2 cards
1 five card asrock  h81  1 mobo slot  1  riser so far  = 2 cards   can add 3 risers

so on fri 26 cards 9 pc's   with 3 possible cards to the asrock h81   29 cards max  I can also add 1 more mobo maybe a 3 card giga. total max of 32 cards and 10 rigs.

I need to move my gear around more. Spent hours trying to clean and make gear neater today.
I have to relocate the s9 back to the solar array
I have to move my 30 amp 240 volt pdu closer to these rigs. far too many power cords at the moment.

nice thing is my 1 pdu should do all of these pc's since they pull under 20 amps. When I get to the 26th card on fri  I will not add any cards for some time.. I will arrange and neaten up  gear.

I have good quality risers, i probably have around one hundred risers in total and i have replaced and replaced but the problems dont go away. Not sure what the problem is. I have had five rigs going and only one have been going without problems. I replaced the mobos in the other rigs and they have been going perfectly after that without risers.

I only have 2 x 10 amp powerlines to use so i try to get the total number of cards to a minimum and get as much bang for the buck out of them as possible.
I will get four more 470s and then i am done.

Right now i am getting around 470Mhs @ ETH with my sixteen cards.
Replacing the last H81 board in the coming week. I am sitting at work now and see that the H81 rig (4x470) is offline again as we speak :/

What hashrate do you get with the rig listed ?

Yeah your problem as I see it is the cards are overclocked.  You push 27 to 30 a card.

I push 22 to 25 a card.

So the cards stress the risers and or mobos more then mine do.
So all the gains from higher clocks are lost since you have to swap out gear.
If my gear lasts on the risers it simply may be I pull less watts.
Or maybe I kill the gear just as fast.

Right now i run 10 x 480s and six 470s.

My rigs are perfecty stable as soon as i go riserless.
So the problem seem to be with the risers.

Right now i have two 470 rigs.
Same custom bios on all cards.

The H81 rig with risers is totally unreliable.
The one with all cards onboard without risers have been running perfectly from the day i put it online.

480s run at 30.5Mhs stable
470s run at 27.5Mhs stable

Well, I go the last of my components from NewEgg today, so now just hoping my W7 arrives tomorrow so I can set up my first rig this weekend.  Really curious to see what that i7-6800k is going to do, but overall, just chomping at the bit to finally start mining at some real speeds with the 3 MSI RX 470's!

So, I have (mostly) built my current personal PC myself, so I am fairly confident that I can assemble all of the hardware by leveraging the MoBo and YouTube demos if i get stuck. What I am a bit more foggy on though is the BIOS & OS setup, mainly the order, so wanted to pose a few quick questions here for some feedback:

After installing all hardware onto the MoBo, including connecting to PSU...

1- power on machine
2- since I am hooking up a brand new SSD, there will be nothing on it, so assuming the BIOS screen will come up first
3- at this point, do I see if the BIOS needs updated first before doing anything else?
4- or, should I clear/reset the CMOS censor before updating BIOS? Or, does this even really need to be done at all?
5- would the next step be to install Windows?

Finally, I am assuming that I plug in ALL 3 GPUs at initial setup BEFORE turning on the machine for the first time. If that is not correct, please let me know.

Also, are there any quirks to look out for specifically for a multi-GPU set-up?  Obviously i know not to enable cross-fire or SLI bridging, but are there any other unique things to be aware of during set up?

FYI: I am using this X99 MoBo:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157543&cm_re=ASRock_x99-_-13-157-543-_-Product

Hey philipma1957, figured I'd move our conversation over to your thread since it's more appropriate... So what hashrate are you getting with claymore on those 4G MSI's?   And did you find a better price than jet.com for those cards?  I'm getting ready to give a shot at building a 7 card rig, so if I could use the 4G, then I think it would end up costing me almost the same as the 6x 8G config.  Wink

Turn on the computer with only one GPU (my recommendation, just in case one gpu doesn't load properly with drivers). You will have to restart afterwards anyways when you install the AMD drivers, so at that point you can connect the other GPUs.

What OS are you using? If you have a cd that will need to be loaded, if not a usb with an OS system or SSD that is flashed with one.

You have no need to go into the bios on initial startup or ever unless you're trying to tweak something some pcie or something.
