this was the cheap priced good deal the mobo+ ram+ cpu+ cooler = 99 usd
the four 470's cost me 760 usd.  so 760 + 99 + ssd 41 + risers 30 + windows 7 pro 20 + psu free  had it     so my cost for this was 950  for about 85mh

... however 1 decent GPU is equivalent to tens of CPUs

 Not for Monero. Some of the high-end many-core CPUs put out just as much as many mid-range GPUs.

 I'm going to be curious how well the high-core-count Zen stuff does on XMR.

hope so, I am eyeing on that Zen CPU closely but word is its system on chip design, so it may be like a souped up APU

I am pretty sure those are the -h values no the hashes per second you will get.

I could be wrong, my 290x never got near 1376 when I was playing with it before the 480s.

It's not worth it. 500-600 xmr is both cpus included. Tdp on those is 115w each. And that was at 100% CPU usage.
I have them water cooled and ran in the low 70c temp wise
You couldn't roi from xeons. Mobo alone was 450$ cpus 140$ for both

I have a on board video card which I use to setup my mining rig. I installed one of RX470 until I get my riser.

When I rebooted, the RX470 took over the on board video card. So I need to use the RX as the main video card (guessing some bios tweaking might fix it)

And if I don't plug an HDMI into the RX, the card stop mining.

I'm pretty much going to do some remote desktop from now on, so I think I red about an adapter to fake the cable ?

1. Is the cable/adaptor absolutely required ?
2. Anyway to go around that behavior ?

I go old school I have Kvm-usb switches and monitors.  I can do 12 pcs with 4 on each of my 3 monitors.
My problem is heat just too hot to run my 28 cards.  I will most likely run 4 four card rigs on one monitor.

When I am physically at my warehouse, I use TightVNC to remote control all my rigs there.

From home, I just do a Teamviewer into my main console in the warehouse and take over the TightVNC access to all rigs.

I have 3 test rigs that I am using KVM at home.

I use VNC for my remote needs.

I just don't want any HDMI cable on the rig as I don't need it. I guess i'm gonna have to buy a fake hdmi cable adaptor.

For now, i have to plug an HDMI in the main card or it stops hashing.

I use hdmi emulator, $15 on Amazon, for my rigs. Rigs act as if there is a monitor attached and allow me to teamviewer in.

I did not know any better  and I had unreal luck on uncles right away.

I was paid  blocks of 9     3 times  in my first 10 blocks,  basically  that is about 12 extra coins.

Since then  2 more  out of 90  which is normal.

  so 20 coins in total.   I suppose I could do the other way but I like that when ever then send a block to me it could be 9 vs 5 coins

Whats your wait time for a block? Seems to me if you have less than 500 MHs its not worth it to mine on the ethpool all-or-nothing payout system.

I wanted to chime in again and firstly thank everyone who contributed feedback to my first mining rig build. So, I finally got my heatsink, installed it today along with the CPU, RAM and the 1st MSI 470!  I have yet to do anything with the power supply/cables since I wanted to get the layout built and tested before that final step, but everything including the test bench assembly and mounting/hooking up the SSD & Optical Drive went well.

So... once I realized how absolutely HUGE these GPUs are compared to the MoBo, I now totally get when Phil and others stick to a 4-GPU build lol    I was able to plug in the first 470 into PCIe3 x16 slot #1 no problem at all (no blockage issues, etc).  However, after plugging in GPU #2 into PCIe3 x16 slot #3 (slot 2 is PCIe2 x4 slot, so i skipped that for now as I understand that will need a riser cable), I realized that it actually blocks PCIe slot #4, which is the short PCIe2 x1 slot. From Phil's previous advise on risers for this board, I purchased this PCI-E 1x to 16x riser adapter cable:

The first problem is that the short PCIe 1x slot is blocked. Only an extremely low profile plug/adapter could possibly fit in there underneath the GPU.

The 2nd problem is that I can't even figure out HOW this adapter is supposed to work because even if there were space above this slot on the MoBo, there is nothing in the product above that could fit in this slot. Aside from the converter board itself there is only a 4-pin molex to wide sata power cable (i don't even have any of the wide sata slots on this Mobo, only 10 regular sata) and also a 2-ended USB cable.  Am I crazy or is this adapter even meant to plug into that 1x slot at all? Either way, i cant figure it out so would appreciated some advice.

GPU #3 inserted fine into PCIe slot #5 (the 3rd and final PCIe3 x16 slot). Unfortunately, the GPU blocks a bunch of headers/jumpers, but it seems like possibly none of these will be required for this build (BIOS/CMOS stuff, COM & TPM headers, front panel audio, & USB headers).

GPU #4, which arrives tomorrow would therefore have to go into either slot #2 or slot #4 (already described the issues with slot #4 above, so not even sure that is usable at this point).  Slot #2 is PCIe2 x4, so I got this adapter/riser cable:

But, although the short end of this cable fits within slot #2, there's a lot of empty space since the adapter pin section is shorter than the overall slot length.

Bottom line is that I've never used this kind of risers/adapters before so I figure either there is something I am missing, or, i simply bought the wrong adapters.
