If more and more online sites will start accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment then bitcoin replace paypal in future as at a moment there are not many sites that accepts bitcoins as a mode of payment and almost all sites have an option of paypal and that makes it more popular then bitcoins.
I don't think Bitcoin can overcome paypal because they have some Governments backed policies and no Government can give these facilities to bitcoin in many countries its connected to banks which is also very good favor for this and no bank going to give this favor to bitcoin

I'm not sure if Bitcoin will ever be faster than PayPal
At this point, it would never be faster than PayPal, since it hasn't become scalable yet. But, if Bitcoin ever reaches full consensus, then things would change for the better. Right now, I think that a better candidate would be BitShares with its smartcoins, and higher transaction throughput. They claim that their blockchain could handle an average of 10,000 TPS so it would make it a strong rival against traditional payment processors. If more and more online sites will start accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment then bitcoin replace paypal in future as at a moment there are not many sites that accepts bitcoins as a mode of payment and almost all sites have an option of paypal and that makes it more popular then bitcoins.
Agree. All Bitcoin needs is some little improvements like scalability, fungibility and mainstream acceptance to become widely used among merchants and businesses worldwide. Since it has many advantages over PayPal, it will become very attractive to anyone who would like to start a business with the future of money. Just my opinion.

I do not think so, because Paypal is now clear, and BTC may not be so, if it does not, it is no longer a BTC.

Once Thiel stated that if he have innovated bitcoin before PayPal, bitcoin technology could have got implemented with PayPal for a effective functioning. This doesn't degrade PayPal but the worthiness of bitcoin is mentioned. So in future each might get tied up and making lot changes.

I do Not think so becouse so many people said that the rule of paypal is too strict and people bit afraid to lose their money. But the control of bitcoin is on the owner. The user of bitcoin is keep increasing so may be someday bitcoin will overcome paypal.

Well, sooner or later, bitcoin will surely go beyond bitcoin and people definitely receive bitcoin over paypal. Paypal is now an international payment and has been recognized. But as time passes, bitcoin users will grow in business, so I feel that btc will exceed paypal.

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years? We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal. Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired. there a possiblity it will happen someday as of now paypal have still much user than bitcoin due to some popular online shop that dont accept bitcoin

We can see that after this year the stores in most of the countries will choose to accept bitcoin as their another mode of payment.

Some years ago, I would answer No. But my opinion changed as did many now-adaptors' opinion too. BTC is rushing into the mainstream era. Both technologically and in adaptors, it wins over PayPal. I would consider PP still a bit more popular than BTC at the moment, but that is changing already. I would not be surprised if in a few years it would not only stand up to PP, but replace it. As it did at certain sites, already. For instance, some major forums, such as HackForums, do not accept PP donations from foreign users anymore, but BTC.

Hmm. Interesting question. I doubt that bitcoin can OVERCOME paypal anytime soon . because everybody already knows about paypal, and it's accepted in most online stores nowadays.
Bitcoin -and digital currency in general- is still not mainstream enough!
So I hope that bitcoin will come EQUAL to paypal some day in the near future, , but I doubt that it will overcome it soon.

I would love to see this topic in 10 years, when BTC will grow and evolve.
For now comparing Bitcoin to Paypal, is like comparing nascent CD market in early 80, to already existing and dominating market at that time vinyl standard. Secondly, what are we even comparing directly? Market cap, the easiest to check. Value of money/BTC transferred daily? Number of TX? Number of users?

Whereas I completely disagree comparison between Paypal and Bitcoin, no matter we are comparing today or ten years later. Paypal is simply a payment processor whereas Bitcoin is a currency in its own. Paypal is a business created with the aim of earning profits through fees while Bitcoin is wealth of people where fees goes to miners who work to keep Bitcoin working. These are two distinct items to compare and no comparison can be drawn on any basis. One may compare Bitcoin or USD, Paypal or Coinbase, and so on...but not BItcoin and Paypal!!

Paypal has about 180 million users and something close to 10 million transactions a day. There is no way for bitcoin to match this. The values of real btc transferred are tricky , send a few coins to localbitcoins and you will see they are collected in less than an hour, which means doubling the volume. A lot of exchanges move their coins even 3 or four times before sending them to their main storage or out to users. Until we see an increase on transactions speed and far more real world usage here is no comparison ... yet. And even so the comparison is pretty bad. It should be paypal vs bitpay.

Yeah. When Bitcoin first started, it was never imagined that it would get this far. At that point, we could've thought that it will never overcome or become closer to traditional payment processors, but now things have changed drastically, which increases the possibility of Bitcoin overcoming PayPal in the not-so distant future. More people, merchants, and businesses from around the world, are getting into Bitcoin making its value increase every day. This, in addition to adopting a scalable solution like SegWit or UASF, will greatly enhance Bitcoin, making it even more attractive for anybody to join in this exciting revolution. As Bitcoin provides less fees, and more advantages to merchants than using PayPal, they would eventually shift towards the decentralized cryptocurrency, making it mainstream sooner than you might expect. Just my thoughts.

Bitcoin can overcome paypal only if all online sites starts accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment or else people will never come to know that they can pay even with bitcoins as paypal is more popular then bitcoin at a moment.
