The truth right now is that Bitcoin compete with country currencies. PayPal is an e-currency while Bitcoin is adigital currency. Bitcoin is the highest rate compared to any country currencies now. Bitcoin and PayPal are not in the same category. As a matter of fact, they are not competitors. Bitcoin is changing the world's economy.

That's right, Bitcoin has many functions that can be used and benefit if it can get it Smiley

Yes, but not in this decade.

PayPal is built on a centralized system that is secured. People are still into security and wanting liability. It takes more than a year or two to make people understand changes in technology. Mostly if they've already established a foundation for their trust.

I dont think so I think Paypal is something which deals with currencies and not an actual currency like Bitcoin so there is no competition between them

I don't think that Bitcoin will overcome Paypal in the future. Maybe Bitcoin will be just like gold today. We need coin with fast transactions.

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin
I think yes. Nowadays almost everyone converts the form of payment into bitcoin. I prefer bitcoin than paypal. My paypal account has been limited. I called and talked but they did not help. I will never use paypal again

I think Bitcoin and Paypal should co-exist rather than replacing one each other, Paypal is very useful in many use case - border transfer among different currencies are well integrated and efficient, pretty standard pricing on fees. Of course Paypal has its own flaws such as charge back issues, just imagine how difficult it was to manage so many international transactions with other operational/banking issues.

On the other hand Bitcoin should eliminate these issues through one cryptocurrency and was even more reachable through blockchain, but issues on $5 fees on each transaction/slow block confirmation? I think Paypal would be the clear winner as long bitcoins are still treated as gold/investment rather than using it like a real currency, maybe someday where millions of merchant accept bitcoins and transaction had vastly improved, it could beat any centralized payment service company.

Yeah, you can see in this forum, the primary payment method is Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, there are not many people still choose PayPal for business in the make money online community at present (for short is MMO). Other large forum about MMO also choose Bitcoin the primary to make deal.

Not by a long shot bitcoin could ever overcome PayPal,
The PayPal community are giants and was around long before bitcoin even existed. Grin
Jamie Dimon says the government will crush bitcoin watch video here:https://twitter.com/business/status/918933480985071616

Giants can fall and have fallen in financial world also.
And how you can crush something that is decentralised and can operate in shadows easily?

I don't think bitcoin will overcome PayPal
People need protection when buying online  Wink
Many scammers online and you can't get your bitcoins back if you make a transaction with one

I agree that we need protection but I see and hope that we will have block-chain technology that allows us to have buyers and sellers protection which is not PayPal.
Their fees can be huge.
They do not care about customers in many situations, they have their algorithms which limits accounts and do not care if one has legitimate reasons.

ALSO if you haven't heard, PayPal have been used to SCAM sellers in several occasions , buyers use buyers protection to scam sellers. PayPal do not require proof they just refund the money and do not listen to reason.

It seems it did not take long before that bitcoin overcome paypal. After bitcoin present, many loyal paypal users switch to bitcoin, including me.
It looks like paypal will cease operations.

The probability is big since bitcoin has a lot of promises in the future anf hopefully bitcoin will overcome paypal. With bitcoin in any other transactions makes it easy to pay without any questions asked.

Q3 2017 Paypal volume was 114 Billion.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/277841/paypals-total-payment-volume/

Now for BTC volume

https://blockchain.info/charts/trade-volume?showDataPoints=true

Easily over 100M per day, 90 days in a quarter.

Granted the BTC values jump around a bit and one needs to consider "change" being returned but it sure looks like in last quarter BTC overtook PayPal!

Thats nice statistics but they do not recognise what PayPal s transactions stand for and what BTC transactions stands for. I think that majority of PP transactions is for merchandise but in case of BTC most of transactions is for investment and trading purposes.
