Gambling and Superstition

There is no way one would have been involved in gambling and will not attach some level of superstition to it. Even the luck that we all talk about as a reason for winning in gambling to me is superstition because how do one that is lucky today becomes unlucky tomorrow. How does one determine that? There is no way it wont be attached to something, maybe I woke up right, maybe the person I spoke to, or the the guy that advise me and the likes. One way or the other, superstition is involved.

Yet some people think some reason when they win from gambling. They want to repeat that experience so they think of something what made them lucky on that day. They think that made them lucky and try to repeat it the next day expecting they would win again but they don't realize it won't happen from gambling. I never see a person that wins consecutively in gambling.

I have seen people winning consecutively in gambling specially poker games.  There are rare cases in Dice and slots.  Though this guy never had any ritual before playing, they just do the usual stuff.  So this scenario means, that people wins or loses no matter what they do before they play gambling games.  And I am no fun of superstitious belief.

Many gamblers were doing great with their passionate involvement of several online betting games, some of them referred superstitions through their gambling signs of lucky timing to win but I don’t think it a better way to be dependent on it everytime. supertitions/myths are something that you shouldn't rely/believe on. it's actually have no relation and effect to the game outcome. people believe on something like that due they have got stressed enough and looking for justification. they want to keep gambling under that supertition as they feel it's comfortable , well it's fine. just never go for fully believe.

I just wonder if these are not working kind of activities, how people will be following these till today. They must be successful by following some superstitions and that is the reason they are still following them. But it will not work hundred percent but may crack success most of the times imho.

I agree with that reason, otherwise all the people around the world will not be following some kind of superstitions.
In Indian culture people are very much showing interest on astrology and I do hear some people are using astrology for their trading as well as for their gambling.
Still, I'm not sure about their success rate. But they are using it because they are finding it is useful as per their belief.

There may be two different cases here. Some people are just following their ancestors words and without benefits also the might be repeating it. And the other case would be what you have said. They find it beneficial and that is the reason, they are following those superstitions/astrology.

Still I'm not ready to accept because there will be no differences between believing superstitions and our luck.

I am kind of like that also but not hardcore when it comes to beliefs.
Something like the coin should flipped heads like looking at me for good luck.
I kind of think like when it is tails the money is running away from me.
Kind of funny also that I still do it. Its like stuck when I am playing.

I do not know how you look at it but if you are asking our opinion I bet we have different views.  My view is that you have developed a belief that Saturday is not your lucky days and then you end up losing in that day making you avoid playing gambling games during that day.  Though you have experienced it, there is no scientific basis that Saturday will always make you lose you bet.  So in my point of view, that falls under superstition belief.

Its indeed a superstitious belief because you set a particular day that you wont play at all because you do know you are not lucky on that day which really be considered as one but still theres no prove or basis if this would work or not.It does really depend on a certain individual on how he gonna handle himself on playing gambling.

There is this one thing I remebered what my Uncle said to me. "Never keep in your pocket the money that you are winning if the game is not yet over." He means just let it be in the table until the game ends.

Superstition also is based pn the hypothesi.  In short you are just on a prediction matter of whether your bet will win or will lost in the game.  It can hard as want you think to win in the game because it has so many scenario of whats going on.

I'm not able to go to casino so I haven't anything significant to report to you guys. But the above post caught my attention. Maybe a lot of us are superstitious but are just hiding or ignoring it. I like the "Never keep in your pocket the money that you are winning if the game is not yet over." I also have that in my mind. To put a little spin in it. "I don't keep in my wallet"  but only in my pocket. I keep the money I won in my pocket even if the game is not over yet. But only in my left pocket. Why left? because I'm a lefty myself so its my winning hand.

Superstitious will not surely give you a win, you need to be realistic if you want to win and your decision is purely based on fact not on your guts because you feel you are lucky. Though this happens in real gambling life as there are people who are doing it, but the new generation of gamblers are more realistic on their approach and they have a better success rate compared to the oldies.

IMO you have been unlucky, nothing more.
How often do you gamble? You could make a simple test. Write down days from mon-sun and every time you gamble write if you won or lost. After two-three months do some math and you will have your answer

IMO you have been unlucky, nothing more.
How often do you gamble? You could make a simple test. Write down days from mon-sun and every time you gamble write if you won or lost. After two-three months do some math and you will have your answer

You will lose regardless of what day it is. It is just a matter of getting lucky when you are playing and that time you just got really unlucky. Try it again and play on saturday and see if still happens. Maybe this time around you win tons of money from playing on saturdays then you will now have a new superstition.

Me and my family do believe most of the time in superstitious but right now when we are getting wiser with the usual ways. And with gambling, I still manage to believe with it just like with lucky numbers, on what day is the best day to gamble. What do I need to wear to be lucky, just like Chinese believes for wearing polka dots.

Huh you wear the same t-shirt and same parking slot it doesn't make any sense. Normally gamble when I know I'm in luck. The way I find my luck is I invest 0.01 btc and gamble some and if I'm winning I'll invest more and continue withdrawing profits. I have heard worst superstition than yours , a gambler would only gamble if no one wore red in the casino.

That is called a superstition and he might have lost that wearing that too  but he might not notice that because his brain supplies the signal that he won big time earlier and his thought process wont change,hope he will wash it atleast once in a month . I do not have any experience in a real life casino but i hope there are many people with stupid thoughts like these.

You hope i can guarantee you there are many people in the world who actually live in this superstition world. And ya even i though once that weather he was actually washing his clothes because i saw him wearing that everyday and he told me that he bought 7 of those. Plus recently he lost 100$ even after wearing his favourite color

If you think your clothes are bringing you luck than i suppose you are wearing the same lucky clothes every time you gamble and you are winning all the time, right?

Superstition for me is just psychological. Because you think that you are lucky today, then most probably you are going to win. Being superstitious will affect your mind of feeling or you are motivated to win. So I think this is positive for some people here, for example, they are wearing their favorite shirt or wearing their favorite color and then then won. So the next time they will wear it again thinking that because of wearing them will help them win again. So its more of a psychological thing for me.

Yes, how we cannot be sure about our luck same way we cannot be sure about superstitions will work all the times. But people to believe on superstitions will maximize the possibility of being lucky that is the reason they are following superstitions and they are pushing their luck to come and work for them to find profits in gambling. Not just in gambling I believe people are using superstitions everywhere.

But there will be no statistics to support superstitions and not to follow superstitions. People go for again random attempts by having one extra belief through superstitions along with the basic dependent factor luck.

Yes, how we cannot be sure about our luck same way we cannot be sure about superstitions will work all the times. But people to believe on superstitions will maximize the possibility of being lucky that is the reason they are following superstitions and they are pushing their luck to come and work for them to find profits in gambling. Not just in gambling I believe people are using superstitions everywhere.

Superstition is indeed everywhere, but really  it doesn't do anything. I don't believe in any though, so I haven't tried it. I believe in facts and how things work. If the superstition is practical or has a real life use, I will use that practice not because I believe it as a superstition but because it is ueful.
