Obsession and Believing is two different thing. The idea that you will always win because of superstitious will end up what you have describe which is obsession. But if you just believe in it or accept superstition then nothing is wrong with it. The only common factor between the two is that you can't rely on them on always winning its more on a psychological thing for a person.

Always do not look for positive aspects alone. Due to just following superstitions, gamblers may face extra losses instead of stopping gambling at right times. You cannot bring your luck through superstition that is the point we need to consider here.

And this kind of superstition have a devastating effect to the players since it is more likely not gonna happen.  There is a reason why it is called superstiont and that is believing on something that has no basis or guarantee of happening.  One of the worst fallacy in gambling and one of the best reason why many gamblers have ruined lives.

What does it mean to gamble based on superstitious reasoning? I would think that everything that we do inside of gambling would be based off some sort of superstitious reasoning not something like picking the same results as before would have a negative result type of thing though we have the confident feeling overpowering the other feeling of superstition right? I don't like to call my results and active picks based on superstitious reasoning because it just sounds weird.

Supernatural power is a true fact which some people has and they have the ability to do things that we common human beings can't do. But superstition is something human themselves promote without any base. Few does it in the name of God and few with the name of spirits. Believing is on one's own perspective and personally I believe these are not gonna help in gambling.

Gambling and superstition are entirely different. We should not relate them, because gambling is just based on algorithmic calculations and prediction resulting on winning and failure depending upon the luck one holds. Superstition is something out of the world controling us, which never happens with gambling.

That's the real explanation but there are people who really believe in superstitious especially the older people, I have witness that because my dad does not go in cockfighting when the moon is not full, so it is really existing.

LOL. Are you saying that I'm old as your Dad.  There's also a lot of superstitious believe around cockfighting. Just ask your Dad if he goes to cockfighting specially Saturday and Sunday this Holy Week because this is a lucky day for cockfighters to bet . This applies to a backyard cockfighting and not the big derbies in the country. (I assumed you are Pinoy dude!!). Do you complain if your Dad tell you that he losses because he didn't follow his superstition?

I will admit I'm very supertitious when going to a land based casino.
1. I choose the number of parking slot that I will park. Usually it should have my favorite number 111,777 etc.
2. I don't want to wait for someone if he or she is going to go with in the casino.
3. I wear the same shirt that I won big.

While I will admit there is a relationship between gamblers and superstition, the truth is superstition is everywhere, one of my female friends has this crazy idea that a particular outfit gives her luck with the guys so when she really wants a guy she wears that outfit, but that does not have any real effect except maybe a psychological effect on herself.

That's a funny story mate  Maybe its psychological as you have mentioned and just coincidence as well. It really depends on the individuals background perhaps on why people believe in superstitious like the OP. Maybe he was brought up to believe in it while others see it as completely rubbish to begin with. No offense meant to the OP or his family.

Thanks, also superstition may not always be unreasonable but it may come from observation as an example in my country it is bad luck to walk below stairs, while you may think that does not make much sense, I think that superstition probably developed because at some point someone will trip and move the stairs and a poor dude above will fall and suffer and accident.

Often people are terrible at understanding the concept of probability and just believe that they were lucky or unlucky, or that they can regain their losses because it's so unlikely for them to lose again (which is not how randomness works as it doesn't have a certain pattern).

Its already superstition if you believe in your lucky charm. Maybe all of us has somewhat a inner believe in superstitious because every race in the world has one superstitious belief in their society. Just maybe individual doesn't want it to admit to themselves because other people may think that they are crazy or something.

Sometimse this superstition make us more comfortable with what we are betting for yes we expect that in every bet we made are makes us win the game. This what happens to those who bet for the first time they think its 100% of there luck will help them to make profit.
