Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

is it still legal to mention the vegeta meme in here?

I have recently seen Vegeta here in the topic so guess it's still legal.  Grin

But prepare the post ;-) it's getting close

That hat should be illegal.  Wink

You should make him a new hat for the $10k post halving maybe.
But for now:

or for those who like the cartoon-reality version:

Oh yah that reminds me a new B&F episode came out over the weekend just before the halving.
Gotta find it and do up a post for it later on after the party stops. Cheesy

Dont worry about it. The beginning is boring. Just them talking to other cointelegraph employees from around the world such as Italy and germany. So nothing really missed until we get closer to the actual blocks needed to push it there.
Roger (if your waiting to see what he has to say Roll Eyes ) should be closer to the end.
He will of course be fashionably late for the party. Wink

What's that havling everyone is talking about?

Funny thing is my friend who thought I was nuts for buying Bitcoin in 2012 is now texting me about the halving and where I buy Bitcoin...

What. Does he want to start buying now for the first time or something?

Yes he just started buying on coinbase! 8 years later... lol

Good morning Bitcoinland.

It's halving day and the pre-halving volatility continues... up over $9k and back down again... currently $8923USD/$12490CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

We await with eager anticipation.

Anyone following the halving trend knows Bitcoin takes a dip early halving cycle. $10k was also obvious resistance for the perfect drop.

Bitcoin has only had two halvings. There was no dip early in the first halving cycle, unless you count the crash from the first of the 2 great bubbles of 2013. There was a tiny dip a full month before the November 28, 2012 halving but I think that was too early to include.

Yes there was a dip 3 weeks after the 2016 halving, but was that necessarily halving-related or just a typical summer dip?

In the first few months following the 2012 halving the price soared up. In the first few months following the 2016 halving the price dipped.

There is no clear historical pattern. Anything can happen and probably will.

Yes.

The halvening is a "sharing" event.

All HODLers share half of their bitcoin and get's to share half of the bitcoin of others.

It's a great time for all HODLers.

If you are a nocoiner or a bitcoin naysayer, then you do not get to share.   Tongue

What are we getting so excited over? The big price explosion won't likely happen until next year. This is not some huge unexpected event, we have known about it literally since bitcoin was created. What's with the hype?

It depends on what you mean by "big price explosion". We're certainly not going into 6 digits this year but new ATH is very probable...  Cool  I'd say $20-50 easily...
