Good morning Bitcoinland.

It's halving day and the pre-halving volatility continues... up over $9k and back down again... currently $8923USD/$12490CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

We await with eager anticipation.

Anyone following the halving trend knows Bitcoin takes a dip early halving cycle. $10k was also obvious resistance for the perfect drop.

Bitcoin has only had two halvings. There was no dip early in the first halving cycle, unless you count the crash from the first of the 2 great bubbles of 2013. There was a tiny dip a full month before the November 28, 2012 halving but I think that was too early to include.

Yes there was a dip 3 weeks after the 2016 halving, but was that necessarily halving-related or just a typical summer dip?

In the first few months following the 2012 halving the price soared up. In the first few months following the 2016 halving the price dipped.

There is no clear historical pattern. Anything can happen and probably will.

You need to send half of your bitcoins to my address.

I think ...

:-)

Sounds good if I also get half of yours... maybe Tongue

Yes.

The halvening is a "sharing" event.

All HODLers share half of their bitcoin and get's to share half of the bitcoin of others.

It's a great time for all HODLers.

If you are a nocoiner or a bitcoin naysayer, then you do not get to share.   Tongue

What are we getting so excited over? The big price explosion won't likely happen until next year. This is not some huge unexpected event, we have known about it literally since bitcoin was created. What's with the hype?

It depends on what you mean by "big price explosion". We're certainly not going into 6 digits this year but new ATH is very probable...  Cool  I'd say $20-50 easily...

What's that havling everyone is talking about?

if you have a wallet with x bitcoin in it after today it will only have x/2

this was all hardcoded in by Satoshi at the genesis block to promote decentralization by preventing whales from getting too big

Is that a block mined by the Genesis cloudmining company?

I dunno but they just mentioned about the last block being mined to be quite valuable to whomever manages to get it on the cointelegraph live stream. Grin
Worth 12.5btc Cheesy

It's fun.

I think this youtuber is the only one who has a pretty successful number of subscribers to their channel pertaining to cryptocurrencies and not getting one of these letters from youtube. Only because he discusses it in a light tone and how it functions at times as a farce.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFnpUNyutMA
At one time in this latest video he puts on a blindfold while doing his technical analyst of the bitcoin price. Cheesy
Now this is what we all need in the cryptospace right now.
To not take each other so serious at times like this. Smiley
It is quite fun as its been pretty stale lately.
Just take it in stride like a Novogratz! Cool

What's that havling everyone is talking about?

Funny thing is my friend who thought I was nuts for buying Bitcoin in 2012 is now texting me about the halving and where I buy Bitcoin...

What. Does he want to start buying now for the first time or something?

Yes he just started buying on coinbase! 8 years later... lol

Better late than never. I had a boss back in 2013 IIRC tell me about it and at the time I didn't really get the utility, seemed like role playing money. I got in mid 2017 after spending a couple months finally taking the time to learn about it. I'd love to have the triple digits some of you early guys have but frankly I'm just jazzed to be in at all with my small accumulation. That I lost on a boating trip.
