Blackrock's CIO of Global Fixed Income talking about Bitcoin replacing gold on CNBC today:

Quote
I think Bitcoin is here to stay [...]. Do I think that it is durable mechanism that will take the place of gold to a large extent? Yes I do, because it's so much more functional than passing a bar of gold around

Hahaha, no matter how rich or smart you seem, you can still be a weak hand - emphasis mine:

Quote
Son, who made the remarks at The New York Times DealBook conference, said he was told by a friend to invest "1% of his personal assets" into bitcoin, meaning he invested "about 200 million." After investing the money, Son said he would spend about five minutes each day looking at bitcoin prices fluctuate.

While speaking with host Andrew Ross Sorkin, Son said he found the investment to be "distracting [his] own focus on [his] own business."

Son quickly grew tired of checking the price of bitcoin every day.

This reoccurring distraction from checking prices every day led Son to sell his stake in bitcoin, and he estimates that he lost around $50 million. According to a Wall Street Journal report, Son lost closer to $130 million when he sold his stake in 2018, citing sources who are familiar with the matter.

"I feel so much better," Son said of exiting the cryptocurrency.

How did he ever get to be worth 20 billion?

If I were the board I would remove him from the company. It is obvious he has emotional issues and can't be trusted to invest.

1% of your wealth is nothing.  It is a pure hodl move.  He never need to look a single time at his coin.

BTW if you read the article it appears he purchased at 20 k in 2017 and sold at 7k in  2018.

I can understand the feeling to some extent, although 1% wouldn't distract me, even if that was such a huge amount. But two things don't add up : Son makes plenty of risky investments, in fact he has probably lost many billions, so why care about a 200M investment ? And the other, selling when you have already lost 2 thirds is really dumb : not much left to lose, while it can always go back up...which it's doing.

Cashed out a chunk @ $16,250 USD/BTC.

Rick is retiring early, end of February as a result.

Totally worth it.

The short opportunities continue to grow as fake news fuels the bitcoin HOAX. Little Shatoshi's project has failed as I proved years ago, but the fake news keeps fooling people into losing their money. Smart money will enter high leveraged short positions and keep them open in preparation for the epic meltdown soon to come. Bitcoin shorts will be the greatest trade, possibly in the history of the world.

For sure. You held through the tough times and deserve the reward. You stuck to a number that you would be happy with and it matters not what btc does after that. GL
