Boris Johnson pledging a further £300 million to Ukraine. We have already committed more than £1.5 billion in military equipment and £100s of millions in further assistance via loans and humanitarian aid. Not that I suspect anyone is keeping count. It's only taxpayers' money after all.

'This is Ukraine's finest hour, an epic chapter in its story': Boris Johnson will invoke Winston Churchill and announce £300m more in military support as he becomes first world leader to address Kyiv parliament

Note Johnson told Zelenskyy not to accept any deal by the way.

Good thing it was a carbon-neutral battery fire...much better for the environment. /s  Roll Eyes

That's in France..

I am in agreement with you that matters could have been way, way worse.

Just consider how bad the fire would have been if the fire had been in a less environmentally-friendly jurisdiction and had not been caused from that environmentally-friendly technology that you mentioned.. .. There's gotta be some advantages to the seemingly fast-burn technologies that are shown therein, no?  And, the smoke... if I had a choice, I surely would prefer to breath in that smoke rather than the smoke from the explosion from petroleum (yuk!.. so old school).

Som things have no price.

Totally different scenario. Hitler was actively bombing the UK and had invaded the Channel islands. Also important to note, Hitler rose to power on the back of the west/world sanctioning and isolating Germany after WW1.

But importantly he didn't have the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons on the planet, as Russia does.

I'm increasingly sceptical /worried about what this proxy war is leading to and yes I am starting to think, regardless of what the media writes in the west, that the Ukraine is a lost cause.

Sure, if a "bit" of money can help solve problems I'm all for that. But western governments don't exactly have a great track record in this recently. If anything, often things seem to become much worse.
The UK also has a big problem with voters quite unhappy that we got involved in the Iraq war just under 20 years ago, that was sold on a 40 minute missile strike lie to the UK population, are we sure we are being told the truth about Ukraine this time? Important to note that this time we are getting involved with a much bigger and far more determined and well equipped enemy.

It's probably important to think about permanently homing Ukrainian civilians across Europe now. I doubt most of who have fled (and many who still want to) will ever want to go back, regardless of what happens.
They are in my thoughts, as little difference that actually matters.

They are in my thoughts, as little difference that actually matters.

Here is one of the problems with permanently homing refugees: because of the martial law that applied only to men 18-60, a large % of almost solely female population and children either already left or are displaced inside, perhaps as much as 30% women and 66% children% (5 mil women, 5mil children).
This would leave Ukraine with a huge m/f dis-balance and lots of orphans.

My fear is that Ukraine would simply become the area where Russia and West fight, somewhat similar to when US and China fought in Korea and when US and Russia fought in Vietnam with russians using the North vietnam proxy. A battlefield of sorts, population be damned. I see it in rus tactics: destroy a village with artillery, then advance.
Fooking useless, unless it is becoming, effectively, a 'buffer zone', eventually separating the sides .

IMHO, there is a need of immediate peace, otherwise stakes would keep on rising until something incomprehensible would happen.
Both sides are not in the mood for it, obviously, we shall see in a few days if there is anything along the lines that british media recently suggested.

Where is bitcoin here? if everyone used bitcoin, there would have been no more war as the competition would be in bitcoin accumulation, NOT in who has the most missiles/tanks, whatever.

Mourners forced to rent coffins – media

Surging inflation in the UK appears to be behind the growth of casket-renting services.

Cash-strapped Brits are renting temporary coffins for funeral services before having their loved ones buried in cardboard, the Sun reported on Monday. Funeral directors say the cost-saving measure is becoming more popular as Brits struggle with a skyrocketing cost of living.

My blind optimism have been right so far.

Don't you understand that people allways will be more engaged in helping their own kind than other, more distant people with whom they feel no kinship. That's why the west is helping Ukraine but not Yemen.
If you think people are color blind when it comes to people they feel kinship with, then you are the blind one.

Sorry, your casual racism made me throw up in my mouth just a little..
I feel absolutely no kinship with your pale skin, albeit my skin is on the pale side as well, but i do feel quite a lot of kinship with some people I know whose skin might be darker than mine.

Gosh, talking about slight skin color deviations in the 21st century as a basis of kinship? Wow.
In US most (or a large part) of the population have various degrees of chocolate-ness: from milk to dark.

That just means that you are the exception to the rule.
But if you have another explanation, please do tell.

Then i'm an exception as well, i guess. I can follow your arguments, and i may add another aspect to "being different" (or thinking different?):

Boundaries (aka. borders).

Regardless if culture, language, religion, water, rock and more, these are boundaries, extremely hard to cross for "normal" people, people who feel safe not standing out of a crowd, imho also the main implicit reason for competition. If you have to live on the same frequency to define yourself as a member of your "group", you can only differ from your environment by changing amplitude. Better, faster, stronger stuff. But as a free individual, one can "tune out" and adapt frequency as he/she wishes to, leading to a kind of inter-cultural, borderless consciousness to totally omit the competitive realm.
I think that's more like what Biodom was about in his comment, which he could have placed in a less offensive way for better understanding.

Oh, and prejudice... Another example of a main virtual, social border.

EDIT: I remember reading in a well known psychology magazine, that people in groups (and couples, exclusively) are bound stronger to each oher by sharing dislikings than by common likings, which was used to explain that groups fueled by hate (like racists) are stronger than their ideologic counterparts. Some "woke" communities may be a good example of such a psychologic-structural weaker pendant, which will tend to split/break up sooner. So "closed" communities will be dominant, until humanity steps up to the next level of social evolution, where humans overcome primitive fear, uncertainty and doubt (and thus hate, jealousy and insecurity). This could take another hundreds to thousands, even tenthousands of years, if our species survives up until this point of spiritual development. The "woke" are expecting this shift to be just around the corner (or in the middle of happening), while i try to be more realistic in this regards  Wink

EDIT2: This, or we self-destruct like the ancient high cultures, Maya, Aztecs to name a few well known examples.
