From what we’ve discovered, Mr. Richards—who is a firefighter in lower Manhattan—was mugged and left bleeding after meeting the robbers under the pretense of exchanging bitcoin for cash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He’s alive, well, and refusing comment."

What I'm saying is that, if you think that this comes as a surprise, then you're stupid. I also noticed that the guy who did get stabbed and robbed also said that bitcoin is still wild west and things like this are expected.

Fuck no it doesn't come as a surprise.  You mix greedy idiots and anonymity, this sort of thing is pretty much guaranteed.  And the greedy idiots are usually paranoid fucks pantshittingly afraid of The Man, and prob'ly shady as fuck themselves, so the stabbin' robin' thieves have little to fear

Bitcoin is working great.  The thief was able to get the btc transferred to him just as quick as the cash!  The only difference is the police could attempt to recover the btc (they won't but they could)

Cash criminals are nowhere as dumb as Bitcoin criminal scum.  Take the above-mentioned Mr. Katz, who went off to Anon's "secure location (lol) in Queens" to sell Anon $8.5k in BTC.

THE “JUMP” ACROSS THE CREEK” ANALOGY

I absolutely believe it's possible, even much higher. HOWEVER I would not bet on it. Almost anything is possible with price of BTC. All you need is demand and new money for the price to rise. With coinbase's new exchange and the expected launch of Gemini, regulated exchanges could attract new money from deeper pockets of those who may have been skeptical about the existing exchanges.
