It is not bitcoin they are afraid of, it is other FIATs, mainly USD. They are doing this for very long time to keep their export extremely profitable. You can call it a currency version of "predatory dumping" they would rather harm their own currency than risk lowering their export contracts.

Bitcoin beat the Japanese Wire Bank transfer ... https://cointelegraph.com/news/blockchain-proven-to-be-faster-than-wire-transfers-in-banking-payment-test“Blockchain's low processing speed was seen as a major drawback of the technology,” said the Asian Nikkei Times. “But researchers were able to conduct 1,500 transactions per second using Blockchain, on par with the nearly 1,400 transactions the current interbank wire system is capable of handling at peak times.” The successful nature of the tests has meant that greater implementation of the Blockchain technology in the banking sector is expected in 2017. Startups in the region that build Blockchains may see some very large contracts from the banking industry in the months and years to come.

And as usual BTC does the inverse of what the wall observers expect... honey badger? On a separate note, if my math is right about BTC12.600 (12.5*6*24*7) BTC are mined every week. Finex is showing about BTC40.000 weekly volume but i guess most of that can be attributed to speculation even with their fees? Not even going to talk about Chinese exchanges But https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/ALLshows that there have been sustained volume of around BTC24.000/week for pretty much two years now, since the begging of 2015 on LocalBitcoins. That's about twice the volume of all BTC mined traded just on LocalBitcoins. Which is not a great platform for speculations. Which leads me to believe that either 1-Volume is fake 2-Majority of acquired BTC are used for transactions and are quickly traded back into fiat 3-Someone is selling their reserves to meet the demand

That's going to be an adapted dirty alt that achieved that, probably a private version of NEM/XEM which is being trialled by various operations in Asia.
The obvious choice for now is BTC ...But assuming that the banks will do their own development and their coders come up with parts that look better, but with parts that are still corrupt to serve their own interests. The answer is simple... bitcoin will be chosen against that. But the thing is that bitcoin is like a social media... when everyone has a FB account for example, and there is no entity to undermine the original version of that platform, then other "social medias" cannot compete if it is not fully selfless by its original standards that made it likeable. And so the new alt that they will propose it will be basically a pontzi scheme for them to have a bigger share in bitcoin and pertain to some kind of control to the cause or for the cause, and also to recuperate the loss they missed out on when not investing. They will try or they are trying to get back at us somehow.
