People overreacting to Tether getting hacked:

https://tether.to/tether-critical-announcement/

Why the fuck would anyone hack a token like Tether?

damn good question. giggles maybe

I bet there is a sweet deal on some tether tokens right about now. Probably right around $31 million worth...

Those tokens are being killed. They're worthless and the hackers knew it.

Just because they can? There's no need for further motivation.

They tried to create a market moving event and failed miserably.  Roger Ver’s spam boys have been on Reddit all week crapping on about how Tether is a scam and going to bring down the entire crypto ecosystem.

Money badger don’t care. Money badger don’t give a fuck.

So let's say hypothetically @Bitfinex'ed is right about Bitfinex not having $600 million in Taiwanese banks, and the USDT are not redeemable. If USDT automatically becomes worthless, what would happen to the USDT trading pair? If everyone just lost their USDT is it possible that the price of bitcoin stays unaffected unless there is some sort of panic?   Huh  Huh

Last BTC dumps are being caused by clonecoins pump' n dumps lol. There is a good opportunity to arbitrage your BTG, between bittrex and bitfinex. The only con is that bitfinex deactivated the withdrawals for BTG Sad

imo tether wasn't hacked. They just want to hide the fact that they are printing tethers out of thin air (their ledger was negative).
600Mio tether were used since april to pump the market.

Can't predict whats happening next...might fomo buy BTC because everyone wants to get rid of tethers but then maybe freefall to 3K$

Wow, so much is happening...

So it seems Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is doing well. I guess it's that time of the year again, when I have to fire up my TREZOR and split my coins to get my BTG airdrop.

And now I read about another airdrop, Bitcore (BTX)! How come I missed that?

My plan is this:

1. Create a new recovery seed in TREZOR and move my BTC there.
2. Do the Bitcoin Gold (BTG) splitting on the old (empty of BTC) recovery seed.
3. What do I do to claim my Bitcore (BTX)?

If anyone knows the procedure for BTX, please let us know, I'm sure many of us have the same question.

Thanks!

Thanks. I did read the pages earlier, but felt the info was a bit confusing on what to do. I read them again now, and I think all info needed is contained in the following steemit page:

https://steemit.com/crypto-news/@xwerk/bitcore-btx-guide-the-2nd-snapshot-for-btc-hodlers-free-btx-or-how-it-works

Will empty my current wallet (seed) of all coins first, and then do the BTG and BTX splitting. Will let everyone know what happened, so that anyone wanting to do the same can have some reassurance on the correct procedure to follow.

Yeah this will be an interesting watch. People aren't really taking it very seriously it seems...

If it's true that tether/bitfinex has been applying their own quantitative easing strategy for this bull run, then the market should be well fucked for a while. Who knows how much they have to throw at it tho? Maybe enough to exhaust the sellers. But it's a time bomb either way if true.

And to the people suggesting that this is fud from bch camp: imo this would mean all USDT/Tether pairings on bitfinex are suspect for price rigging including bcash.

3. What do I do to claim my Bitcore (BTX)?

From what I see the claim gives 0.5 BTX per BTC, if I'm reading this correctly, and BTX price is ...28$.... so 14$ per BTC. That's not even worth bothering.

Thanks AlexGR, you're right, it's not really worth the hassle. However, since I'm already moving my BTC to another seed, because of the BTG split process, and the old seed (with BTX claim rights) will be empty, it may be worth attempting it, even just for fun.

If it is a coincidence that Tether is hacked three days after a social media campaign starts against it on Reddit, then that is a remarkable coincidence.

I certainly don't think it's a coincidence, but I'm not sure it makes any sense for the bch camp to hack tether to try and pull buyers away from btc. If tether is a fraud and has been playing the market then the ramifications are much much larger than just bitcoin.

Bitcoin is recovering now, but I wonder for how long... People are speculating that btc is going to spike as people dump tether, but if this is a proper scandal I'm expecting ltc and eth to spike. Lots of people have accounts set up on many exchanges where there is no cash out to fiat. If the markets are rigged and people panic and start to dump they will need to transfer value to whatever service they use as a bridge between fiat and crypto and currently almost no one uses btc for moving between exchanges because it's too slow.

Anyway this all could be just a blip and crypto will continue to rise week after week without correction forever. Everyone will get a lambo to drive on the moon in a wonderful economy of greed and memes and scams.

It reads to me like the growing hubub triggerring a bank run, and then Tether creating this incident in-house as a delaying tactic. Classic ponzi bank run behavior.
