Anyone just seen the iTV 3 news jusst now?

The said at 10pm (UK time) the news@10 will have a special report about, advising people to be careful about investing in bitcoin.

Same as this story but on TV tonight at 10..
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/2954725a-6359-11e3-a87d-00144feabdc0.html
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/13/us-eu-bitcoin-idUSBRE9BC00820131213

You can view it here.  http://www.itv.com/itv/

You may need a UK IP address and postcode.  If not in the UK try using anonymox for firefox and mask your IP address to show as UK IP address https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/anonymox/

And use a random London postcode.  for example SW1 1EZ

To be honest the EU sounds a bit scared of Crypto Smiley

But expect spikes at 10PM ish UK time tonight.

...
How much is required to invest? Can we invest in small amounts? i.e. less than 1 BTC?

yes these companies are split up in millions of shares, you can buy just 1 if you like.

go try it out send a bitcoin and build yourself a profoilo

its FUN FUN FUN  Cheesy

way better opportunities then "investing" in SCAMCOIN of the week

+1, apparently Havelock's fairly scrupulous but the biggest risk imho are those running the investments, can stress enough how important it is to do the research. Day trading can work out well too, there's some very predictable behaviour on some stocks. Again, caution and good luck Smiley

EDIT: Be very careful of mining operations and if you see a guy called pirateat40 get the hell out Wink

I looked at each fund, all of them seem to be losing value. Any fund that you recommend?

No.
The 30000 foot view, looks like this to me: new comers to Bitcoin get board just saving and want to play a proactive role in there investment, so after a growth spurt they look to invest there XBT, so XBT stocks go up, no other fundamental than demand from the likes of new investors. But given Bitcoin is growing and experiencing deflation not many companies will be able to outperform a 1000% growth per year.

If kept track of the performance of these stocks in $ terms, you'd see that some of them have done very well.

I'm looking to rebuild my portfolio. ( i cashed the fuck out when i saw the stampede of poeple coming to buy bitcoin Cheesy )

I'm not 100% sure yet, but i think i'll be buy into HIM PETA VTX CBTC and SFI

I've bought 5000 SFI shares. If it fails I'll send a group of well trained commandos your way Cheesy

The points I'd seen in it are all fair and justified , much along the lines of "don't invest more than you can afford to lose" and "practice good security" along with "if you lose everything don't come crying to us". Some of the press are trying to turn it into a horror story but most seem fair in the report and the examples they use.
Agreed, I am not saying that I think it is impossible or even unlikely that authorities will clamp down on bitcoin in the future, but so far all the warnings seem sensible and understandable.  Don't forget that there are a lot of stupid people out there who are extremely bad at assessing risks, and bitcoin is definitely risky...

In reality its more like using one credit card to pay off another, we're all waving flags and patting ourselves on the back here but most don't realise we've not actually paid back anything significant yet and that government gluttony is still hanging around our necks. It gets those IMF bastards out of here though so its not totally stupid.

Is AIB is still in deep shit, and 98% state-owned?

All of the Irish banks are in deep shit. People who took out mortgages between 2003-2007 (boom years) aren't making payments and the banks are ignoring the issue. They're adding the missed payments onto the mortgage total giving negative amortization. As for leaving the bailout, what a joke! The country is still on life support. With a national debt of €200 billion and a tax income of €40 billion things a looking bleak. A small rise in the cost of borrowing will make the country bankrupt.
