If only it were quite so easy!

Basically that is it, yes - but watch out for delays, lack of confirmation and difficulty in getting money out.

Also any exchange can (potentially) lock up your money or even disappear, so try to keep large amounts 'off-exchange' in a wallet, or at least spread it around a couple of exchanges.

No one will go to prison for stealing your money or losing it, remember that.

Stamp is pretty good and well run and you can get money out reasonably easily (in Europe) Gox is hell, BTC-e is OK.

Make your choice, you will pretty much need to stay there - everyone has a 'home' exchange.

Not as big (and therefore liquid) as the big three....   But I have not heard horror stories - google 'kraken problems' and see what comes up.

Always wise to research before you trust money to an exchange.

a filled bid is just a bid that's been fulfilled. like if you bid at 800 for 1btc and that transaction happened then that bid would be considered filled.

the big thing you want to make sure is that you don't just deposit x amount and click buy because then you'll buy at the highest price. It's easier but it's more expensive generally. To get more bang for you buck you need to put in bids below the current price. For instance, if you had clicked buy earlier today 1 bitcoin would've cost you 830 or so but if you'd put in bids you could've got 1 bitcoin for 768.

It's not an exact science and I think anything under 1000 is good value but with a bit of examination of the trends you can get more bitcoin for your money.

Good luck
