I'm just looking at Bid/Ask at MtGox. Probably manipulated but 40 mill+ Bid and only 25.5K ask - Bid/ask = 1575$/bitcoin. Explosion waiting to happen, or whales preparing to dump?

If my sad experience is any guide, there will first be an explosion upwards, so that everyone will start buying into it, followed by a dump and a lot of panic-selling...

So be it!
Whatever they want to do, just that they do it fast. This is boring.

Okay so I've been trying to buy and sell at gox. When I set a limit order to lets say but at $795 for example, how come it dose not buy when the last price goes to it?

Anyone?

Did you try market order? What might have happened is the fact that nobody matched the sum of fiat for your sale. Market orders are usually instant.

Check for open orders or transaction history to conform if your order was executed

Either they got lag, or other people were in line first and the price moved away from what you wanted before your turn came.

I like to watch the order book live at http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com -- gives you a real feel for how things work.

You should see your limit order in the book as the price gets close to your target.  If someone accepts your bid, then you should get your coin.  It should not be possible for a bid of less $/BTC to be executed while yours remains unexecuted.

The "Buying" column represents the limit orders looking to buy bitcoin.  You would sell bitcoin into these bids.

If you want coins, you either need to place a limit order (which goes in the "Buying" column on Clark Moody) and wait for someone to sell into it, or you initiate a market buy yourself.  When you market buy, you would eat up the "Selling" column to whatever depth is required to meet the number of coins you want.  The cheapest coin you can market buy is the ask at the top of the Selling column (of course, there may only be 0.01 BTC available at this price).

When China gets too far below the pack, expect an arbitrage dump.  Getting fiat in and coins out is easy.
China is very long on gold.  So as one of the nuclear powers with a carrington effect button, I like seeing them have some bitcoin.  real politik

Because it is likely that a lot of other people also have orders at this same price and if not *all* orders at this price get eaten then then only the ones who were earlier than you will be filled. Once *all* orders at 795 are filled then your order will have been filled too.

Orders are sorted by price and then if the price is the same then they are sorted by time and the oldest orders at any particular price are filled first.

There is buying 10-20 coins each 5 minutes or so, and it has been going on for half a day. Seems quite regular, could be someone trying to buy in while moving the price as little as possible. Mtgox-
