Speaking of January 3rd, has somebody mentioned it's Bitcoins 10th Birthday?

As I understand it, that is the reason that date was chosen for PoK.

Having had experienced usage of both the Ledger Nano S and the Trezor 1, I prefer the Trezor 1, so far.  I have not had any experience with Keepkey, so I appreciate your comparing it to the nano s.

I discuss the whole content of that video in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5090244.msg48978949#msg48978949

It is in spanish, but if there is some interest I could translate it.

TLDR: All those potential attack vectors requiere physical access to the device among other things. And even if all requirements would be met (which is already enough negligence on the user part) there are also additional countermeasures for additional security (ie. passphrase).

No all.

^^
stealing the paper or the device is the same just a very littke of weight difference

The difference is, if you steal my TREZOR, you ain't getting my coins... You need both my TREZOR and what's in my brain to get to my coins. But if you steal Jimbo's paper wallets, you already have his coins...

use nano s/blue myself same thing .....

Did you watch that video?

Your blue is transmitting, just make sure a usb cable is plugged in to add an antenna boost.

Fantastic signals and how to find them.

Okay guys, there seems to be some misunderstanding with respect to paper wallet security.  Now, the misunderstanding might lie with me or it might lie with you so I am putting some Bitcoin on the line here as a test.  If you are correct, it should be as easy as 123 to steal the .0123 Bitcoin I have secured on this paper wallet.  If I am correct, then I can relax.

My fully exposed paper wallet:

Go 4 IT!  I will monitor the balance.

Is Bip38 a thing?

6P Tongue

Private key==bitcoin.

I... am confused as to why anyone here would be confused about this?

It’s still there Cheesy

Somebody is definitely going to steal it.

It's a BIP38 password encrypted paper wallet. Impossible to sweep without knowing the password...

Beat me, guess I should read entire thread first! Cheesy

Or store it on a hardware wallet Smiley

IMO, keeping a BIP38 password makes your paper wallet less secure. There's a good chance that you'll forget that phrase by the time you need to extract bitcoin out of your paper wallet. Roll Eyes

Compare the probability of getting your piece of paper stolen and the probability of forgetting the password; there are more chances that you'll forget your password!

Store in a separate place.

As an aside on a personal note, I created over 1,080 images this last year for your viewing pleasure. That is even with the 6 month sabbatical I enjoyed over the summer. I plan on starting fresh charts after new years but will break out the OR when appropriate.

Cheers

Thanks for your contributions buddy, and happy new year!

BTW was gonna merit that until I noticed you have a nice even 1500. Wink

@Homer, did you make that wallet just for this?
If so if he used a funny passphrase than hit it with a dictionary or rainbow attack.

OK, all caught up now to do the less important shit like respond to my real life messages to find out where I'm gonna be drunk tonight. Cheesy

Yes... if you are referring to the RF side-channel attack it also requires physical access to exploit. Please read my post in the thread above and you will see what I mean.

Note the unconventional cAPITALIZATION!

View Profile
December 31, 2018, 07:56:57 PM

You guys do realize that 99% of normies coming into Bitcoin are going to just buy their coin on sites like Coinbase or Gemini and leave them there?

And with all this back and forth debate about the "right" personal coin security, and the pitfalls if you get it "wrong", who could blame them.  Roll Eyes

This is why, in the end, custodial services which is really just ultra fancy words for "banks" (gasp!) are necessary and always will be.

There is a broad line however, between necessary and required.

Yes!  I created a vanity address 1Go4it... , generated a paper wallet, funded it, waited for the funds to arrive and then posted a screen cap of the wallet.

That's a good hack against the trezor, glitching the CPU at the right instant to drop the security level, then using a valid upgrade to get the keys as they are copied into memory. Still, does it take 1 day, or 3 months to tank the chip?

Could also help some Trezor slob who forgot their pin. Hm.....

Last iteration yielded over 30% gain on my play money.

All closed now, and my heart is light as a feather.

Some call you a slut, but you've always been a good lady to me.
Thank you, bitcoin!
<3

30% ?  For the year's trading activities?
That's just the last iteration. When play money doubles - more or less - I put the excess in the fridge. I made ~220% this year (a doubling, a near doubling, and the final cherry on the cake). It all began as a hedging short when the mammoths spoke to me, then I got carried away.

I felt the need to start doing some end of the year compilations. Here is a look at the first year distributions of WOsMerit's. If you feel there are errors in the chain analysis feel free to post your correction or PM me. Let it be noted these are only WOsM's that I personally issued, if you have issued any the same rules apply as above. Submit for verification and they will be added to the chain asap.
