Any way, Christmas is over, let’s get back to doing what we do best......

Observing walls, checking the price too many times a day & dreaming of the MOON!

  I wish!

Bought dad a 1TB SSD for Christmas to speed up his computer a bit and I made the mistake of using an external rig USB3.0/eSata to mirror the old HDD and using Acronis True Image software.  At first, the computer wouldn't recognize the new drive (#$*% Windows).  I had to go into Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management and enable the drive.  I thought his computer had USB3.0 but as it turns out his computer only had USB2.0 and I didn't bring an extra SATA connector so it took 2 hours for the first 2 hours (yeah, shitty timing algo) and then it really started counting down from 2 hours (although not accurately but I had assumed ~20MB/s so I was prepared to wait)... watched a hockey game, daughter and I went out for a bite to eat - my wife went to see Frozen II with mom... I searched around for some Boxing day deals (there were none) and finally we got down to less than 10 minutes to go! Yay!!  Dad yells in from the other room "Uh oh!  It says "Error reading from sector x".  I looked at it and almost cried but I clicked ignore... another one... ignore another and another etc.  I decide to click "ignore all" - the time remaining goes back to 8 hours.  Angry
Took the computer apart, cut some cable ties to free up a power connector and disconnected the DVD (luckily it was SATA), hooked up the new drive, reconfigured the BIOS, rebooted and ran the software again.  This time the countdown timer started at 30 minutes.  Ten minutes later it went to 38 minutes... I went home.  Dad called about an hour later (it was I nearly 10pm) and said "Another error".   "Click on ignore all", I said.  So I just called him now - he says it's all done; hopefully I will finish up soon.  I'm not too optimistic though.  I seem to have given the gift that keeps on giving (me grief!)

 Merry Christmas!

Hi guys. I hope you all had Merry Christmases! I've been in the Philippines for a little over week, and have not been on here in while.

Aww Christmas with the foreign inlaws. That's probably a bit different for you. Hope its going well!

So effing relieved its over. They've been playing Christmas music everywhere you go since September. I kid you not.

And there's always a picture of Jose Mari Chan ... Christmas starts in the "ber" months and his songs are heard everywhere ... I think he even did some mall appearances just for lulz.

What I like are the ABS-CBN Station IDs .. they had one every year since around 2009, so 11 years of slightly the same, slightly different Christmas themed music. They're all on youtube too, and they don't get really old listening to them as they aren't "standard" Christmas songs.

Get him some sort of online backup plan. Or stick in even a slower HDD as mirrored backup thingy. (or set up a NAS in your place so he can use something like crashplan? not sure what's online these days. basically you're the cloud provider or something.)

Thanks Dabs but my plan was to speed up his computer.  I was sick of the time it was taking to do anything when he asked me to "fix" something on it.  Cloud would really slow it down wouldn't it?  Internet speed is only 25mb/s here.

I’ll take a wallet.dat upgrade.

If you could just replace mine with a new file containing 10,000BTC that’d be great, thanks.

I'm not sure that's the best use for NAS. I use at home a NAS as media server and keep everything backed up onto portable HDDs I only update now and then.
Unless you have a smarter NAS where you do HDD mirroring or even better RAID setup, I think that portable HDDs can be a better backup.

I’ll take a wallet.dat upgrade.

You know, when you initialize a Trezor or Ledger, the generated seed could theoretically belong to someone else's wallet. Just imagine initializing your brand new Trezor and finding it already contains 10,000 BTC. Just imagine the feeling!  Shocked

Of course, the probability of this happening is near-zero, but still non-zero, so one can dream...

Of course, there is still the same nonzero probability of some other lucky guy initializing his own device to the same seed as your newly acquired wealth, so one can have nightmares as well.

The cloud is just for backup. The initial backup would take maybe a few days, but after that it will just upload new files or changes. It won't slow down the computer, but in case the drive dies, you have backup of all the files, pictures, whatever.

An external drive functioning as some sort of automated back up or mirror would also work.

The point or purpose of this is to save you the hassle of trying to do any sort of data recover when the drive dies, as drives do die. I just had one of my 1 TB drives die on me, but I knew it was coming and nothing important was stored there except all the latest movies ... imagine if it had family photos ...

Hey all, any of you guys know what Bruno’s alt is now? He changes accounts like most people change socks. I need to sent him a pm and can’t seem to find an alt more current than April 2019.

Well, I know he's been out of the action for a while due to real life things I'm not sure I should mention, but your best bet is to PM his Phinnaeus Gage account, as that's the one he uses most often.

He can also be reached on Telegram: @BrunoKucinskas

I thought he lost control of the Phinnaeus Gage acct long ago and went to Gleb. I’ll try Telegram. Thx

Time for BitPay to die a painful death.
Additionally, widespread implementation of BIP70 introduces an exposure to increased risk of AML/KYC surveillance and monitoring of on-chain transactions and more effective blacklists.

More like time to ditch imaginary, valueless, digital shitcoins for physical metals because there are no million attack vectors to turn physical metals into a China social credit score system and Jew World Order surveillance grid.  It's not possible to create a decentralized digital shitcoin because transaction validators are always designed to centralize.  And centralized transaction validators + non-fungible tokens = permissioned ledger slavery system by default.

Binance Blockade of Wasabi Wallet Could Point to a Crypto Crack-Up

2020 may see crypto’s most consequential fork yet: A split between regulated exchanges and privacy-focused users.

https://www.coindesk.com/binance-blockade-of-wasabi-wallet-could-point-to-a-crypto-crack-up

If exchanges are EXPLICITLY stating they will only accept non-fungible surveillance tokens, then Bitcoin is obviously a Chinese social credit score, cashless society slavery system where all the goyim cattle are tracked and monitored in real-time by default.  It's a bunch of faggots willingly signing up for the most dystopian, government surveillance grid imaginable solely because they think they might be able to scam others for profit in a pump and dump.  Talk about a deal with the devil.

I don't really trust Wirex so Coinbase will do. Both have high fees at about 2-2.5% though.

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but here in the USA, pro.coinbase.com doesn't charge anything for withdrawals direct to bank account. Of course, converting from crypto to fiat will cost you a fraction of a percent.

My main exchange is Kraken and the fee to withdraw fiat is 9 cents so no issue, however I want to limit my withdrawals that way for t a x reasons.

I bought an amazon.fr card with giftoff and ordered what I needed, smooth going, they must improve their referencing, as I looked at dozen of sites without finding this gem.

edit : the fee is even negative, as I get "points" that will lower the price of my next gift card !

Interdasting. Here in the USA, any conversion of crypto is a taxable event.
