A few thoughts about the current state of affairs (at least in US):

1. I really dislike working from home. Now I am basically attached to a computer. Before it was for fun, now a job. Hate it (but it beats unemployment).
2. Talking about unemployment, my SO got furloughed, getting about 90% of her regular paycheck (if you include additional $600/wk COVID UE). Not bad, but this level will last only 13wk, unless extended, which I doubt-too expensive. After that-TX max, which is $521/wk.
3. Because everything is closed, $$ keep accumulating in the bank account. Will it cause too many $$ chasing too few services when the economy reopens-it is quite possible. I plan to give YUGE tips if and when restaurants reopen.
4. Got $1200/adult check on Wed (as did the most, I gather), doing nothing with it so far, but will send it back to the same place because I would owe something in taxes for 2019. It's funny how it works. It comes and then it goes back to the same exact place, darn it.

Still not buying or selling on the market as I am unable to read it. Maybe will do something soon, though, as some extra cash is burning hands.

EDIT: Pomp opines on current situation vs UBI.

...even if you are sending money to the taxman, you are ahead.  So, I find it a bit irritating to focus on having to pay taxes.

I am talking there about getting a stimulus check(s), then sending the same funds (or a bit more) as an extra tax for 2019 back to the same place.
It would be easier just to have them cancel each other out in "midflight".
Taxes-yea, they are much still smaller than gains (when they come).

Part of the design of this free money thingie-ma-jiggie is to inspire confidence and to accomplish such distribution quickly and with as little red tape as possible.  It is not really very undifferent from how the tax system works in a lot cases, anyhow.  People can choose options that allow them to get paid, and then have to report their income and to perform a variety of calculations to submit what they believe their taxes should be in terms of what they owe or not.  Yeah, maybe in the end, you are correct.  Maybe in the end, there are a lot of folks who are paying in a similar amount as to what they got.. but it still seems like a BIG so what... There is a symbolic aspect to this matter, too.  We are in  a "crisis"... and there is an urgency to making sure people feel that they are getting treated with some benefits during these stressful times.

Probably, in the end, Biodom, we do not really disagree very much because I understand what you are saying, especially after the clarification, and you likely would not disagree to some of the symbolic aspects of people getting quick payments with as little red-tape as possible.

Life returning to normal in Denmark. Kids about to go back to school, cashiers are becoming as rude and dismissive as they always have been. Can't wait to see if we catch up to Sweden within 3 weeks.

WTF. This blows. Will there be no way to spend bitcoins soon? I used that site all the damned time. I had a big Amazon order ready for when the price got back to a decent range.

First BitPay, Expedia, now Purse.

Bitrefill and Cheapair may be the final Bitcoin companies holding up a multi-billion dollar currency.

How to Protect Bitcoin for Your Heirs With the Push of a ‘Dead Man’s Button’

Quote
If the button isn't pressed one week, it is assumed the bitcoin user is dead or incapacitated and it's time for the bitcoin to be passed on, at which point the service automatically dispenses a "secret," which can be used to retrieve the crypto.

https://www.coindesk.com/how-to-protect-bitcoin-for-your-heirs-with-the-push-of-a-dead-mans-button

Here they are talking about LN, but it's okay to think about these things. (it doesn't have to be LN.)

Before my flight from Thailand I had most of my bitcoins on cryptosteel wallets evenly distributed which I carried around all over the world (letters and numbers scrambled in a way that only I knew).

I also created a printed copy, 2 halves of each private key.

I gave them to two of my non-crypto family members that I knew could keep them safe. I told them if I die to combine the papers. They didn't really know what that meant but were fine with locking them away safely for me.

After I made it safely to Panama after Thailand took my house (along with my cryptosteel), I got on a video chat with each of my two family members and had them read off the numbers so I could combine them and secure my bitcoins.

That was my dead man's switch.

Sure, in theory, my family members could have combined the papers and took all of my money...but I trust them with my life so I was not worried about that.
I think you store your private key in such a way is too risky. Your family members think it is not important to them. So they will not take care of your private key carefully. The possibility of losing will be very high. My solution is that you store in highly secure cloud storage applications that specialize in password management such as 1Password, Lastpass. The mechanism of these applications is 02-layer security. So you are assured of the security of your private key. Good luck.

I'm not so sure if Denmark wants to follow Sweden herd immunity tactics, immunity takes years and may not even be possible but I guess someone had to try.

You can’t make that conclusion based on these numbers. What if Sweden has 10x people recovered and immune? Let’s stay in our caves and pretend the virus will just go away by itself. Money is handed out for free anyway, so why bother getting up from the couch watching Netflix all day?

What's the point in trying to find a work if you receive USD 2,000 per month?
Just move to (holy shit, what are these tracking elements in this URL???)Mississippi and live as a  King.

Have you been to Mississippi?

Also 2k is beans in terms of amount to live properly on. Especially if the USD is going to crap. The bigger problem is my salary wull soon have the buying power of a pakastani bricklayer.

Never been to Mississippi, just Googled the cheapest State and picked first result.
I was only meaning that USD 2,000 Could last a month there while probably one week in Bay Area.
And I wouldn't mind too much about inflation.
Before going full Zimbawe you can always spend your own oil, so not importing much inflation due to weakening USD, while rather you would be quite successful exporting your products.

You have a lot more choices than Mississippi or the Bay Area.  The United States has a seriously high cost of living compared to most other countries.  I'm sitting in a hotel penthouse with an entire wall of glass and a pretty good view.   Cost: $15 a night.  "Undisclosed location," as the saying goes, but you may be sure this isn't America.    Three weeks ago I was sitting at home in my place in the U.S.  When I saw countries all around the world closing down, I knew that if I wanted to get out of the U.S. I needed to act fast.  I found a country that was still issuing tourist visas and accepting American travelers.  I got out just in the nick of time.
