I don't know if that's really the main issue. Understanding all the details is a bit complicated, sure, but using BTC securely, not that much. Buy a hardware wallet, put the backup seed in a safe place, be a bit careful... Doing that doesn't do everything a bank does, though, maybe that's the scary part : it doesn't deal with your taxes, it doesn't go to your heirs if you don't organize things, etc.

I guess such people should go to BTC places, in Paris for example there is a "Coinhouse" where they will guide you through it (and of course sell you coins).

JayJuanGee : I'd say what matters most isn't the denomination on the bills (although that might matter if you're hiding money from the taxman) but rather what basis the business is using to price its services/goods. If the basis is fiat, which it will almost always be, then even if you can pay in BTC, there will be favorable and unfavorable times. Of course if the business is also trying to hide some income from the taxman, then some deals could be obtained...

Some of these kinds of comparison charts are very misleading and they end up directing the conversation to some extent based on their selection and their cut-offs in the timeline.. and we cannot see therein an inclusion of the more likely place where we are at - not that we are going to know, with any precision about exactly where we are at  or even where we might be going.  Anyhow they are not including 2016 and what lead up to 2016 - at least where we may well be at the end of 2016 or towards the beginning of 2017 - right before we reach the ATH ... but not quite reaching such ATH yet, not the end of 2017 and we cannot even presume that we are going to break the ATH or where we might go from here.. even though many of us have decent hypotheses on the topic.  

Sure there could be several ways to resolve such bad juxtapositions... even though I am hearing a lot of those bad comparisons - even coming from peeps who should know better...  easy to lapse into such a mistake, but not as easy for someone who has been around BTC MOAR longer.

You can also tell ur lil friend to prepare for more likely scenarios rather than less likely scenarios, but don't be surprised if, from time to time, less likely scenarios end up playing out.. oh sheeeiiit.

It’s funny.  I never hear people say, “overinvested in (dollars|euros|whatever)”.  ;-)

Can one be overinvested in money?  Is that like allocating too much cash in your portfolio?

Firing at random, for I am now something like 20 pages behind WO.  ATH yet?

If all your bills are denominated in bitcoin, then no problem to keep all your money in bitcoin -otherwise, if you have bills in dollars, you might be forced to reallocate some of those 100% bitcoins into dollars in order to make good on those bills.. and you may end up making such conversion at a time that is not of your choosing.

Point taken—as consistent with hard experience, personally.  My remark was tongue-in-cheek, wink-wink ;-), just because I am unavoidably amused at the notion of being “overinvested” in money.

If I walk up to any random business and ask them if they will take bitcoins to settle or to render a good or service, there are pretty low odds that such random business is going to agree to transact with me in bitcoin.. because likely their first response would be, "what's that?"  No one wants to appear dumb, of course, so they might fake it and they may have even heard of it, but they are not set up with an ability to receive bitcoin, an they might be reluctant to set up such ability, especially if they are approached from random peep (namely yours truly) off of the street.

The last time that I tried this, the response was dismissive:  “It may go to zero.”  The business proprietor knew what Bitcoin was.  He thought that it was a stupid idea.

That was when Bitcoin was in the doldrums around $4k–5k for a long time.  Maybe I should try it during a FOMO bull run, rather than a bear market.

I do think that business owners should immediately swap to Tethers^* the exact amount that they project they will need to cover their fiat-denominated Accounts Payable in the short term (approximately the marginal cost to them of the underlying merchant transaction), for the reason that you state to me personally:  Losses and potential insolvency are bad for business, too!

I have considered writing software to support this, but it got kicked down on the priorities list...  It is something that BTCPay Server should consider, to solve their weak point that keeps many businesses stuck on outsourced payment acceptance.  (Many ideas here, will omit for now.)

* Much better than using Shitpay!

Yes, from a financial perspective, you can be overinvested in $, € or whatever kind of asset. It's all just about balancing/hedging a portfolio. YMMV.

With Bitcoin, due to its extraordinarie appreciation over time, it is somewhat easy to become "overinvested"... even if that was intended or not.

I am probably "overinvested" in Bitcoin currently... but YOLO. Again, YMMV.

Yes, I can.  The dragon is overinvested in bitcoin, and therefore he has to shave a bit of the corn off in order to pay some expenses.

Exactly! I put in the rest of my money that I couldn't afford to loose from the 10K dip, raising my average slightly but not too much. The risk reward told me to do so. Best decision ever, but now I need those euros back at a tidy profit
