Greece always had a problem with it’s political leaders corruption (and treason), ever since the golden age/century of Pericles.
In modern times, the nails were put to the coffin in 2001, when we adopted the EUR.
At least we still have an identity, unlike the whole Skopje nation fuck up, that wants to be called “North Macedonia” - for reasons.
