On a happier note it looks like France is building 14 new nukes. I am glad, happiness is a warm nuke.....

bonus with fission plants: you are your own nightlight.. no more hitting your big toe on the end tables and such when going to the loo in the middle of the night

cant wait for fusion plants to come on line. go tokamak!

Yeah, I remember how the science magazines were all excited about fission power in the 80s "in twenty years we will have working fission power plants, we are so close now".
They are still saying the same thing now. And I bet you that's what they are still saying when I die.
I would love to be wrong, but I doubt it.

I also wonder where they get the funding, it costs an arm and a leg to build those reactors and somehow they just magically get the money to build them, decade after decade. Are they funded by aliens trying to push us forward?

Ok, so maybe not decade after decade, but you know what i mean.

No I take that back, they do get their money decade after decade, I'm gonna go get me some coffee now.

I think you might mean fusion power is being promised.
Fission reactors already exist and indeed do provide some of our electricity already and have been doing so for around 3 to 4 decades.

It will be very interesting to see how the delivery of fusion energy might change the whole energy/political landscape.
In theory, this should allow us to have access to very cheap, almost limitless electricity.
Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and removing the stranglehold other countries have on us due to the abundance of natural fossil fuels within those countries.
Also what will happen to Bitcoin when energy becomes cheaper?
Will there be a need for US war machine to protect the petrodollar?
Perhaps the production costs of these new nuclear plants might be too prohibitive to build enough of them to change the reliance on fossil fuels?
Will there be the political will to change the status quo?

Nice one bro. I'm glad you asked our awesome resident hatter to make you one. I knew he would take care of you. He did a fantastic job as usual.
It's definitely an upgrade from that homemade one you were sporting.  (mind you, that's not saying a lot, lol)

Thanks, couldn't be better than the man himself make me one so I asked him, thanks for inspiring me to ask him lol.

Elwar's channels with me have been down for some time.

Not going to force close 'em, 'cuz it's fucking Elwar, but wondering if dude is doing OK.

Did you read my PM about a week ago?
Seems genuine to my eye, but i'd triple check before initiating contact...

Electricity is only one input, production of many things will still be limited by available commodities. It will certainly be a massive game changer though. But fusion is still decades off at best and most likely closer to a century.

I have no knowledge about fusion myself and when my knowledge in a certain area is lacking, the discussions on hackernews are always pretty enlightening. Most there seem to think it is not really a breakthrough at all, more of just a benchmark being hit.

And since you seem to be channeling our good buddy.. why does he not want to hang out with us peeps?

Nice hat for Im Thor by the way.

Thanks for the compliment.  It took a couple of days and a quite a few cups of coffee but I finally came out of my motherf***ing crocodile of a Heather Morgan funk.  Clearly, Jesus loves me the most. Seriously, so nice... so nice...

Apparently it was a bad week for people named Heather or Homer.

You guys finally getting excited about fusion energy? Great!

Heres one thing thats going to happen. The surplus energy will be artificially drained to keep prices up. Why would anyone want to pay mere cents for their monthly electricity bill?
