I was considering this excellent point earlier today. But since this guy actually posted it, I will give him the credit for the realization:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/297o76/regarding_the_auction_remember_this_every_losing/

Like every losing bidder who tried his luck for a sweet deal at $200-$400 a pop will now suddenly want to jump in at $600..  Roll Eyes

Bitcoin is like lottery. If you get the chance to buy the ticket that's gonna win, would you care if you have to buy it for half-price of double price? Why would you give a shit? It's BLOODY WINNING TICKET!

If someone decided to buy bitcoin, it means he've seen the light. Wink It means he believes that bitcoin is THE WINNING TICKET. And if he fail to buy the ticket for half-price, he will buy for full price, for double price, for any price.

One cannot afford to wait for a previously undisclosed Auction event to buy, if it was indeed the bloody winning ticket.. There was enough volume during recent lows to accumulate thousand of coins..

We're going to the moon after the auction. You'll look back at it later and wonder why it wasn't obvious.

BTC was up 50% in a month before the auction was announced. Then insiders stopped buying, dumping began and a couple of days later the auction was announced.

A lot of the people that were buying and/or planning to buy will now be participating in the auction. All the losers will carry on buying on the exchanges as they were doing before the auction was announced.

BTC > $2000 by September.

I think we still have to wait till we cross again 610 mark, before that really not recommending buying.

So... Wait 'till the price goes up to buy? Do you also wait for the price to drop to sell?? Brilliant trading strategies..

very very few investors - even professional ones - are capable of behaving like Warren Buffett, and buy when others are selling and sell when others are buying. Most move with the herd and with conventional wisdom.

let me translate that for ya. we dont plan to dump those 200k coins. as for the rest of the missing coins, we lost them somewhere and they are off the table. you should invest in bitcoin, your investment is safe.

I cant sleep, but I will dump on you again in time. let the pumps begin.

I recently tried to do some trading with little money i earned from signature campaign, and i am really bad with this, i lose money on most of my trades, so i stopped and i am now convinced that my strategy (buy and hold) is the best for me.

Well it still seems to me that conventional wisdom says buy low sell high. Not sell when it's getting higher and buy when it's getting lower. It just seems if you want to invest in something relatively safe you shouldn't even be looking at btc.

i was the same months ago. have since made magnitudes more from just buying promising coins cheap and hodling them for ages. i think its well known that those who just buy and hold end up the winners in the long run(bar the few who are actually good at day trading)

-Never- use an absolute. Wink  All the losers will not be buying on the exchanges.  I'm participating with a group through SecondMarket for the auction.  We semi-low balled our bid.  If we get some coin, great!  If not, that's ok, most of us are happy with what we already own and will probably not be purchasing more.

Downside of their auction is we needed to submit our bid by noon yesterday, non-SecondMarket bids due noon today, price has climbed $15/coin since then so our offer even a bit lower than we anticipated..  I'm guessing we won't get any coins, but hey, no harm no foul for making a bid!

I don't think bids will be made public but I'm willing to reveal our bid after the results on Monday are released so we can get a general idea of what bids were or were not accepted.

I think you are a condescending butthole to assume that the names on that leaked list are dumbasses that want or expect coins to sell for $200. You are a freaking moron if you believe that. Those were heavy hitters that could buy and sell you a 100 times over. They don't waste their time "hoping" for a deal. And they don't bid on bitcoin unless they want it.

I am delirious to believe bidders will make low ball offers! Yes those buyers are patient enough not to buy on exchange at 500-600,  buying coins were always possible before that auction!
You are most certainly long and probably leveraged, maybe in pain due to high swap cost and recent decline, thus your harsh attitude. A long squeeze is highly due  Grin

You don't realize that 90% can be low ballers, we need only one guy to have high bids.  Wink Wink

Exactly, my strategy was to keep btc, to sell after a pump and rebuy after the following dump. But in reality, every time, i was trying to catch a falling knife.

AFAIK bids need to be submitted by 6pm EST today. Price is going up today, I assume someone is bidding above the current market price (all it takes is one bid). If that is the case, it makes sense that the price is going up today whilst the auction is underway.
