As a distributed clearinghouse with many actors within its own closed network, Ripple works great, as long as XRP stays cheap enough.
Not wishing to turn this into a Ripple thread, but it works great until someone somewhere fails and the bag holders realise they are bag holders (which can be through no fault of their own). So does any other clearinghouse system, when one of the actors fails. Failure in Ripple does indeed ripple across the peers who trust the failed entity. It just requires less manual intervention and automates many tasks. E.g. one liquidator can buy debt from the failed entity for cents on the dollar using the distributed exchange feature. NB I am not a Ripple fan because I detest the shady way the founders own most of the XRPs and how they manipulate the market. My argument is that their solution works great in a closed network of gateways and does a better job at moving debt across trusted parties than SWIFT does.

My friend, who is not part of the BTC world, sent me a message half an hour ago: "PayPal supports BTC". Few seconds after that I realized that we will rally up from here, because this news got media attention, ordinary non-bitcoin people heard about it.

One Little Weird Trick To Get Rich Quick ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Yeah sounds like a thing for dumbasses for sure but I recognise the voice, it's Chris Dunn ( https://www.youtube.com/user/chrisdunntv) and what he said is true (check his bitcoin videos, check the dates). He predicted all the major moves of BTC since $1200 (yes, all the shorting too) and the fall of MtGox before they happened (yes I followed him since the beginning). No kidding. Check his old videos and their dates in his account for yourself. Regardless, I'm not sure the bear market is over just yet like adam suggests.

This makes sense as Paypal is basically a processor. By supporting btc they are letting people use as a debit collateral or credit against their paypal accounts. But they are still making fees by the actual paypal transactions like a regular cc.

http://online.wsj.com/articles/wal-mart-plans-to-begin-offering-checking-accounts-1411575699 Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to begin offering checking accounts by the end of next month that doesn't charge overdraft fees, in contrast to the independent banks currently housed within the retail giant.
The world's largest retailer and partner Green Dot Corp. are planning a national rollout of the checking account service that will be called GoBank. Green Dot, through its Green Dot Bank, is big provider of prepaid debit cards—including Wal-Mart's.
In addition to touting lower costs, the GoBank mobile checking service will provide access for customers that may not typically have access to banks. GoBank won't use credit scores in determining eligibility, but it instead plans to use its own proprietary underwriting methods to allow just about any customer that passes ID verification to open an account.
The accounts won't have a minimum balance requirement or overdraft fees. A monthly membership fee of $8.95 will be waived for qualified customers with direct deposits of at least $500 a month. The accounts will include mobile features such as the ability to instantly send money via email or texting and come with a linked MasterCard Inc. debit card.
Green Dot shares got a boost from the news, rising as much as 15% Wednesday.
Meanwhile, customers of independent banks located within Wal-Mart's retail outlets are among America's highest payers of bank fees—a large chunk of which come from overdraft charges. Some of the leading banks at Wal-Mart also pitch accounts to people who otherwise might not have access to banks, including those with bad credit histories.
Several years ago, Wal-Mart itself had aimed to get into the banking business. The retailer dropped a bid for its own banking charter in 2007.
Game over, bitcoin is useless now.
